Day One of PUPPY

March 16, 2010 | Filed under: Stuff

I wanted to thank all of you for your comments and well wishes on our new addition. We chose a rescue dog for many reasons, not the least of which is we’ve always gained a member of the family by doing just that.

Jake will be no exception.

Not to say that it’s easy. You all know me better than that. NOTHING goes smoothly in this household. And today was no exception. In spite of everyone promising to take shifts, I somehow ended up alone with Jake The Wild Boy during the only shift where he was actually AWAKE.

It so happened I was trying to write at the time. I swear, I put my head into my scene for ONE SINGLE second and Wild Boy stole a toilet brush out of the bathroom, dragged it across my floor and brought it to his bed and chewed on it before I noticed.

BAD puppy mommy.

Then I said let’s go potty and he stood up and peed.

On my floor.

Then he smiled at me and wanted to get in my lap. With toilet brush breath and pee-pee on his feet.

I’ll tell you what. God knew what he was doing when he made puppies cute.

He did it for the same reason he made teenagers cute — so we don’t kill them…

Poor Jill. It’s going to take a little time before Jake is ready to be left more on his own. Good luck. We are here for you!

Congrats Jill! He is so adorable. My DH and I just rescued a 1 yoa black Lab/Shepherd mix from our local Humane Society. She has been part of our family for a month now. Even though she is 1 yoa she STILL gets into things and we are constantly watching her to make sure she’s not tearing up a bed pillow, eating my Hubby’s favorite pull over sweater, or eating my hair brush. Yes, all of those have happened. The joy she has brought into our life out weighs everything she has done so far, we love her so much.

  8. Ronna says:

It is obvious from the picture that Jake knows he did wrong! Ok — maybe not but gosh he is cute!

  24. Dee B. says:

Thanks for sharing Wild Boy’s latest adventures, I look forward to hearing more of them. How did the other pets react to him when you brought him home?

  25. Marie Force says:

    Jill,
We’ve lived parallel stories! My lovely adorable Consuela died last year at 17 and today we welcomed a new puppy, 13 weeks old. She seems calm compared to your Jake (which is our son’s name). One of my readers told me that you and I were in the same boat! Enjoy your new friend. May he bring you many years of joy!
    Marie

  26. Allie says:

    Awww! :)

  27. TrishMc says:

Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
If I die before I wake, feed Jake, he’s been a good dog,
My best friend right through it all, if I die before I wake,
    Feed Jake
    (Pirates Of The Mississippi)
    Congratulations on your new puppy.

  28. big dog mom pam says:

Congrats on the addition of Luke to the family. I have a beautiful black lab named Luci and I told her every day for the first year of her life that it was a good thing she was cute . . . she tried to chew the deck . . . . I won’t tell how old she was before she finally settled down . . .
