You know what never fails to touch me? The unwavering generosity and support I get from you guys. I got a box in the mail the other day, and when I looked inside, my heart stopped. Long-time blog reader Dru had hand quilted a pillow of Mountain Barbie.

Isn’t it gorgeous? Dru, it’s beautiful and thoughtful, and we are unbearably touched. The pillow sits on our bed, and every time I glance at it and see Mountain Barbie’s grin, it makes me smile.

(If any of you want to see some other quilts Dru has done, click here)

Now before you all go off to have a hopefully wonderful weekend, please tell us what you’re reading, and if you’re loving it.

  7. april says:

aw, that made me all misty-eyed.

I’m not actively reading anything, but I have Harry Potter by my bedside for a reread and Under Her Skin by Susan Mallery gets carried around with me. I’ve been big into Harlequin’s during this summertime reading ADD I get.

  8. Christina T. says:

Wow that is a beautiful pillow! I am reading Elisa Adams Dark Promises series. I am on a paranormal kick right however before this I read instant gratification and totally loved it.
    Have a great weekend!

  9. Jenn Clark says:

I just finished Double Play and really liked it. Now I am reading Ashes of Midnight by Lora Adrian. I have really enjoyed all of her midnight books.

  11. Fannie says:

What a thoughtful thing for Dru to do. You are a wonderful person, Dru. I found a couple of old books in our thrift store the other day. They are by Joan Wolf (of whom I have never heard). One is “Silverbridge” which is a contemporary and the other is “The Pretenders” which is a regency.Silverbridge was good and so far the Pretenders is also. Has anyone else read her books? Just wondering. Have a great day and hugs to all.

  12. Dee B. says:

This was beautiful and very thoughtful gift. I know that you will enjoy it forever. I am reading Instant gratification and thoroughly enjoying it.

  13. Lori says:

I just finished Scandalous by Jess Petersen and Butterfly Tattoo by Deidre Knight.

I’m getting ready to start Heartsick by Chelsea Cain. Not exactly a romance, but it satisfies my need for the grisly every now and again :)

  14. Denise says:

That was a very sweet gift!
I just finished Instant Gratification -which I loved and can’t wait for the next one. Now I am reading Sweet Persuasion by Maya Banks and then I am going to read Double Play.

  15. trish c says:

Wow! I would love to know how Drew did that. Beautiful. I would love to lean to quilt. I will have to get right on it. Maybe start with some books on the subject from the library.

I went to your site Drew and the rest of your quilts are gorgeous as well.

I am going to read Storm Watch this weekend. Went and bought it last night. Can’t wait to get started.

Oh and Jill, I love your tweet about the grass having to die. I laughed long and hard over that one!!!!

  16. D says:

Wow, what a beautiful pillow, I am always in awe of people who can do that. I’m lucky to sew buttons back on without needing a transfusion(I tend to poke myself in the finger….alot). Just starting Catherine Coulter’s Knockout.

  17. Liza says:

Dru, you did an amazing job.

I’m reading Kiss of the Phantom by Julie Leto. It’s the third and final book(for now) in her phantom series and I love it so far.

  18. Randi says:

Wow…great job, Dru. I don’t know how I could look at it quite yet without tearing up. I love my dog as if he was another child.

I just started Nora Roberts’ Vision in White. Not too far into it to know if I like it or not. Finished Under Her Skin by Susan Mallery and With a Twist by Deirdre Martin. Both good.

  19. Courtney says:

Ever since “Finger Lickin’ Fifteen,” I’ve been in a reading funk where nothing appeals to me-not even old stand bys like Linda Howard. I finished Stieg Larrsson’s “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” and it was ok.

  20. Donna M says:

What a wonderful, thoughtful gift from Dru. I bet it makes you smile every time you see it.

What am I reading? Recently I finished Julie Leto’s Kiss of the Phantom, very good. Currently I am reading The Soldier by Rhonda Nelson, a Blaze Uniformly Hot book. Also recently read Catherine Mann’s Hotshot & Samatha Hunter’s Hard to Resist, another Blaze. I am on a run of good reads! Can’t wait to go pick up your two new books.

