Today’s adventure was getting home, and believe me, it was an adventure. I got up at 5:30 NY time (2:30 my time!!) and grabbed a cab. Got on an airplane in La Guardia and then, half an hour later, learned we were not going to Denver and then connecting to Reno as planned because SNOW had grounded Denver.

Snow. The current bane of my existence.

We landed in Chicago instead. So there I was, stuck with thousands of others who couldn’t get west. Not only were flights grounded, but the ones that weren’t were oversold. The airlines weren’t answering their 800 numbers (smart, actually, LOL, given how pissed we all were) People were going postal in every corner so it’s a good thing they don’t let you travel with weapons anymore. I waited in a three hour customer service line only to be told NO FLIGHTS west AT ALL. So I did the sensible, grown up thing. I called my husband and burst into tears. He was quiet a moment. “I’m guessing you actually really want to come home,” he finally said.

Uh…duh.

Well, he’d read my blog over the past few days, LOL, and thought maybe I was going to run away and stay in NY. Nope, sorry, this mountain girl was READY TO COME HOME RIGHT NOW RIGHT THIS VERY MINUTE. Thank you very much.

Now here’s why I love my husband despite the fact that never rinses his milk glass after eating his three cases of Girl Scout cookies, and pretends not to hear me when there’s a game on… Even though it was dawn in California, he called a friend who works at an airline (Julie I’ll love you forever) woke her up, got me on a flight, talked me out of the hysterics in the middle of the Chicago airport, and stayed with me on the line as I ran the three miles to the right terminal and gate. I was off to San Francisco, then yet ANOTHER FRIGGING FLIGHT to Reno, and then the hour drive home.

Stick a fork in me, I’m done.

Now I’m home (after EIGHTEEN HOURS of travel), and the kids are all over me, and I am MUCH HAPPIER though exhausted. New York was exciting and wonderful, but there’s no place like home, there’s no place like home, there’s no place like home…

So I’m with Jo and she decides we must go to the Museum. Sure, sounds good, as long as it involves lunch. Then she says it’s the Museum Of Sex. Hey, even better. They have a gift shop that I pretty much giggled all the way through with an entire wall of … toys, one called a rabbit, another called a bull. Don’t ask. And inside the exhibit …!!!!!!! Let’s just say I couldn’t POSSIBLY put up the pics I took. LOL. There were all sorts of contraptions involving leathers and whips and chains oh my. Jo Leigh insisted on trying each and every one.

Kiddin’.

OH! And here’s proof that in some parts of the world, spring exists! My husband doesn’t believe it as they got six inches of snow last night, so honey this one is for you.

I’m going home tomorrow and when I get there, I’ll put up the last of my New York pics, the one I took in the village and of Park Ave!!!

Now tell me what’s going on, what have I missed in the world?

Here is me and new NBC president Judy Rose. Okay so she’s not president of NBC but my good friend and she works there and she’s VERY important. Just don’t ask me what she really does because then I’d have to kill you. We went playing on all the NBC sets today. And below is me on the Conan O’Brien set!!! We had so much fun …

After this we went to the SNL set and omg, I had the BEST time there. Guests this week are Cameron Diaz and Green Day. I never wanted to leave but they finally kicked me out because I tripped over a cord and nearly tumbled a camera down. Okay they didn’t kick me out, but they wanted to. Only me …

Tune in tomorrow for the story of Jo Leigh and me going to the Museum of Sex. I have pics …

So I was on my way to meet my agent for lunch. I left the quiet of the hotel and stepped into the madness that is Times Square at lunch hour. I hailed a cab (this took timid me a good half an hour, LOL). I told him Madison and 26th and he zipped into traffic at approximately the speed of light, and I nearly kissed the glass partisan between us. Two minutes later we were stuck in grid lock traffic and this is where my cabbie driver’s true talent came out.

He could swear in three different languages.

After twenty minutes, I realized I might miss my appointment so I knocked politely on the glass. He ignored me. I tried again. “Um, sir, hello? Are we close?”

He shot me a glare. “Traffic.”

Gee, really? “I’m asking if we’re close enough that I could just walk.”

He said, “you. Walk.” And whipped to the side of the street. Now keep in mind, I have NO idea where I am. Before I could mention that, he was gone. GONE. Sigh. So I had to whip out my cell phone and call my agent’s assistant and admit that I, the stupid writer, was lost in Manhattan somewhere on my way to their office.

Motto. Don’t talk to the cab drivers . . .

I woke up this morning and there was a face right in mine. My youngest daughter’s. I jumped and screeched in surprise, and then she jumped and started crying because I’d scared her, LOL. So of course we let her in the bed. Then my middle came trodding into the room because she sleeps with her sister and got lonely. The bed was full at this point. Hell, it was full before they’d even shown up. By the time the dog got on board, I had no pillow, a corner of a blanket, and was wide awake. I’d say I miss my sleep, I miss my space, but the truth is, I think I like it this way. My oldest is too old now to climb into bed with us, and I miss that so much. Silly, isn’t it? I mean she’s right here in the house, all grown up and making her presence known with every haughty, teenage, sullen glance, and still, I miss her. LOL. Crazy mom …

Okay I’m off to NY, but I’ll check in every night so pretty please keep posting!! And because I love to hear your stories, here’s my question for the day:

In my last post we talked about fantasy jobs, and that was so much fun I want to know your fantasy man. Any man on the planet … who would it be? I had a helluva time deciding this one, I’ve got to say. But I’m going to stick with an old time favorite, and I have no real reason for this other than I just love him. Matt Damon. Yours?
