Flying the friendly skies
August 17, 2012 | Filed under: Stuff
So Youngest and I are in San Diego. It’s complicated, but let’s just say I only have one week left before I drop her off at her dorm, sniff sniff. ANYWAY, I’ve been flying all year here and there. So has Youngest. We are NOT new at the flying game. And yet still, we ended up in the corner of shame at security, our stuff opened and spread out for the viewing pleasure of everyone at the airport because we forgot to put our liquids in a clear bag.
Well, let’s be clear. I didn’t forget.
Youngest did.
And she dragged me down with her …
Anyway, after being searched, I’m now dating the TSA agent who felt me up, she’s a very lovely fifty-ish woman with not a big sense of humor but we’re working on it.
The good news? It was worth it.

Oh, and before you go? Where’s your favorite place to go visit?

Yeah, I believe I’ve been engaged twice over the past few years to a few TSA agents. Traveling is becoming less and less fun, but for a secluded beach with a hot hunk,a pink-hued cottage on a private island I’d kiss the damn agent.

My favorite place to visit is Seabright Beach in Santa Cruz. I went there last weekend. Luckily I only live less than an hour from there. It’s a good escape and very peaceful. Not a lot of people go there or even know where it is.

Hands down Grayton Beach on the Florida Gulf Coast! Fun and eclectic. Crystal clear water. Sugar sand beach. Seaside and Water Color resorts nearby. You can’t beat it.

I hear that! The last time I flew I was randomly chosen for the hand swab. The TSA agent came over, swabbed my hands and ran it through the machine and guess what! The test came back positive for explosives.
They had me step to the side until a female TSA agent came over, and in the meantime they had to go through my bag out in the open because I forgot to remove my liquids as well.
While I was waiting, another person was randomly hand swabbed and she tested positive too! And she was carrying an infant. They retested her and used another testing machine (apparently the machine they used with my swab was having an issued and EVERY ONE was testing positive.
After the lovely TSA pat down, I was finally free to go the one thing I desperately needed. The potty

La Push. The beaches are amazing. I was going there with my mom well before Twilight ever happened. Not sure I want to go back now it’s been overtaken by mobs of Twilight fans.
My other favorite place to visit is home, with all the other people gone. LOL. What can I say? I’m an introvert.

Good luck with the empty nest. I have been teenage free for 1 week…the most boring week of my life. All those times the drove me insane and I wished for an empty house, now that its here I’m having a hard time getting used to it . I may have to go find a part time job to keep me busy. My Favorite place is a little patch of beach along the Hoh River(Washington Pacific Coast).

Haha. Well, I wish you and her (new girlfriend) the best of luck. It won’t take long at all for your great sense of humor to wear off on her, I’m sure! I had the pleasure of being the lucky winner of a frisk also. Why can’t the people doing the frisking look like Sawyer? Just a question? Have fun and enjoy!
My favorite place to visit? Savannah, Georgia. I’m heading there this weekend for a few days. I can’t wait, and also can’t wait until its not a visitning place, but my home!

If it is just a day get away the northern California coast. It is interesting, beautiful & fun to explore. I always take tons of pictures as I’ve turned into such an amateur photographer!! Very amateur!!
If I can travel away from home last year I saw the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Az., Bryce & Zion National Parks. Would love to go to all those places again. There are many other places I would love to see which means I cannot pick a favorite!!
Have fun in San Diego. Youngest in college!! Oh my!
Where did the time go?
Everyone have a great weekend.

My little place of heaven on earth is anywhere in Newfoundland. I don’t care where on the island I go, as long as my feet are on the ground there, im’m thrilled.

I love the beaches of the Caribbean and the Bahamas, where I used to work for Club Med. My favorite city in the world is Paris; in the US it is New Orleans. I live in CA now and my favorite places here are the Lake Tahoe area and Napa. I’ve always wanted to travel the corridor between Charleston and Savannah, including Hilton Head Island and Beaufort. I’d also like to venture to Nantucket and Seattle/San Juan Islands/Vancouver. Also Jackson Hole, WY. More on my “someday” list include Alaska, Tahiti, Australia, New Zealand and Quebec.

Of beachy places to go that are easy to get to, and that I’ve actually been to, I’d have to say Daytona Beach. (West coast beaches are too far away.) As long as it’s not spring break or bike week or the height of Nascar, it’s a really nice place to visit, the waves are relatively gentle, and nobody bugs you. And if you want to go to the “cool” stuff in Orlando, it’s only about an hour’s drive. (Staying in Orlando will cost you 3x as much.)
Next week, we’re going to Ocean City, MD, with my folks, so that’s where we’re getting our beach fix this year. It’s okay, but it’s not quite like Daytona.

Fort Bragg, CA. My grandparents were planning to retire there, unfortunately my grandfather passed away before they could. But they bought 10 acres in the forest and we camp there and go to the beaches, shopping in Mendocino, etc. We love it there!

My best friend just moved to the San Diego area from Minnesota after retiring from teaching. She wanted/needed to close to where her daughter was living. It is so beautiful there. I hope to visit someday in the near future. Good luck being an empty nester, or are you like me still having adult children living at home?

Welcome to San Diego, Jill and Youngest! While I love it here (we’ve been here for 3 years now), my favorite place is the anywhere in the mountains! And having snow just makes it perfect. Maybe we should trade places when you’re tired of the snow and I’m tired of the beach….
Have a great time while you’re here.

Ha, another San Diegan here! Love it here because we have almost perfect weather every time. We’ve got the ocean, the desert, and the mountains all in driving distance. So many awesome places to visit here in San Diego, so many things to do. Love hanging out at Seaport Village and Balboa Park, Torrey Pines and La Jolla, Del Mar and Coronado beaches among many places.

I love going to my Aunt’s house, where my mother also lives. They have a huge house with a wrap-around porch. It’s great in the morning to sit outside, sipping coffee and enjoying their company.

It seems as though I frequently get “randomly selected” for additional security searches. Strangely enough I think it ends up annoying the TSA agents more than me. It never fails that I am asked to completely empty out the entire contents of my carry-on, purse, and camera bag. Do they fail to notice that I am a woman and therefore the contents of these bags are exhaustive? They frequently stand there looking impatient with me and saying, “are you done yet?” I would love to remind them that THEY are the ones who put me in the situation of having to empty out the contents, but instead I just smile sweetly and say, “Not quite yet.” Then comes the extra pat down, the wand and finally the decision that although I may over-pack I am indeed not a threat to security of any nation and I am sent on my way.
It’s hard to choose just one favourite destination, so instead I’ll list my top 5 favourite places to travel to:
Posted on August 27th, 2012 at 7:07 am1) Phoenix/Scottsdale, Arizona
2) Switzerland
3) Koh Samui, Thailand
4) Derby, England
5) Italy
