Simply Irresistible
September 1, 2010 | Filed under: Stuff
I got a note from my editor yesterday that included a quote from Publishers Weekly on my upcoming book, Simply Irresistible:
“Heartwarming and sexy…an abundance of chemistry, smoldering romance, and hilarious sisterly antics.”—Publishers Weekly
Isn’t that a damn pretty quote?
Made my whole day. Thought maybe I should share an excerpt, enticing you all to want to preorder…

Excerpt:
The loud knocking startled Maddie out of a dead sleep. Discombobulated, she blinked, and then blinked again, but all she could see was a sea of green and a flashing red that had her groaning and lifting her hands to hold her pounding head.Taking stock, she realized that she was flat on her back beneath the tree, staring up at a string of obnoxious chili pepper lights. Or maybe that was the hangover that was so obnoxious.
With another groan, she managed to sit up and nearly took out an eye with one of the low, straggly tree branches. Slapping a hand over it, she looked down at herself. Huh. She was completely tangled in red yarn. And she was pretty sure she had sap in her hair.
Her sisters were still prone under the tree, out cold. Chloe was snoring. Tara was . . . smiling? Not a sight Maddie had seen often. She shook her head, then groaned at the movement.
Note to self— never drink again.
The knock on the front door came a second time, and in unison, Chloe and Tara sat straight up, conked their heads together, and moaned.
Maddie staggered toward the door, caught sight of herself in the small mirror over the little table in the foyer, and just about screamed. Her hair had rioted. The little mascara she’d had on her lashes was now outlining her eyes, and she had a crease down one cheek from whatever she’d used as a pillow, which she suspected had been the yarn she was still wrapped in. “Never again,” she told her pathetic reflection and then pointed at it for emphasis. Her reflection stuck her tongue out.
With a sigh, she opened the front door, then stood there in a stupor. Standing on the porch, wearing faded Levi’s, a black sweater over a black T-shirt, mirrored sunglasses, and a crooked smile was Jax Cullen.
Maddie stared up at Jax, who was not hung over and didn’t have a crease on his face. He looked big, and bad, and so sexy it should be a crime, and she reacted without thinking.
She shut the door in his face.
Tara gasped.
Chloe laughed.
And Maddie covered her face. “Quick, somebody shoot me.”
“Honey.” Tara’s hand settled on her shoulder. “Maybe you don’t know this being from LA and all, but shutting the door on someone’s nose is considered rude in almost all fifty states.”
“You don’t understand. It’s him. Jax. ” And maybe it was the fact that her brain was on low battery, but just looking at him made her hot and bothered. Her! The woman who’d decreed that the entire male race was scum. “What do I do?”
“Well, for starters,” Chloe said, “You stop slamming door on guys who look like that. ”
“He has superpowers,” Maddie said, nibbling on her thumbnail.
“Yeah?” Clearly fascinated, Chloe took another peek. “Like being hot as hell?”
Feeling like preordering yet? Go ahead, I’ll wait … (Here for the book, here for the Kindle version)
Oh, are ya back? Good. While you’re here, maybe you could answer a question. Where do you buy the majority of your books? The grocery store? Target? Amazon? Borders? Where? Inquiring minds want to know …

As I don’t live in the US I depend on online book stores for my books. The Book Depository Store is my go-to online bookseller and sometimes a Dutch online store called Van Stockum. Went to the US (L.A.) earlier this year and went crazy at Borders and B&N! Had never been in a brick & mortar store where I could actually touch the romance books before buying instead of just looking at covers on a computer screen. Don’t have that here in the Netherlands and it was my idea of heaven on earth! *sigh*

I have already pre-ordered. Now just waiting, waiting, waiting! Mostly I buy from the Book Depository because they have good prices and free shipping to OZ. Often I get books faster ordering through them than if I waited for my local bookshop to get them in. I would buy more electronically but so many e-books are not for sale if you live in OZ. I wish the geographic rights thing would get sorted. Sigh! One day.

I mainly buy at Borders since its the closest to home. If I feel like driving a bit I go to B&N. I only order online if I have a gift card.
I am so looking forward to this book.

I get points for ordering from B&N, so usually I order online, but I love going into a store, and Borders is my favorite, followed by B&N.
Can’t wait for this one. Woot!

Have pre-ordered already.
The Book Depository. I love them. Free delivery! And the price (for me) can’t be beat. I can usually get about 1 1/2 – 2 books for the price I would pay for a single book at a local brick-and-mortar (or online) store. And they’re faster than the local online stores with the delivery! Days instead of weeks. Plus they have awesome customer service! And they’re just generally full of win…

I’ve already pre-ordered at Amazon – get most of my books there or Books A Million. I rarely get to a book store anymore. The only thing about pre-ordering is that it seems to be forever until you get the book.

Good Morning Jill!
For e-books I use http://www.diesel-ebooks.com. Great prices and you get a monetary credit for each book purchase to use on your next order. I have a Nook so I also use B&N too.
For “real” books LOL I usually get them at B&N or our Kroger grocery store. For some reason they have a monster book aisle and are cheap. Odd, but it works for me
Have a great day!