    Everyone enjoy the weekend.

  21. Shannon McKelden says:

Oh, what a lovely gift! I actually gasped and then teared up. I know the Shalvis family will get a lot of comfort from it for years to come, Dru!

  22. Nicole S says:

Wow, that is really beautiful. Dru is very talented!

I’m currently reading Sheikh Boss, Hot Desert Nights by Susan Stephens. I’m really enjoying it.

  23. Brandy says:

Dru is extremely talented and one of the nicest people I have ever “met”. Her quilts are all gorgeous.

I’m reading A Case of Imagination by Jane Tesh. I have Burn to read up next, but don’t like all the comments I’m seeing regarding it.

  24. Allie says:

How sweet! That pillow is fantastic.

I am reading Stand-In Groom by Suzanne Brockmann and it’s cute so far. I’m also reading Hit Man by Lawrence Block and I adore Keller, but I can’t read it past about 8:00 p.m. or I dream people are chasing me.

  25. Dru says:

Thanks everyone. I wanted to do something to help Jill and I felt this would be the perfect remembrance.

I just finished reading Charmed and Dangerous by Toni McGee Causy and now reading the next book in the series, Girls Just Wanna Have Guns. I picked up Double Play by Jill.

  26. Darlene says:

Positively beautiful pillow! We are in awe :)

Just starting The Broker by John Grisham.

  27. Diana says:

    What a beautiful pillow!

I’m currently reading a YA book by Meg Cabot called Jinx. It’s pretty good so far.

  28. Carrie says:

I’m reading the third of the Wicked Years books: A Lion Among Men by Gregory Maguire. Not an easy read, but a phenomenally written one to say the least! I highly recommend his writing!

    Happy Friday! :)

  29. Sherry says:

I’m almost finished with Sophie Kinsella’s Twenties Girl. I could really see this as a movie.

  30. Marilyn Shoemaker says:

just recently finished the marvelous Susan Mallery’s Straight from the Hip, part of her Lone Star Sisters series. Have next Lisa Jackson’s Chosen to Die and Jane Porter’s Easy on the Eyes.

  31. Sylvia says:

I’ve read some Joan Wolf historicals. Good plot, IIRC.

Just finished Instant Attraction this afternoon and signed on to make sure there are sequels –YAY! This was my very favorite of the books I’ve read by you. The characters have so much depth and it’s neat how deftly you reveal their thoughts without losing the flow of the conversation. I also really appreciate your compassion and accuracy in showing how courageous Katie is in dealing with her PTSD. I am definitely recommending this book to all my friends!

I read Dodd’s Danger in a Red Dress yesterday and enjoyed how she tied two series together. Also read Carly Phillips’ Hot Property yesterday and started making my way through Corriher’s Bakewise, which has a truly amazing section of chocolate recipes. I was reading about pastry creams for the blueberry tarts I made today…

I have Colleen Thompson’s Triple Exposure in the pile, but it looks scary so I think I’ll read the latest Amanda Quick before bed instead. Always get great dreams from Krentz’s writing (except for one early book that still gives me nightmares — she writes TOO well sometimes!).

Dru’s quilting is wonderful. I like the photo layout and the background fabric is especially nice. What a treasure!

  32. Pat L. says:

Dru, how nice of you; the pillow is great. How ever did you get the pix? Were you able to get copies from the site to do this? I am technically and craft challenged.

I recently read Toni Blake’s One Reckless Summer,
Sherryl Woods Harbor Lights, Jill’s Double Play – wonderful, Deirdre Martin’s With a Twist – all v. g. reads. Am currently enjoying very much Susan Andersen’s Bending the Rules.

  33. Amanda says:

    The pillow is lovely Dru.

I’ve finished The Sugar Queen by Sarah Addison Allen, which was really enjoyable. Now reading Secrets by Freya North.

  34. Hélène says:

Dru. You couldn’t have picked a better picture as the centre piece to commemorate Mountain Barbie’s spirit. Your handmade gift is truly from the heart.

Just finished reading Rachel Gibson’a True Love and other disasters. Very entertaining & hot read.
    Next is Jill’s Double Play.
