Tuesday’s Tidbits

Update:
Winners were randomly drawn (and should email me with their choice of Nook or Kindle): Mari, Joyce, Ana, Kristen, Julie … and the cookies go to Catherine. Thanks for playing!!!

Original Post:
I love holiday movies, always have. From A Christmas Carol to A Charlie Brown Christmas, I’ve seen them all, melted over them all, and probably cried buckets over them all as well. A recent favorite is The Holiday with Jude Law. I actually rented that one last year with a bit of an attitude because Harry Potter’s latest was sold out. I was in the mood for Hogwarts and adventure, not a sappy romance (funny considering I write them…)

But I was transfixed. There was nothing sappy about it at all. It was a wonderful, deep, warm, funny, sexy romance. In fact, there were two romances. And I melted. And yes, I also cried. In a very good way.

How about you? Do you have a favorite holiday movie? Or how about a holiday book? Comment here today and I’ll be drawing names. Five of you will be gifted with my upcoming holiday novella UNDER THE MISTLETOE, and one of you will win a box of my favorite (at the moment) cookies.

  1. My favourite holiday movie which I watch EVERY Christmas since it came out is National Lampoons Christmas Vacation. Love it :)

  2. You know what I adore most about The Holiday? The sweaters. Saw it in the theaters when I lived in Arizona — where I wore my sweaters for perhaps 47 minutes the entire winter. I have sweater lust for Kate and Cameron’s clothes. I have sweater Luuuuuv for Jude Law in that Blue sweater that matches his eyes.

Favorite holiday movie? Muppet Christmas Carol.

  3. I love Miracle on 34th Street the original. I also love The movie you mentioned. I also love Ron Howard’s version of The Grinch.

  4. My favorite holiday movies are Christmas in Connecticut (the original with Barbara Stanwyck) and…ok, honestly, Christmas Eve on Sesame Street. I loved it SO MUCH as a little kid, and now I watch it with my four-year-old and feel like it’s really Christmas all over again. The things that make a big impression on us as toddlers can REALLY last! ;)

  5. oh i also adore The Holiday!
but my all time fave is Miracle on 34th street… just gives me fuzzies all the time

  6. I watch the Family Stone at Christmas. Love that movie.

  7. I also really enjoyed The Holiday. It’s a great feel good movie. My favorite Christmas movie is It’s a Wonderful Life. I never get tired of seeing it.

  8. I love WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING. Such a great holiday movie. The chemistry between Sandy Bullock and Bill Pulhum is electric. The movie is a funny, sweet, romantic feel good movie–there is nothing better.

  9. My favorite holiday cartoon is How the Grinch Stole Christmas. I’ve always loved it :) after Thanksgiving, I tend to read romance centered around Christmas. There’s something just heartwarming about reading about love at Christmas. I usually watch most of the 25 days of Christmas on ABC family and whatever cheesy movies are on lifetime. Can’t help myself.

  10. A Charlie Brown Christmas

  11. Undercover Holiday with Tyne Daly and The Susan Lucci version of scrooge, called Ebby.

  12. I love It’s a Wonderful Life and A Charlie Brown Christmas. I have both on DVD, yet watch them on TV every year. I’m excited because Charlie comes on twice this year! Yes, I’ll watch it both times.

  13. We watch White Christmas every year. I also watch Holiday Inn, Meet Me In St. Louis, It’s a Wonderful Life, and Holiday Affair. I love all the old Christmas movies. What’s not to like about Robert Mitchum, James Stewart, Judy Garland, Bing Crosby? My all time favorit movie is Meet Me In St. Louis.

  14. While You Were Sleeping is my favorite. I love that movie and try to watch it every year at Christmas.

  15. My favorite Christmas movie would have to be ” The Christmas Shoes” It made me cry, But it was one of the sweetest movies I have ever watched. I also enjoyed Miracle on 34th Street. That one was cute as hell too!
Well I hope you have a Great Thanksgiving!

