At what I’m working on. Shh, don’t tell.
“You okay?”
“Working on it,” she said, and gave him a small smile.
He returned the smile and stepped a little closer to her, which is when she discovered several things. One, she still had to fight the automatic flight response in her and had to purposely hold her ground, not taking a step back.
Two, and even more unsettling, he smelled good – sexy and alluring. Closing her eyes, her body actually tingled, brought to a hyper-awareness that felt almost foreign as something zinged through her.
Desire. Bone melting desire.
When she opened her eyes again, he was even closer. His eyes weren’t the solid warm caramel she’d thought, but had flecks of gold dancing in them as well. She could have drowned in all that deliciousness.
Not a bad way to go, she figured. Death by lust.
He took the shake out of her hands and put it on the railing. “Maddie,” he said. Just that, just her name in a deep voice that promised things she no longer believed in.
But then suddenly the part of her brain that had dictated the whole giving-up-men thing went on a vacay somewhere on the other side of reality, probably sharing a suite with the same gray matter that thought she could make a go of the inn. So instead of taking a step back, she took one forward, and met him halfway on wobbly legs.
And what happened next was the oddest thing of all.
Odd and scary and amazing.
A heavenly sigh drifted past her lips as his arms came around her, and then his mouth touched hers, warm and tasting like the chocolate shake and forgotten hopes and dreams, and then …
And then there were no more thoughts.
And P.S. … Slow Heat is out!!! Wherever books are sold including Amazon, Borders and BN. Go forth and buy. Keep me from applying for that job I always wanted at Taco Bell. Thank you kindly!

Hi Jill
So sorry for whinging, but here it is….I am so disappointed
. I read Double Play and couldn’t wait for Slow Heat to be released. I tried to purchase a copy as an ebook today and because i live in Australia, i can’t purchase it
. It tells me that it is not available as an ebook outside of the U.S. So disappointed. i think i’ll just have to get it shipped and content myself with some of your other titles for a while
.
.
Posted on February 2nd, 2010 at 6:37 amBTW – i keep finding more of your titles out there and they are all just great. i think you are a great writer. Keep up the good work

Posted on February 2nd, 2010 at 7:08 amThat is a tease, when can we expect more?
Nicole Laurent says:
Woo-hoo! So glad you shared an excerpt of this story. And what a sexy tease you shared!
I would, however, like to point out that only Jill Shalvis would have the brilliance to combine two of the best things on earth: A bone melting kiss with a hot alpha male … and the flavor of chocolate!

My copy of Slow Heat arrived today! I can’t start it until the weekend though. I read the last baseball one in 6 hours with only one break (to write and tell you how much I liked it!).
I know I won’t be able to put this one down so it would be dangerous start it at night or before work or something.
