I’m working. Am too.

June 26, 2009 | Filed under: Stuff

So I told everyone to leave me alone, I was going to the docks to work.

And I really did. I went to the docks.

But I didn’t work. I watched rocks.

And the duckies. They were cute.

But I wasn’t working. Even though I kept telling everyone who called me I was. And then Alpha Man stopped by and caught me counting clouds. “Where’s your stuff?” he asked.

Um.

“You’re all freaked out about your due book. I felt bad for you and I brought you your favorite.”

Which, by the way, is a MacDonald’s hot fudge sundae. I held out my hand for it and he shook his head. “Uh uh. This is for the freaked out writer working her fingers to the bone. I don’t see anyone who could go by that description.”

Dammit. I really hate it when I get caught.

I’ve lost all credibility.

(P.S. The Book Binge is giving away a copy of Instant Gratification, go check it out!)

Oh, sitting on the dock by the beautiful water, it looks heavenly. Wish that were my day. Have a great weekend!

  2. Judy F says:

I am so jealous. We had terrible storms last night have no elec at home.

    enjoy

  3. limecello says:

Awe… he didn’t *really* withhold the sundae, did he? Also I always love the pictures you post, and am incredibly jealous.

  4. Liza says:

You should have told him you were collecting your thoughts so you could get back to your deadline. Hope Alpha Man eventually gave you your sundae.

  5. tennismom says:

    Hey Jill
It looks like just what you needed. Peace.

  6. Ashley says:

Tell him even freaked out writers on deadline need a break, and to please hand over the sundae and keep them coming!

  7. SonyaM says:

I’m with Ashley. I’m sure you NEEDED a mental break to rest your creative talent.

  8. cursingmama says:

That wasn’t Not Working – writing involves a lot of thinking…..you were THINKING about the book weren’t you?

  9. Deb says:

Man, I don’t know where you live, but I want to move there. It is my deepest desire to live on water. Even just pictures of it make me feel peaceful.

  10. Allie says:

Oh dear. :) Well, the duckies are certainly cute. Not sure they are cute enough to lose a sundae over, though… ;-)

  11. Donna M says:

Love the pictures. Reminds me of all the beautiful places I saw in Oregon on my trip! It looks like you know the best place to work on your deadline. You must get a lot of inspiration there.

    Everyone enjoy the weekend.

  12. Armenia says:

With a view like that….I would count rocks, too.

  13. Susan says:

You needed to give your mind and fingers a break! ;-)

  14. Karin says:

    lol

Well, I can’t blame you. I’d be sitting there counting clouds and watching rocks instead of working as well.

  15. Brandy says:

You should have said you were plotting, in your head. *G* I hope he finally gave you your sundae!

  16. Laura says:

You’d think after this many years of being married to a writer, he’d recognize plotting when he saw it. He must’ve been having a rough day, poor guy. ;)

  17. Nicole says:

Busted! Well … have you explained to Alpha Man that the writing process is very intricate and that you were actually channeling your character’s thoughts and…? Hmmm. He probably wouldn’t buy that. Darn man.

But the duckies sure are cute. Maybe you were doing ducky research for an avian plot twist at the end! Would he buy that? ;-)

    Breathe… you’ll get it done.

  18. Fedora says:

What a thoughtful man! ;) Hope you got your sundae regardless–managing stress is a very important part of your job! :)

  19. Dru says:

I like your version of “work”.

  20. Edie says:

Just as a bit of a random post…
Can I just say Jill, you are an ebil, EBIL woman!
I stumbled across this blog on my usual procrastination run when halfway through my work.. four hours later and 3am in oz.. I am dragging myself away as I can find no matchsticks to hold the eyes open..
Why, oh why is there a need to be soo entertaining in your blog??

  21. Brandy says:

Just wanted to let you know Double Play is on the shelves at my local BAMM!