  16. I really like “A Muppet Family Christmas”. We bought the DVD since it’s not shown on TV anymore. It’s classic Muppets – songs, humor, sweet message. And it includes the Muppets from Sesame Street and Fraggle Rock in it…with a Jim Henson cameo. My husband and daughter and I love watching it every year.

  17. My favorite is White Christmas. I also love all the sappy holiday movies they show on The Hallmark Network.

  18. My dad wants to watch Love Actually every year at Christmas. It’s actually become a bit of a contest, how long can we avoid being subjected to it? Last year I had the flu at Christmas and could only lie on my parents’ couch and moan, so Dad took this as an excuse to pop it in the DVD player and watch it. My mom thanked me for my sacrifice.

  19. I love all of the Santa Claus movies with Tim Allen. And we watch National Lampoons Christmas Vacation several times during the holidays!!!

  20. How the Grinch stole Christmas. Charlie Brown is a must see too.

  21. I love Will Farrel in ELF!

  22. I love holiday romances, but I have to admit, I don’t have any favorites. Every year it seems like there is a new crop to choose from.

  23. Holiday Inn as the oldie and Love Actually as the newie!

  24. elf, white christmas, the holiday,

  25. I dont have a favorite movie nor do I have a favorite book. I like to read any book that has the concept of Christmas in it!! That’s means I’ll be nose deep in Under the Mistletoe!!! ;-)

  30. Love so many..am addicted to seeing all the cheesy Hallmark Xmas movies on tv with thier “countdown to Christmas”. The Holiday made me cry, I was surprised that I liked it, like you it was a reluctant viewing but glad I did! This time of year I’ll watch anything xmas related :)

  31. Love Actually, hands down. So much romance!

  32. I think it’s more of a Halloween movie, but I adore ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’. Also love the classic holiday cartoons, like Rudolph, Grinch, Frosty, etc. Love Christmas time!

  33. I probably would have chosen The Holiday as well – it’s such a GOOD movie. I loved how there were two separate stories being told, yet they weaved together so perfectly.

For the purpose of the contest, I’ll choose another one though, ha! Sleepless in Seattle :) I know the movie starts out at Christmas time and moves into Valentines Day… but there is something magical about the little boy calling in a radio station asking for a Christmas wish for his lonely father. It puts a smile on my face every time I watch it!

  34. I love the classic cartoons for holidays, from Frosty to Rudolph to Charlie Brown. Love them all! I know it isn’t technically a Christmas movie, but “Diehard” is one of my favorites to watch

  43. i love the Mrs. Miracle movies on hallmark channel…. ive read all the books and seen the movies they are the cutest:)

  44. While You Were Sleeping is my favorite Christmas movie.

  45. I have to say the Christmas Story. I love how determined the boy is to get his one and only present that he wants and sets out to convince everyone that it was the perfect present for him. A Red Ryder Carbine Action 200-Shot, Range Model Air Rifle, but many obstacles stand in the way of his dream because every adult that he confronts keeps telling him he’ll shoot his eye out.

  47. The Holiday is actually one of my favorites. That and Love Actually. Those two movies together make everything better. As far as Christmas books, I’m not sure I really have any (although funnily enough, I connect Harry Potter books with Christmas). Lisa Kleypas’ Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor is a good one. Can’t wait to read Under the Mistletoe!

  71. My absolute favorite holiday movie of all time is a tie between Mickey’s Christmas Carol and the original Miracle on 34th Street. I also love The Holiday and Love Actually.

  72. The Christmas Card. I watch it at least 5 times every year. It’s about a service man who receives a post card in a Christmas package sent to him overseas. The next year when he’s gets out he goes to the small town to visit and falls in love with the woman who sent him the postcard…sniff…sniff. I truly love this movie.

  73. OMG! I forgot about The Holiday! I will be watching that one again this weekend.
