Four years in a blink of an eye

June 19, 2012 | Filed under: Stuff

Oldest, exactly four years ago, landing at UCLA as a high school grad…

And here she is four years later, diploma in hand.

She’s been offered a big, shiny, brand new big-girl job in San Francisco, and we couldn’t be more proud of her. She’ll be coming home from L.A. for a few weeks before moving to SF. Looking so forward to that! All I have to do is figure out a way to tell her that I’ve stolen all her cute shoes and clothes that she left, and that we’ve been using her bedroom as a den … Maybe she won’t notice.

  1. Heather Dearly says:

    Congrats to your daughter!

Looks like from above that having bears raid your trash at home made her brave. ;-)

  2. trish c says:

Wow! That went by fast! I can’t believe it’s been 4 years. Congratulations Oldest! Good luck with your new job in SF.

  3. Pat L. says:

Congrats on the new job. That is such a kudo with the job market the way it is.

Time does fly by so fast. It just seems like you were crying when she first went away. How far is SF from you?

What type of job did she get? I don’t recall what her major was.

  4. mary g says:

    How exciting! Congrats to oldest.

  5. Sue B says:

A diploma and a job too! Fabulous! Congrats to her, you and Alpha Man! I wouldn’t worry about the shoes, she’ll need new ones anyway. As for the room? Well…..good luck with that.

  6. MaryAnne says:

Wow and congrats Oldest…a real live job!!! They are so hard to find nowadays – hold on with both hands and don’t let go (sucking up to the boss is allowed) ;-)

  7. Jeanine says:

  12. Paula says:

Congratulations to Oldest! And you! She might need the cute clothes and shoes in SF… but she probably won’t mind shopping for more, and there isn’t much better shopping than the city. ;-)

  13. Kathleen O says:

Congrats to your daughter. I wish her well in new career. It is amazing where the time goes. My niece has been out of school not four years and working and living on her own. They are not little girls anymore… sigh…

  14. Kathleen O says:

Whoops… that should have said “out of school now for four years… typo’s get me everytime.

  15. Donna M says:

 Congratulations to Oldest & to you & Alpha Man. That is such a big milestone in your lives. Lucky girl, woman I mean, to have a job upon graduation. You know we want details. San Francisco is a delightful city. I’m only 70 miles from there.

I remember wanting to go to UCLA soooo bad. My dad had NO INTENTION of actually allowing me to leave Texas. But they let me visit UCLA anyway.

Congrats to Oldest! How fab that she has a job upon graduating–it seems so difficult these days. I’m certain it’ll be great to have all the family together again, & wonderful that she’ll live within a couple hours for trips home to sleep in the “den”. I think she’ll forgive you for the clothes that now have become yours.

Am looking forward to seeing you at the Literacy Signing in July. Am planning to make the drive.