Hi Jill – I am ahead of you – I had already pre ordered it on Amazon…..I usually don’t like to wait for it to come in the mail so I usually like to pick up my books in Target or even Costco if they have it.
I am excited for your new book!!!!
Have a great day!

On-line is a lot cheaper but sometimes Chapters has extra discounts or $5.00 off a $35.00 purchase. If I really don’t want to wait for a book, I’ll just pay the $1.00 or so extra it works out to & get it in person. Right now I have a 50% off one item coupon so I’ll use it on a trade size book which saves anywhere from $7.00 to $10.00. My Chapters discount is %10 but some grocery stores & Wal Mart offer 25% so I check there first. For a backlist I use the UBS if they are no longer available.

BTW if I don’t have $35.00 worth of books to buy to use the coupons, I just wait till I do. You have to spend $40.00 on line to get free shipping.

Posted on September 1st, 2010 at 5:59 amWell, since I got my Kindle a few years ago, I rarely buy in tree form. But pre-Kindle days I bought almost all my books from BooksAMillion.

I have a Kindle, which is great for impulse buys, pre-orders and all the others I absolutely must have RIGHT THIS SECOND. I also do Borders and Target. Borders is dangerous, because it is really difficult for me to leave any book behind. Finally, for those that I want to read eventually, I belong to paperbackswap.com. It’s a good way to get older books (if you missed something when it first came out and can no longer find it in the bookstore).

Most of my books are bought at Wal-Mart, Target & Border’s. I also like Amazon especially for preordering which can be dangerous!!
I do use paperbackbookswap which is great if you discover a new to you author you can usually find older books there. The library is a great source for hardcovers which are way to expensive & too heavy!!

Like Pearl, the first to comment here, I live in the Netherlands and like she said, it is almost impossible to get any of the romance novels I want over here! Very occasional I come across books by authors I like translated into Dutch, but let me tell you: all the magic is lost that way
I prefer to read them in English, so I have to rely on Amazon and some Dutch online bookstores. I once ordered one of Jills books at a Dutch website but they first made me wait for about 6 months (telling me it would take ‘some time’!) and then eventually let me know it could not be delivered
Amazingly enough the German Amazon has a lot of English romance novels and with no shipping costs to the Netherlands (something I as a Dutchie like very much of course
) I am not really a fan (yet) of e-books, because the only e-reader I own at the moment is the old one from my friend which is pretty useless right now because it has a broken screen (apparantly sitting on your e-reader is not very wise, who would have thought so? ) Sorry for the long story, but I just want to say that I absolutely love reading your blog everyday. You have such a great sense of humour and, being a Veterinary student, I really love reading all the stories about your animals.

Since getting an iPad in May I’ve been primarily getting my books from the iBooks store. If they don’t have the books I want, I’ll check the Nook app or Kindle app as a last resort. I’m not a fan of the Kindle app, on the iPad it does some strange formatting things. Unfortunately iBooks doesn’t have all your books, just some of them (what’s up with that? I would love to be able to get them all there) so I try multiple locations. But one way or another I’ll be buying this one for sure!!

I’m with pearl and Esther, tho the uk version
in the uk book shops and supermarkets do not tend to sell romance books unless they have been out for ages or they are mills and boon (our name for harlequin romance) so I rely on online stores especially the book depository and amazon. However, there is a huge delay between the US release and the uk, we are kept waiting much too long! Boooo!
Better not keeping me waiting for this series, mrs. I get impatient!

I buy new books at Borders, usually with a coupon. If I don’t have a coupon and really want the book, I’ll buy it anyway, unless it’s a cookbook. Then I’ll wait for the e-mail coupons or hope that Costco has it.
With Amazon and BN.com, I’ll usually buy used books that are either really expensive new or are a few years old and I can’t get from my local bookstore.

All books other than Hq.’s, Borders at its store (am trying to keep it in business). Hq.’s books ordered at eHq.com 1 mo. in advance under its “Upcoming Books” procedure. With the latter, are able to order w/o listing VISA no. (just send a check upon receipt), & total shipping of $3 no matter how many books ordered (unless over $25, then w/o charge.

So now that all of you pre-ordered… I just joined the club. But I compared thebookdepository and amazon.de and amazon was cheaper. Here in Germany you usually do not have large sections in book stores where you can buy romance. Romance as a genre itself is treated stepmotherly. Additional to that, most romance books are not translated into German (no problem for me) and foreign language sections in book stores are usually smaller than my shower. So I often rely on eharlequin and allromanceebooks. But thanks Cindy for suggesting diesel ebooks, seems cheaper than the other ones.

Some books, depending upon price: Walmart, Sam’s, Costco
I hunt online for the best prices. Amazon is a last resort. Really like B&N for my iPad. Sooooooooo easy to buy those eBooks; probably far too easy!
