I Love Lucy Tuesday

FullSizeRender 3Happy August 1, and by that I mean WHERE IS THE SUMMER GOING?????

Anyway, Frat Boy and I were on our morning hike through the woods, and when I say woods, you all know by now I mean some pretty seriously isolated woods in the Northern California Sierras. I was moving along at a good clip because there’ve been a lot of bears and coyotes this year.

Well, that and the fact that I have consumed too many cookies lately and I’m not going to fit into my writer conference clothes for NYC in a few weeks. But I digress.

As we’re moving along, I’m happily wailing at the top of my lungs to Uptown Funk when Frat Boy goes off trail, stands at the bottom of a huge, old tree and barks. Huh. I go to stand next to him, tip my head back to peer two hundred and fifty feet up to the top of the tree, and then BAM. The next thing I know I’m sitting on my ass in the dirt, my head spinning.

A squirrel had beaned me with a pinecone.

Still dizzy, I call Alpha Man. “You’re not going to believe this.”

“Does it require stitches or a cast?”

To be fair, he has good reason to ask me such a question. “No.”

“The bank account thanks you.”

Honest to God, he’s so sweet and sensitive and loving it boggles the mind. Anyway, so now I have to add squirrels to my list of rabid creatures to avoid…

  1. Well, thank goodness it was only a squirrel and a pinecone. Good grief. I don’t know how you do it.

That’s for the laugh. Sorry you got hurt but you know it’s funny.

Good luck with getting rid of those cookie calories.

  2. Squirrels are vicious little monsters so do be careful out there. They are so destructive – glad you are ok.

  3. I live in the wood, too, and watch the fat squirrels run around all day long from afar – and by afar I mean from my window. This is why I don’t walk in the woods. Those little suckers think they OWN it and I’m a trespasser.

  4. Lol this reminds me of the book “At least in the city someone can hear me scream ” by Wade Rouse.
The opening lines are “There’s a racoon on my head. And I don’t particularly look good in hats. Especially when they are moving.”

May that NEVER happen to you!!
    Good luck with the hiking.

  5. I’m sorry that happened to you! I had it happen to me when I was sitting at my pool! I was like what the “f”!! I wasn’t even under the tree. Now if I hear pine cones falling I sit under the umbrella!!

  6. OMG, I don’t think I could make it through the week without your humor, hot men and daily anecdotes! My apologies but you have me LOL at my desk at work. People think I’m crazy! I think your husband and mine are related! OMG, I still cannot stop laughing…..

  7. We have squirrels running amok in our property and when I go on to the back deck you can be sure they are trying to get into the bird feeders and then flying into the trees. But I at least they make a racket and you can duck before they loosen something from the trees. The very least Frat boy could have done was give you a warning….

  8. You lead such an interesting life and I want to thank you for sharing all of your funny happenings. I always know I am going to get a good laugh to start my day.

  9. He! He! There is a wooded area near my home and I have encountered squirrels, rutting deer(), dogs and the occasional fox. Must stay alert thru those woods!

  10. We were camping in the wilds of the southern Sierra and were awakened by our tent getting bombed by squirrels throwing pine cones. Our tent was not under a tree, so they had to be throwing the cones.

  11. I just love your I Love Lucy moments! Thanks for sharing the laughter :yahoo:

  12. God I love you an alpha man. You make me laugh in the morning it just makes my day. Looking forward to tomorrows hunk day picture. Your writing inspiration is always awesomely yummy! Have a great squirrels free day!

  13. I hate to ask this but…hasn’t this happened to you before??? Sorry! Glad you and Frat Boy are okay. Be careful!! And yeah. Good luck with the getting rid of the cookie calorie thing. Wishing you all the best there.

  14. Happy to hear you and Frat Boy are okay. Squirrels can be more destructive than mice if they get in the house.

  15. Loathe the little buggers! Nothing but destroyers of all they can get there creepy little paws on, including baby birds! Presently waging war w one trying to set up house in my attic! :(
Glad you survived but Alpha Man better be careful…the bugger may turn on him!

  16. First of all, I am happy that you are ok. Squirrels can be nasty & not only in the woods. There are lots of trees in our town so we have lots of squirrels all over. I see them often when I am out for a walk. So far none have done more than scold me. Your description of getting “beaned” by a squirrel is very funny. Thanks for the laugh!!

  17. If you get close enough to look at their evil little faces, they’re pretty scary. Glad you weren’t hurt too badly!

  18. Hopefully, you realize that the squirrels were aiming at frat boy and you just happened to be in the way. I’m so sorry it happened to you and hope a few cookies helped you feel better!!

  19. you and your adventures!!!!!!! haha!!! :yahoo:  :-o
