More I Love Lucy…

I love the holidays. All the kids are home, and it’s usually snowing outside and warm inside from the baking of cookies – or in my case, the burning of the cookies…

A few years ago when this happened, our new fire alarm went off and I couldn’t figure out how to turn it off. We have really high ceilings and there was no way to reach the smoke detector. A neighbor called the police, and a sheriff came to the door. He looked a little rumpled and a lot overworked, but he smiled when he saw the burnt cookies.

“My wife does that a lot,” he said with obvious warmth and love.

It reminded me that one of my favorite couples–sexy, slightly geeky genius Spence and fiesty, sweet Colbie from my book Chasing Christmas Eve — would be celebrating this holiday too, and chances were that Colbie was doing something to both irritate Spence and yet turn him on at the same time. 🙂

  1. The oven in the apartment where I live burns really hot! It is hard to bake cookies without them being too brown!! It is a guessing game as to what temperature to set the oven. Yes, I have set off the smoke alarm, more than once!! I have to “fan” the smoke alarm so it shuts off!! It helps to turn on the fan above the stove so the smoke alarm doesn’t go off!!!!! 🙂

  2. I love how you turn incidents in you real life into scenes in your books and always with a hint of humor.

  3. Live that story with Spence and Colbie. Waiting for the next one. I set the timer and am doing something else and forget it! Burnt cookies are just love a little browned. ! Have a great week.

  4. I saw the Sawyer comment, too, but you were thinkin’ Sheriff, right? 🙂 But yeah, Spence and Colbie would definitely get distracted… Besides, couldn’t you see Sawyer showing up at their door??? Although Lucky Harbor might be a bit of a drive…

  5. I caught my kitchen on fire several years ago and did $8500 in damage frying bacon .I left it just for a second cause the washer was making a noise. When I got back the flames was in the cabinets. The smoke alarm was blaring .I grabbed the phone ran out and called 911 .The fire dept didn’t get there very fast. Now my husband does most of the cooking but If I do I sit right with it..Lol So we don’t burn the cookies

  6. LOL yes that was my what the …. thought.
    Colbie and Sawyer?

Wouldn’t Chloe and Spence have something to say about that…

  7. I do that way too many times. We also have vaulted ceilings so we can’t reach the smoke alarm. So I just open all the windows and do a freeze out!!
