Send good thoughts!

September 9, 2009 | Filed under: Stuff

As you read this, I am sitting next to Oldest’s hospital bed. She had to have her tonsils out.

I’d tell you to feel sorry for her, but the truth is, I’d rather you feel sorry for me.

Because it’s me that who be listening to the whining, moaning and groaning. I’m going to need cookies. Lots of cookies.

So if you could feel sorry for me, that would be great. That is all. Oh! I have an I Love Lucy short for you. I was at the lake, soaking up the last of summer when I was dive bombed by this HUGE ass bug with more legs and eyeballs than I’ve ever seen on a bug. And he had a beard. Hand to heaven. I had my manuscript in my lap in the small beach chair and I leapt up and screamed and pages of my book went flying everywhere. There was a guy about ten feet away from me and he looked at me and raised a calm eyebrow and I was jumping up and down and shaking off imaginary hordes of bugs and having the willies. “You going to be okay?” he asked.

All I could do was sigh. Because the truth is, I’m fine but only until the next bug lands on me …

  3. Judy F says:

ah sending get well thoughts to oldest. Hopefully you will be near the snack machine too. Hugs

  4. Stacy ~ says:

I hope Oldest is doing better so mom doesn’t go all gray.

And I hope all the bugs decide to stay away from you, for your sanity…and that of those around you.

  5. Pat L. says:

Hope Oldest feels better soon. Poor thing – tonsil surgery is probably worse for an older person????

And I hope all types of critters leave you along for awhile.

  6. Shannon says:

Poor Oldest! Tell her that I hope she feels better soon!!

Oh, and sorry about the bug. But if it makes you feel any better, I would have done the exact same thing!!

  7. Amy L says:

You can tell Oldest that things could be worse: I had my tonsils out at age 41! It’s no fun at any age though.

  8. Dru says:

Hugs to Oldest. Sorry about the bugs. Did you collect all your flying pages?

  9. Bailey Stewart says:

Hugs to the oldest. Cyber cookies coming your way. I think I’ve seen that bug – really! And it’s weird looking!

  10. tennismom says:

Cookies for you – freezies for oldest. Hope she’s better soon.

  11. Ashley says:

Hope Oldest feels better soon! Load her up on popsicles and she’ll be fine! I hope you make it through okay, and lol on the guy asking if your gonna be okay!! That would so be me, I hate bugs, and if one lands on me then I feel like I have them crawling all over me, yuck!

  12. Liza says:

Cyber cookies to you and ice cream to Oldest. Tonsil surgery is much harder the older you get(praying mine never have to come out). Hope Oldest feels better soon.

I would have been right there with you dancing around if a bug had landed on me. I hate bugs, but really freak out when it is a spider.

  13. Margaret McDonagh says:

Big hugs to both of you. I hope Oldest is soon home and fighting fit again. And I wish you freedom from bug attacks – and many cookies!

    Love,
    Mags xx

  14. Kelly B says:

Really…a bug. Sorry no sympathy here. I will try to work some up for you. LOL. It could have been so much worse. It could have been a bear! And you could have had cookies and he might have wanted them. I am just saying….

  15. trish c says:

kelly..to Jill, I think a bug is worse than a bear. lol
whenever oldest complains just hand her a popsicle or some ice cream and don’t forget to get some for yourself. nothing soothes the nerves better than ice cream.

  16. SonyaM says:

It’s funny; our children are our babies, no matter what age – Mothers worry. You and Oldest will be in my prayers.

  17. Donna M says:

(((Hugs to Oldest)), hope she is feeling much better soon.

Imagine being dive bombed by a alien bug! Your story made me laugh, which proves how talented you are.

Love the pictures. It is so beautiful in your part of the world. Enjoy before the snow flies!! Oh no, the S word!!

  18. Brandy says:

Give Oldest a Hug! My Daughter has to have her tonsils and adenoids out in a couple of months. She wanted to wait until after her Karate tournament. *G* Sending virtual cookies your way!

  19. D says:

Deepest sympathies to you Jill. You need more than a few cookies. You should be queen for the day. It’s harder to be the understanding and loving mom than the sick kid. Love the bug story, you must be a constant source of entertainment to other nature lovers in the Tahoe area

  20. sls-rainey says:

Hugs to you and Oldest both. As for the bugs, I do not like them either!!!!

  21. Karin says:

I’m sending good thoughts for both you and Oldest, Jill.

  22. Jane says:

    Hope Oldest feels better soon.

  23. Susan says:

Hugs to you both! Hoping Oldest is feeling better soon. Being in the hospital stinks and when your the healthy one it is down right boring. I just went through a week in the hospital myself and my poor mom was in your shoes.

  24. Dee says:

Roast garlic cloves and eat them [they are yummy] before heading outside. Bugs will avoid you.

  25. catslady says:

I was 4 or 5 when I had them out but can still remember (over 50 years ago)! Ice cream may cheer her up  Too bad you didn’t get a pic of that bug but I can see you were preoccupied lol.

  26. Erin E says:

If it makes you feel better I was attacked by a huge spider this morning, so I totally feel your pain.
