Hump Day
December 1, 2010 | Filed under: Stuff
I couldn’t sleep. Alpha Man in my way. Dog barking. Wind howling. Story anxiety. I woke up more tired than when I went to bed. But if I thought I had it bad, this is what I found in the morning when I went to wake up Youngest for school.

I told the cat to get off of my baby and I got the Queen Bee-yotch look. Apparently Youngest is the cat’s own personal heater. And since it’s -7, a personal heater is the most valuable thing in the house at the moment.
Oh! And I need something new to read. Whatcha reading?
P.S. Don’t forget, next Tuesday night, 12/7, if you’re on Twitter, I’ll be doing a Kmart/author chat. More details to come.
P.S.S. I sold the audio rights to The Sweetest Thing, so for all of you who have asked why I don’t have more books on tape, they’re coming!!!!
P.S.S.S. To the very rude man who sneezed in my face this morning in line to buy a donut, may your dog roll in bear poop.

I’m reading (and enjoying greatly) THE SERGEANT’S LADY/Susanna Fraser. Once I’ve finished it, NOT THAT KIND OF GIRL/Susan Donovan is up next!

Cats are the perfect heaters in winter. I’m always happy when ours decide to lie down on me.
I’m right now reading “Touched by an Alien” by Gini Koch (very funny and great) and next is a book by Lila DiPasqua.

and after said dog rolls in bear poo, may it climb in the rude man’s bed and roll in the sheets. Gotta love (not) those indiscriminate sneezers.

I’m reading “Possession in Death” by J.D. Robb from the anthology “The Other Side”
I need one of those personal heaters.

I have one of those personal heaters- the only difference between a cat and a blanket is that the cat purrs.
“May your dog roll in bear poop”- one of the best insults I’ve heard in forever.
For cat-servants like me I would say ‘May your cat roll around a dirty litter box’.

My two cats use me for their heating comfort all the time – but by the looks of your cat probably are the same weight together as your one.
Currently reading “Promises in the Dark” by Stephanie Tyler. Also trying to finish Ilona Andrews “Bayou Moon” — loved “The Edge” and all her “Magic” books but having a hard time getting into this story.

We gave up about 4 years ago and gave the cat a heating pad on her cat tree, under her little kitty hide-out bed. She spends all day there. She occasionally sticks out a paw to wave hello but that’s all we see of her.
AUDIO!!! Wonderful!! I listen to audio books all the time when I run & walk and stuff. I’ve been wishing for ages that your books were on audio.

LOL on the PSS – my new favorite insult. It should come in handy this morning on my daily commute. effing 405. grrr.
Just finished Toni McGee Causey’s Bobbie Faye trilogy. Charmed and Dangerous, Girls Just Wanna Have Guns and When A Man Loves A Weapon. Odd titles, the second two, but a very good romp. Love, love, love Trevor. (sigh.)
In the middle of HelenKay Dimon’s Impulsive. Got sucked in last night. Stayed up super late reading. Just couldn’t put it down. I am so going to pay for that today.

I just started reading Hoda, How I Survived War Zones, Bad Hair, Cancer and Kathie Lee. So far it is good. Recently I read Carol Burnett’s book This Time Together, very good. If you like Carol Burnett you would enjoy the book. I also read Susan Andersen’s book Burning Up which I loved as she has humor in her stories, one of the many reasons I love your books. Also read Real Men Last ALL Night by several authors. Whew!!
Hot!!
Loved your insult to the “sneezer”. People can be so rude.

I’m sorry you couldn’t sleep. I’m 6.5 months pregnant, so I understand that inherently, but one night last week I got up for a potty break in the middle of the night, and when I got back to bed, the hubby was sprawled across the whole darn thing. So I asked him to please move to make room for his pregnant wife, and he replied, “There’s lots of room in the bathroom.” (He didn’t remember saying that the next morning, and he’s one of the good guys, so I forgave him, but not after giving him a good poke in the ribs and shoving him across the bed.)
Also having sympathy pangs for Youngest, as my slightly neurotic feline is currently pinning my arms down and making typing difficult.
Hope you have a better day today!

I’ve always been a light sleeper, and after 5 babies in 12 years, my system didn’t know HOW to sleep through the night. 5 or 6 yrs ago I started noticing some cognitive impairment, like memory lapses, inability to concentrate, difficulty learning new things, headaches, irritability, etc. My mom had just been diagnosed with what we now know was early Alzheimer’s so I was really nervous when I finally went to the Dr about not sleeping. She gave me information on chronic sleep deprivation and, what do you know? It causes cognitive impairment! I’ve been taking Ambien nightly for 6 or 7 years now. Someday they may find Ambien is bad for you, but I can’t worry about it. I now sleep 6 or 7 hours a night and can function. And it’s probably safer than large doses of alcohol!
Best book I’ve read in a long time is The Iron Duke by Meljean Brook. It’s a steampunk romance. Amazing world building and strong plotting and character development.
