How to amuse yourself

February 10, 2012 | Filed under: Stuff

There’s something about going snow shoeing on fresh powder surrounded by a million acres of powdery forestland that appeals to me. Odd, for a misplaced Los Angeles girl who went years and years without even seeing snow, I know.

But after a fast paced city life, where everything moves at morphed speed, it’s really amazing to get out into the wild open space where the only thing moving is the wild life.

Well, and me, especially once I see a coyote or bear. Yep, I can really move under those conditions.

I dragged Youngest with me the other day. She isn’t fond of snowshoes. Or rather, not fond of trying to get up once you fall . . . And once she sees these pics, she’s not going to be fond of me.

Going down . . .

Staying down . . .

Struggling in tune to my manic laughter . . .

Almost got it . . .

This is where I need to tell you that it truly is really hard to get up once you’re down. But it’s really fun to watch . . .

Yeah. Maybe if you ever come visit, you don’t want to go snow shoeing with me . . .

I’ve always wanted to try snow shoeing but not so much now. lol Plus here in MI we don’t have any snow. Been a odd winter.

I think your daughter needs to hide your camera when you go out lol

  2. Connie Wilson says:

OMG I would be laughing so hard! Witnessing people falling is so funny, family falling is the funniest! I’m the person that can hardly help because I cant control my laughing. I fall more than I should admit and most of the time I cant get up because I’m too busy laughing at myself.

  3. Judy F says:

Looks like the dogs were having fun too

  4. Liza says:

I’m not a snow girl at all. Last year we had so much snow, for us anyway, it drove me crazy. Have to agree with Judy, looks like the dogs were having fun.

  5. Steffi K says:

i like snow but wouldn’t want it practically year round. Other than that Alpha man needs to confiscate your camera when you go out

  6. ev says:

Last year I broke down and bought some snow shoes and poles- esp after the heavy snowfall we had and I had to trek out in the backyard to rescue Dachshunds. this year we have no snow. Yet anyway. So I haven’t even had them out-I think they are still in the storage unit. I will have to go get them in hopes we have snow.

At least there won’t be anyone around to take pictures when I fall. Or help me up either.

  7. Odie S says:

One of the many perks of parenthood – broadcasting their embarassing (and hilarious) moments!

  8. Maggie says:

Yeah, don’t like snow either, but did grow up with a lot of snow around. Looks like fun, but too cold for me. Looks like the dogs are trying to help but just can’t figure out how to do that little deed. Gotta love it all. Enjoy them while you have them!

  9. cheryl c. says:

I am such a klutz that I know I would spend much of my time flat in the snow.

  10. Jen says:

Oh, Jill! This is great. ALthough, I have to admit, at first, I thought these were pictures of you….

  11. Kathleen O'Donnell says:

Snowshoeing has never been at the top of my list… But thanks for the warning should I ever visit..LOL. I think I will visit in the summer..

  12. Donna M says:

Those pictures brought a smile to my face. Shhhh, don’t tell Youngest. Be sure to save them until she has teens. ;-)
My youngest grandson & grandaughter said I should come go snow boarding with them!! I emailed back to say at my age “I don’t think so!” I did say I might try to snowshoe if we ever went somewhere when there was snow. Now, I’m rethinking that! My balance just isn’t what it used to be.

    Have a great weekend.

  13. Heather @ That Uncomfortable Itch says:

Falling truly is so funny to witness and then catch on camera. Lucky girl, your daughter! ;-)
