More RWA 2010

August 1, 2010 | Filed under: Stuff

So I’m home from Florida. No one will be surprised that the reason I couldn’t post a lot of pictures was because I forgot to pack the cord to download them from my camera. I brought my computer cord, my cell phone cord, my ereader cord, my ipod cord and a hair straightener.

But no camera cord.

Such is my life. I’ve learned to be patient with myself. The day I left, driving towards the airport, the sun was just rising …

I rarely see the sunrise. Mostly because that’s when I’m doing one of my favorite things, snoozing.

Last Wednesday I sat at the Literacy Signing in Orlando signing books. Always a great time. Many of the people who came up to me mentioned this blog, told me how much they enjoyed it. We talked about pets, I Love Lucy, and books. Loved meeting you! But mostly I was very distracted by the ceiling and how cool it looked through my camera lens.

I know, I’m weird. You’ll have to excuse me, my roomie and I (Hi, Helenkay!!!) had to get up at 4:15 Florida time to get home. Which was 1:15 California time … which means that I’m very very very tired. And possibly punchy. And most definitely hungry.

The panel I did with Sarah from Smart Bitches and the wonderful, incomparable writer Theresa Mederois turned out to be great fun. I thought I was going to throw up ahead of time, but the good news is that I didn’t. ;-)

Sarah is always fantastic company, and as it turns out, I love Theresa too. Like me, she writes in slippers, has to disconnect from the internet if she wants to get pages written, AND loves her cats. Gotta love her for that alone.

And then there was meeting Susan Anderson!! Oh how I’ve adored her books. Here’s Helenkay Dimon, me, and Susan. (I’m not really on a first name basis with Susan, but I like pretending I am. )

Oh! And Nora!!! I managed to stalk Nora and get a picture! She’s written a gazillion books, and I know this because I have every single one of them and then I have repeats on my ereader, and then I have half of the JD Robb series on my ipod. Yes, fine. Hi, my name is Jill and I’m a Nora addict. Happy?

I wish I’d gotten a picture of Robyn Carr, who was wonderful and warm and gracious, introducing me to her readers at a luncheon she was holding. I wish I’d gotten a picture of my wonderful editors Brenda Chin and Kate Seaver. Brenda and I walked to the boardwalk and back in 200 degree heat and 200 percent humidity. Did so. And we both sweated out our weight, which allowed me to have lots of desserts.

Here I am with Helenkay Dimon at the Ritas. You can’t quite tell but I’m flashing WAY more boobage than I intended. Note to self: next year pack an extra little black dress so you have choices if you’ve eaten too many cookies …

And I have a new best friend.

His name is Steve and he likes long walks in the grass along the hotel grounds, bread crumbs, and posing for pictures. And last but not least, I didn’t win the Reader’s Choice, nor the Rita. I’m a two time loser this time around, lol, but that’s okay. I had a great time and there’s always another year …

Well if I ruled the world…you would have won! But I doubt that job is coming my way anytime soon! Looks like you had a great time. But Nora looks like she needs a nap! ;-)

  2. Kim in Hawaii says:

Aloha, Jill! Great meeting you at the social networking panel … and again outside the hotel … and again at the airport for that early flight to Vegas!

Thanks for sharing info about your blog at the panel .. and for sharing the beautiful pictures on this blog!

Regarding your roomie, HelenKay, she’s a doll for supporting military families in Hawaii and the Aloha Chapter of RWA.

Regarding Robyn Carr, she’s also fantastic in her support of military families (her son is currently deployed).

Looking forward to seeing you at future conventions!

  3. Judy F says:

Finished The Heat is on. Loved it.

OOOh!, you lucky stiff,Nora Roberts!!!!! I absolutely love her books. She is always my go to author when I need to escape life with teens. Obviously the commitee that chooses the winners of the awards aren’t the brightest bulbs in the chandelier(you’ll always be our winner). Looks like you had a great trip, I especially like Steve!

Are Alpha Man & Jake okay with Steve?

It looks like RWA was another success for you despite not winning! You are a winner in my book, always. I’ve seen Nora look better in pictures! Maybe she knew she couldn’t out shine you. Meeting Susan Anderson & Robyn Carr would just be fantastic. I read both of them & just happen to be reading Nora’s Black Hills. I haven’t gotten to the store yet to get your latest Blaze.

Thanks for sharing RWA & the pictures with us. Glad you are home safe but tired.

  13. Pat L. says:

It must have been great to meet Susan and Robyn. Would love to meet you too, you are such a hoot! Would also love to meet Susan Mallery. Was she there do you know?

    Jill,

Your very photogenic. I think all your pics came out great. Your a winner in all of your many fans eyes. You must have many, because your not working at Taco Bell yet! lol

I’ve read all your summer selections, and now I have to wait for your next book. boo hoo

  15. Mel says:

Loved the pics, especially the one of Steve…what a looker! ;-)
Nora Roberts – lucky girl – I think if I ever met her (or, really, anyone famous), I’d temporarily lose the ability to talk. It’s my curse in life.
Regardless of a lack of awards, your books are phenomenal and your readers love you. So, that should count for something…right?!?

  16. Robin says:

It was so great meeting you at the Literacy Signing! I’m so bummed I forget to whip out my camera and take a picture with *you*. I met and had breakfast with Theresa at the airport very early Sunday morning and she was so nice! Thanks for sharing photos!

  17. azteclady says:
