Wild Man

So we took the baby to the lake. He’d never seen a body of water before. And seeing how he’s a little afraid of his own shadow, he wasn’t exactly … ready. In fact, he said “Daddy, I don’t wanna.”

Then Middle tried. She said “Jake, don’t be a baby!” And he said “But I AM a baby!”

And then he said “Damn this water is COLD!”

But he got over himself because it tasted good. And then he went home and …

Did what he does best, which is look adorable … Well, that’s his second best talent. Because his number one talent is chewing. Everything.

Soooo cute! He does look adorable
[I know that works on some dogs]
Posted on March 19th, 2010 at 1:47 amAs for his chewing everything… uh oh – maybe it’s time for you to invest in a tub of bitter apple spray?
Or… windex

Jake sure does have a are you nuts looks on his face about the water.
He is a doll.
How are Sadie and Ashes doing?

Aw! What a cutie. Nobody can look as sweetly pathetic as a puppy can. Mine is currently convinced there’s a black hole on the other side of the bathroom door, and when I’m there, he must sit and cry and cram his nose under the door in complete misery.
Posted on March 19th, 2010 at 3:20 amThank goodness, he’s passed out of the chewing phase. I think I bought more shoes this year than I did in the past decade because of those teeth!

OMG so cute! I hope he gets over the chewing thing soon, for your sanity’s sake.
Does he have any distinctive “Jake” qualities?

I soooo agree with Sommer—my center of gravity would never let me balance on a rock like that. Jake’s certainly playing the cute card.

Aww! Jake is too cute for words. He reminds me of my lab who passed away 2 years ago. I love labs, but I’m kinda biased when it comes to them. lol And with the chewing, I agree with Liza. Raw hides seemed to work as well as buddha bones (sp?) and pig ears. He got over his chewing phase when he was about a year old.

He’s darling! For the crazed chewing when my two were puppies, I got them beef tendons and stuffed a lot of Kongs. If you put yogurt+mashed banana or peanut butter+mashed banana or canned dog food into a Kong and freeze it, that will keep him busy, too.
We also played a LOT of tug games. Then they were engaged with me, chewing on something, and out of trouble all at the same time.

What an adorable puppy.
Are you sure he is a lab, they love the water! Maybe it was that it was so cold.
Brrrr! I know that water is just melted snow!!
I might have an old pair of slippers I could donate for Jake to chew on!!!!
Love your pictures, thanks for always sharing with us.
Enjoy the weekend.

Such a cutie! Hope your family has a wonderful weekend with him and we get more pictures.
UPS just brought my copy of Instant Temptation so I’m spending my weekend with TJ. (If only in my dreams
) But I will be reading the book – all of it.

Give him a couple of weeks and he’ll be the blob swimming out towards the middle of the lake. When we got our dog from the rescue centre she didn’t bark. Not once. But then after a few weeks, when she realised she wasn’t going to get into trouble for barking or whining she finally barked. And guess what? She’s not stopped since – not since she knows that barking gets her stuff like the fire, chew sticks etc. Caroline x

Jake is WAY CUTE!!! As for the chewing…the Kong with some treats inside should do the trick! Lots and Lots of toys for the puppy helps also! Love the black labs!!:)

Congratulations!!!! He’s completely adorable! And if it helps at all, the first year I had Latte (a blind Lab/Aussie mix, from a rescue) she was a complete nightmare. She ate everything from my kitchen table and chairs to the inside of her dog door (dry wall and insulation included). She is now the best dog and has earned her nickname of Angel-girl.
