Whatcha Reading?

December 2, 2009 | Filed under: Stuff

Recently I joined a book club. Okay not really. Just me and a good friend from across the country reading the same book and dishing on it. Love doing that! So we just read Dead Before Dark by Charlene Harris together and discussed it until we were tired of ourselves. Good times. Now I’m reading The Killing dance by Laurell K. Hamiton. Apparently I’m on a vampire kick.

I’m also on a Golden Double Stuffed Oreo kick, but let’s not go there.

What are you reading or what have you read recently?

LL Miller – A Stone Creek Christmas, Susan Wiggs – latest Christmas book – title escapes me – sorry. Am reading an oldie from JA Krentz (non Christmas) – Dangerous Magic. When I finish that will read Lisa Dale – It Happened On Night. Also won a book from a very funny lady’s blog – her name also escapes me but I think her initials are J.S. LOL. So that will be right up there to read soon.

  7. Dru says:

I’ve been reading mysteries lately. I’m reading True Blue by David Baldacci and recently read The Fashion Hound Murders by Elaine Viets, Crush by Alan Jacobson, Nine Dragons by Michael Connelly, Three Deuces Down by Keith Donnelly, Missing in Death by J.D. Robb.

    Best one ever.

  15. Ashley says:

Right now I’m re-reading The Twilight Series cause I went and watched New Moon and couldn’t remember half the stuff that happened! I do have to say that New Moon is much better than Twilight (the movies). When I’m done with those I’m gonna buy and read Better Naughty Than Nice!

  16. sls-rainey says:

Laura Griffin – Thread of Fear, Whisper of Warning, and Untraceable. I really enjoyed Untraceable it’s going to be part of a series and it mentions characters from the first two books I listed.

Currently, it’s 3 Brides for 3 Bad Boys by Lucy Monroe.

I think it is GREAT that you and your friend have started a book group. So many times I would like to discuss a book, but there is no one here that gets the books I read.

  23. SonyaM says:

p.s.: It is snowing in North Texas this morning. Unbelievable and incredible.

  24. Jill Shalvis says:

Maybe one of these days we can do a book club thing here … we could all vote on a book to read, give us a couple of weeks to read, and then discuss. I’d love that.

That is probably way to much information!! I really wanted to remind everyone of Jill’s Christmas stories that are out now.

Jill, it would be fun to have a “book club” with a discussion here. Great idea! Love that Christmasy picture you posted for us.

  27. Sabrina says:

Love the idea of having a book club here. I’m currently reading Hot Stuff by Carly Phillips. After the Hot Zone series I’m hoping it’ll be cold enough outside to read all the Christmas stories on my tbr pile.

I just finished the first two books in a vampire series by Chloe Neill:

    Some Girls Bite
    Friday Night Bites

Great reads!! I find myself thinking about the characters since I finished the books and am bummed that I have to wait until June for the next book. Now I am reading Stephanie Tyler’s,

    Hard To Hold.

Just started it but it is good so far. BTW, I would also be interested in participating in a book club.

  29. Susan says:

Currently I’m reading Hard to Handle by Lori Foster. It’s the third one in her SBC fighter series. Next is My Man, Michael (same series).

  30. Amy M says:

I am reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Oh my where to start with this one. I am in a sort of make shift reading group, it is with 3 friends and myself, and this is our current read. Man, I am having a hard time and I am just starting the second chapter. It is all translated from Sweedish, but still I feel lost. I am going to keep going forward though, because one girl already finished it while she was on vacation and said that we just have to keep chugging along and that it does get good. I am going to need something lighthearted

  31. Randi says:

I am on a vampire kick, too. Currently, I am reading PC Cast’s new House of Night book “Tempted.” I’ve read them all and they are good enough to keep going. Next on my list is Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead and Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah.

  32. Amy Shoemaker says:

I am reading Acheron, by Sherrilyn Kenyon. My mother managed to get me into the dark hunter series.

Right now, I’m reading Kindred in Death. I took a break from romance last month, but I’m back this month. I need to refresh. Sometimes all the happy happy lovey lovey brings me down a bit. I need a few dead bodies sprinkled in there to get me wanting the happy again.

  35. Nicole S says:

I just finished Merry Christmas, Cowboy by Cindy Kirk. It was good!

  36. Brandy says:

I just read Fallen Rogue by Amy Rench and am now reading The Better Part of Darkness by Kelly Gay.

Just recently finished Impetuous by Lori Foster; Letters from Home and The Soldier by Rhonda Nelson; and oh yah…..Better Naughty than Nice! Next up….Dead Wrong by JA Jance.

  43. Patricia says:

Like others, am crazy about Robyn Carr’s “Virgin River” series, which finds me waiting until 12/29 for the (I believe) 9th book. Also, like Donna M. really am enjoying NR’s “Wedding Quartet” series & am anxiously waiting for the 3rd book, scheduled for 4/10.

    Patricia

  44. Diana says:

I’m rereading This Heart of Mine by Susan Elizabeth Phillips. It’s one of my favorite books by SEP.

  45. Heather says:

The best thing about having a friend who shares your tastes in reading is talking about the books you’ve both read. Right now K and I are impatiently awaiting the next Sookie (we have to wait until May?!). In the mean time, I’m trying to whittle down the staggering pile of Christmas-themed books amassed over the years. So far this past week I have read: A DOG NAMED CHRISTMAS by Greg Kinkaid (read it before watching the movie Sunday night), HE SEES YOU WHEN YOU’RE SLEEPING by Mary Higgins Clark and Carol Higgins Clark, and MARRY-ME CHRISTMAS by Shirley Jump.

  46. Kathy from California says:

I loved the Chloe Neil books, Diane. The second best attitude I’ve ever read in that kind of book, second only to the Patricia Briggs Mooncalled series.

I’m re-reading the Karen Chance series. Love the world building.

Also reading YA The Hunger Games by Susannah Collins. Starts grim.

Also re-reading the City of Bones, City of Glass, City of Ashes YA series by Cassandra Clare, which I adored.

  47. Elle says:

Just finished No Reservations, the sequel to Taking Care of Business by Lauren Dane & Megan Hart.

  48. Elen says:

Jill – I’m so up for a book club.

Just finished reading Janet Chapman’s A Highlander Christmas. Am about to begin Linda Howard’s Ice.

I’m seeing a lot of books I’ve read and some on my TBR pile in these posts.
