Just around the corner

August 19, 2009 | Filed under: Stuff

Coming to a store near you October 1 . . .

Here’s a little excerpt:

Danny let out a shuddery breath. Shuddery because he was a minute away from freezing his nuts off. When he’d flown out of Los Angeles that morning, it’d been sunny and a slightly chilly sixty-eight degrees.

Ha. He hadn’t known chilly. He hadn’t known a lot of things, such as how bad the rental car would be, or the depths of Hope’s worry and fear. He wrapped his coat tighter around him and pulled his hood back up before once again knocking on the door.

She didn’t answer, but he would have sworn he could hear her breathing through the wood. Hope, of the pretty strawberry blonde hair that was slipping out of its ponytail and into her eyes, which were so blue he could have drowned in them. Hope, of the petite, willowy frame that hid an inner strength of steel. That strength shouldn’t have surprised him, after all she was an O’Brien. “Come on, Hope. Let me in.”

More of her loaded nothing, and he sighed, shoving his hands in his pockets, hunching his shoulders against the wind as if that would help. Christ, why would anyone choose to live here? “Look, I should have called first, okay? But if I had, you wouldn’t have agreed to see me.”

As proven by the loaded silence.

“I realize you’d like me to just leave,” he said. And he’d love to do that. Hell, he missed LA already. He was wet and cold and hungry, and as far as he could tell there was no food in his immediate future. No four-star hotels either. Nothing but wide open spaces and the utter lack of civilization.

He was on a whole other planet. “I’ll freeze to death out here, Hope, you know that. You don’t want my death on your hands, do you?” Okay, stupid question. She’d welcome his death and stomp on his grave.

I love Christmas stories, but it sure feels weird to be thinking of Christmas when it’s 88 degrees out and snow is but a distant memory …

    although, I don’t want snow.
Or, I’d like only a few hours of snow – since I feel like I’m melting.

  3. Judy F says:

Oh this sounds good. I can’t wait.

I wouldn’t mind some cooler weather about now

  4. Michele says:

    Yay! Already pre-ordered:)

  5. Stacy ~ says:

Well, I do like fall, even though it’s so close to winter, and Oct is my b-day month, so even though I’m not really wanting winter to get here, I do want Oct to get hre so I can get this book!

  6. Laurie says:

Looking forward having this one in my hands! I know everyone will adore Danny and Hope!

As for snowy, winter weather, it sounds good now when we’re close to 90 degrees with humidity levels just as high, but I know when it makes an appearance we’ll be bitching about it!

  7. tennismom says:

I know you don’t want to tease us right? Cause that would make you like really mean right? No of course not LOL.

  8. Ashley says:

As is with all of your books, I can’t wait for the release date!

  9. Liza says:

Another October release for my birthday month. Adding to my TBB list now. I really can’t imagine snow right now either, but then again we don’t normally have snow at Christmas in middle TN anyway.

  10. sls-rainey says:

Snow I could use some snow, hey a new book to go with it. How…um..wel..COOL.

It’s very August in PA this week.

  11. Sabrina says:

Reading about snow is as close as I ever get. We think it’s arctic when it the temp drops below 60 down here. Maybe if I turn the AC cooler while I’m reading I’ll forget that it’s 105 outside with 90% humidity.

  12. trish c says:

I’m excited. This has been an excellent year for Jill Shalvis. lots of releases.

As for snow, just be grateful it is not here yet.
I have a hard time with 90 plus temps, but I really hate snow.

  13. Donna M says:

 You really just like to tease us! I am so not ready to even consider Christmas will come!! Yea, on another book for us to read. You have been working hard, we love all the good reading! Thanks.

Winter is my favorite season! Love the excerpt!

  15. D says:

Oh!!!!!, this almost makes fall coming something to look forward to. I’m absolutely loving all of our hot, sunny summer weather, my family says if I get any darker I’m going to have to change my ethnicity. Keep up the great work Jill, looking forward to all of your upcoming releases.

  16. Diana says:
