Tahoe Snow

November 5, 2008 | Filed under: Stuff

Well I knew it was too good to be true — the unbelievably colorful, gorgeous autumn, so warm we were just in shorts the other day.

But then Mother Nature got her period. Or something. I woke up, grabbed the laptop and headed down the stairs toward the deck where I like to work.

Huh. What was with all that white stuff out the windows? I moved in for a closer look.

Yeah, not so warm anymore. Shocked, I opened the front door.

Houston, we have a problem. Autumn vanished. Winter took over. Even poor Mountain Barbie was confused. Last night she peed on the grass before going to bed. But now the grass was gone? WHERE WAS SHE SUPPOSED TO PEE?

And that pretty yellow tree I showed you last week? Well, it’s a different kind of pretty now, I suppose.

Poor Alpha Man, out there with the snow blower. In early November . . .

But the good news. Mountain Barbie remembered she loved the snow. Here she is fighting with her shadow. Hey, I never said she was the brightest crayon in the box.

  1. bonita says:

when that happens here, my pooch looks at as if to say…”No, Not this door, I want to go out the other door, the one that leads to autumn…”

  2. Sarita says:

We had almost a foot and a half of the white stuff last week and we were all gobsmacked. We do live in snowville but October is defintely way too early for snowblowing. Ours is nearly melted. Maybe yours will skedaddle soon too.

  3. Dru says:

Winter has arrived and I simply adore the antics of Mountain Barbie.

  4. Judy F says:

We have had weather in the 70′s this week, very strange for november here.

    MB is a doll.

  5. Stacy ~ says:

Like Judy, we’re having weather in the 70′s right now, and I’m loving it. I know it will end soon but until then, I’m in denial.

Oh MB is just too adorable for words.

  6. Jac says:

I’m so jealous of the snow! All we get up here in Maryland is freezing cold rain. I want snow. Send it to me, please!

  7. Liza says:

It has been in the 70′s during the day this week. I think there is a cold front moving in tomorrow, but no snow scheduled for TN(at least not my part of the state). I was in Gatlinburg last week and there was snow on the tops of the mountains already. Mountain Barbie is so funny.

  8. Melinda says:

    Wow. It’s beautiful there.

  9. Ashley says:

Pretty pics, but you can have all the snow, I don’t want any!!

  10. christa says:

eek someone need to give mother nature some Midol or chocolate or both

  11. Allie says:

Hee hee! My dogs also have that missing grass problem. But then after there is snow on the ground for a day or two (that’s all we get here!), they are wondering where the snow went. :)

  12. Elen says:

Jill — I think we have the same tree. http://tinyurl.com/57gquf

Gorgeous pics. Although it’s 66 here today — what’s up with that? — we’ll be looking like you in the not to distant future.

    Much cheer.

  13. sls-rainey says:

Wow, snow already! My Rainey loves snow and jumps around in it like a crazy dog.

  14. Victoria says:

You’re snow from yesterday has hit us here in Utah. It was warm all week and poof, there’s 2″ of snow on the ground. I am now asking myself why I moved to Salt Lake City when I should’ve moved to warm Cali!

  15. Amy says:

Mother Nature needs a good smack. Or some chocolate. Something to give her the warm fuzzies again.

Cripes. I’m dreading this winter, even though the Wooly Bear predicted a mild winter. I think he was lying.

  16. Brandy says:

You’re more than welcome to send some of that snow here! It’s in the 70′s here today. *sigh*

  17. Karin says:

I love the pictures, Jill. Personally, though, I’m very happy that snow is expected where I live today and tomorrow.

  18. Susan says:

We got 17 inches of the white stuff last week. It’s to early for winter! The dog doesn’t have a problem with the snow but the cats aren’t very happy.

  19. Heather says:

Ugh, that bites! We’ve had unseasonably warm weather in the 70s this week, but looks like your snow will hit here in the form of showers (rain/snow mix) by end of the week. I’m soooo not ready for winter.

  20. Tabitha C says:

I love the snow…when it’s still white and clean. It makes such a beautiful utopic scenery. But then I only like it until I have to shovel the snow off my car. Lol.

  21. jeanne says:

It’s beautiful as long as it’s not outside my door

  22. Cryna says:

Wow nice pictures, you got way more snow than we had over night…….but I fear that Autumn is gone and Winter has set in. Yesterday I told my parents I would blow the leaves from the backyard for them and was told “leave them, you can do them tomorrow”………now they are under snow……. :rotfl: Oh well maybe we will get a few nice days yet……one can always hope.

  23. Suzanne says:

I love the snow! It’s a little early for me, though, LOL.

  24. Donna M says:

The snow is lovely in the pictures. We have had rain which is much needed & no snow to shovel. We don’t have snow here which makes me appreciate your scenic pictures. Living in the stuff??? Doubt I could handle it at this stage in life. The very mild climate here does me just fine! Tomorrow we are suppose to be around 70! Today is just cloudy no rain that I’ve seen.

MB is funny, I bet watching her in the snow is fun! You inside warm & cozy, MB outside playing in the snow.

  25. limecello says:

The snow is gorgeous, but I’m glad its you, not me. I had snow last week, and I’m already done with it :P MB is so cute though! Awe. Today I got in my car and it said 72! So happy – but the bad news is its gonna get cold and rainy etc this wknd.

  26. Jane says:

    Wow, it’s so beautiful.

  27. Kathleen says:

We had 32 degrees one day last week and now we are back up to 75! Crazy weather. The snow will come soon enough :???:

  28. Diana says:

I am not looking forward to cold weather. I am already currently nursing a cold.
