I Love Lucy strikes again

February 25, 2009 | Filed under: Stuff

I’ve been after Alpha Man to finish a set of stairs in our house for . . . well, for what feels like forever. Since work has slowed down considerably for him, he finally got to it this week. This involved cutting the strips of wood, coming in and out of the house to measure each one, traipsing sawdust in throughout, along with the dirt from the dogs who follow his every move.

Yesterday when my scene wasn’t going along right, I sat on the top step to keep Alpha Man company. The top step isn’t really a step, it’s the wood flooring on the second floor, so I was out of the way. We teased and annoyed each other for awhile and then after him warning me that he was going to start rolling the sealant into the wood, I went back to work.

Several hours later, I was back. Another scene wasn’t working. I sank to the top step and watched him, noticing he was about 2/3 done. I was jealous, wishing I was 2/3 done with MY work. Alpha Man looked up and just stared at me. “Do you remember what I said about the sealant?” he finally asked.

Uh oh. “Yeah. You said you were going to start rolling. From that step down, right?” I asked, pointing to the step right below me.

He slowly shook his head, his eyes lighting with both frustration and laughter.

Dammit. I stood up, and sure enough, I’d left a nice . . . impression.

“Nice ass,” he said with a sigh. “Good thing, too, since everyone’s going to be able to see the imprint every time they walk up and down.”

He has to sand it out and start over. And if he doesn’t, then no one can come to my house ever again.
