Monday’s Musing

June 21, 2010 | Filed under: Stuff

The calendar says it’s nearly summer, but really, here in the Sierras, we’re just getting spring. And odd as it probably seems to most of you, there are still spots of snow in the forest that I come across on my walks.

Poor Frat Boy is almost out of places to pee. You see we got him in the thick of winter, and he was potty trained to go out and pee on the snow and NOT in my house. Sometimes he still gets confused and pees inside and then when I get all upset, he smacks his own forehead and says “oh that’s right, you said to pee OUTSIDE, sorry”. And then he smiles and wants to know if I’d like to play.

Sigh.

Where was I? Oh yes, summer. Summer is almost here and I can’t wait. Just today I was sitting on my beach chair reading. Sure I was wrapped in sweats and boots and a blanket, but the point is, I was outside in the sun. I call it practicing for summer.

I wish I could practice all week but I have to get back to my own book today. But I spent the weekend reading a fantastic book, Time Weaver by Shana Abe. Lyrical and haunting. I was in a huge, disappointing reading slump, but I hope I’m out of it now. So please, for all of us, the question of the day — WHAT ARE YOU READING?

I am reading The Jaguar Prince by Karen Kelley. Very Funny

  2. Stacy ~ says:

I am so relieved to have summer here. Seems like it took forever. Hope it lasts.

I’m reading Twice Bitten by Chloe Neill, and loving it.

  3. Trish Mc says:

Summer is finally here in Michigan. It seems as tho we’ve been waiting over a year for it to arrive.
Yesterday afternoon I finished A Secret Affair by Mary Balogh – Con’s story. Last night I started Perfect Little Wives by Abby Drake.

  4. Angela says:

In the sweltering 90s here in Pennsylvania~I am not complaining though.

I am reading Tempted by Lori Foster.

  5. Pat L. says:

Finished Sherryl Woods latest Sweet Carolina’s Trilogy – V.G. Just started Jodi Thomas’ Welcome to Harmony – sounds interesting so far and it is part of a series. YAY.

I just finished The Karma Club by Jessica Brody. A light, easy read.

  8. Booklover1335 says:

I just got done reading NINE RULES TO BREAK WHEN ROMANCING A RAKE by Sarah MacLean and absolutely loved it. Was better than I expected even after reading all of the great reviews. I also read HIS AT NIGHT by Sherry Thomas which was a disappointment.

  9. Amy M says:

Sorry that it its still chilly there! Hope it warms up soon.

I am reading Shannon McKenna’s new one, Fad to Midnight. I like it a lot

  10. tennismom says:

    Hi Jill
Hope you warm up soon. Some evil person got me hooked on the Lisa Kleypas comtemp trilogy. I don’t normally read first person POV. I inhaled Sugar Daddy. Bought Blue-Eyed Devil & Smooth Talking Stranger yesterday.
Started BED & now I don’t want to work, I just want to read. Evil.

  12. Brandy says:

It’s supposed to be 95 today not counting the humidity/heat index. I’d take your Spring-like temps in a heartbeat. *g* I’m reading nothing at the moment. I’m out of books and crossing my fingers that the library gets on the ball and has books come in for me.

  13. hollygee says:

Beautiful picture and I love your conversations with Frat Boy.

I’ve just finished the first two of Jacqueline Winspear’s Maisie Dobbs books and now reading “Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand” by Helen Simonson. All are good.

I’m getting a little nervous because I’m almost finished and don’t have another book lined-up to read.

  14. Ronna Drane says:

I just finished “Chick with a Charm” by Vicky Lewis Thompson. Also reading the “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” series with my daughter. Very cute.

  15. Ange says:

If you are looking for an excellent read, try Those Who Save Us by Jenna Blum. I’m not a huge WWII Lit fan, I prefer non-fic but this is the story of a mother and daughter, their relationship and how far the mom was willing to go to save her daughter. Best I have read in awhile.

  16. Susan says:

I’m almost finished with Hot as Sin by Bella Andre. Next up is Reunion in Death by J D Robb.

  17. kc says:

Just finished Bared and currently in the middle of Storm Watch… catching up on some of your older Blaze titles. =)
Was in the middle of Rapture in Death, but I think I figured out the killer once again and now I’m a bit put off. I’m sure I’ll pick it up again once I’ve cleansed my palate as I can’t seem to be able get enough of Roarke.

  18. Dee B says:

The picture looks just like a postcard; being almost 90 degrees here today, I actually envy you. I get the biggest thrill out of your conversations with Frat Boy – my puppy had a hard time remembering he had to pee outside, Frat Boy will come around.
I am currently reading Acts of Mercy by Mariah Stewart.

  19. Carrie says:

It is 90 in Chino Hills…come visit. I just finished The ART OF RACING IN THE RAIN by Garth Stein. A book written through the eyes of a dog. Touching and heartfelt.

  20. Jane says:

I’ve just finished Rachel Gibson’s “Nothing But Trouble” and Toni Blake’s Destiny books.

  21. Diana says:

I’m actually in the middle of your book, Instant Temptation. Enjoying it so far. :)

  22. WendyG says:

Just finished Naked in Death and Glory in Death, JD Robb; Man Who Loved Pride and Prejudice, Abigail Reynolds; Burning Lamp, Amanda Quick; currently reading Chasing Perfect, Susan Mallery. It’s cold, dreary and raining here….lots of time to read.
