Name That Scene

November 4, 2008 | Filed under: Stuff

Okay so I’m tired. And a little sick. And really, really tired . . . Instead of writing, I’m hanging on the couch with the pesky cat playing cards.

She’s winning.

This whole lying on the couch thing started out with the Halloween candy. I had a little binge. And then Alpha Man brought McDonalds home on his night to handle dinner, which is great. I used to live off of McDonalds, but lately I can’t eat it without wanting to die shortly after from a gut-ache. After going all year without a single french fry from there, I ate an entire Big Mac and supersized fry order.

By myself.

I’ve been lying on the couch whining “help me” to anyone who will listen ever since.

So while I lie here moaning and groaning, I thought maybe you could entertain me. Tell me your favorite scene from one of my books. Don’t worry about remembering the hero’s or heroine’s names, or even the book title. Heck, I can’t remember my own titles to save my life. Be totally vague if you only remember a tiny snippet. Just wondering what’s floated your boat, that’s all. If you can’t remember, or you haven’t read me, that’s okay, comment anyways and just say hey there. Or hi there. Or toodles. Or . . . you get the idea.

I’ll draw a random few names for a free book from my backlist, so start talking.

UPDATE:
Random.org picked #15 and #40 . . . so Carrie The Book Girl and Rebekka email me with your address and a few book choices!

  1. Sarita says:

Gotta be honest here. It’s too early for my brain to be engaged enough to remember what I wrote yesterday, let alone what anyone else wrote! Sad, but true.

But I do hope you feel better.

And how long did it take to teach that cat to play cards? Our cat just sleeps all day but now I’m thinking she might need a hobby…

  2. Judy F says:

I am with Sarita way to early to think plus I had a terrible nights sleep.

Maybe you can get the cat to do some online gambling make ‘em earn its keep.

    Hope you feel better.

  3. Diane W says:

Poor Jill! I am right there with you on the couch with a tummy ache. Only my “poison” is too many snack sized Milky Way bars. How could something so small cause so much discomfort? Could it be the half bag I consumed all at once while watching cable news last night?

My favorite scene in your books would have to be from Strong and Sexy when we are introduced to the character of Dani Peterson. Hair piled high on her head and held in place with two pencils, a broken heel on her shoe, and nearly running into a potted tree while attending a party for her mother…who could not love her and root for her? And how yummy is the character of Shayne? A great pairing!

  4. Stacy ~ says:

Favorite scene? Well, I can’t think of an exact one, but maybe Brody’s & Maddie’s first kiss. Talk about fireworks. If I didn’t like Maddie so much I’d kick her to the curb and take Brody for myself. Even liking her I still might do that. Brody’s one fine hottie ;)

  5. Jac says:

Aww, no fair talking about halloween candy. I just started a diet and would kill for a kit kat about now and don’t even get me started about french fries…

  6. StaceyB says:

My favorite was from Out Of This World when they just got off the plane and had to walk to her bed and breakfast….although their was a place where they realized not all is as it should be when they were in the forest…and…oh, there are too many. :)

  7. Laura says:

In your Get a Clue (I think that was the name of it), where the heroine was using the glow in the dark vibrator as her light source. :)

  8. Pat L. says:

Feel better. Yeah, the vibrator one was good but what about the shower scene – same book??? Pink cover???

  9. julie says:

Get a clue was my favorite. There’s no way to pick just one favorite scene. The hero was so hot!

  10. Sonya says:

My mind is racing for a favorite, but I don’t think I could choose one. Don’t make me chooose just one when I love all of them! Okay. The best I can do is say I did love every interaction Brody and Maddie had. Such strong characters. Well, and ALL of the firefighters series characters. And on and on and on…

  11. sls-rainey says:

I don’t think I have a favorite.. too many I like, but the descriptions during the hammock scene in Flashpoint stuck in my mind.

  12. Laurie says:

My fave still comes from SERVING UP TROUBLE – Sam and Angie in his truck and she’s frustrated by his lack of emotion – he says something like “You want me to think? To feel? I do all of those things for you, Angie. Only for you.” Of course he grabs her and kisses her passionately after that. Sigh. . .

  13. Amy M says:

My favorite book, which is full of so many great scenes that I can’t name just one, was
White Heat. It is one of your older books. Actually it was the first book I read by you, and I’ve been hooked ever since.

  14. Jen(aside) says:

My favorite book was the book about the girl who ran away from home and came to live with her aunt. Her aunt was having sex with the guy down the street.

My favorite scene from it is when he’s on the aunt’s front porch, sure that she has sent someone to snoop on him.

  15. Carrie - the book girl says:

The pink glow-in-the dark vibrator is the thing I remember the most. I was reading it in the hall at my child’s school while waiting for parent/teacher conferences. I laughed so loud a couple of teachers stuck their heads out of the door and I had to explain why I was laughing. A few of them wrote the title/author down, so that they could read it too.

  16. Sarah says:

My favorite scene… I think it’s Room Service?, where he steps onto the elevator, and pretends to know her, and kisses her. And he’s all black leather and badass… and she says she’d have his baby. lol
    Great H/h first meeting! :)

  17. Nancy B. says:

The splinter scene in THE TROUBLE WITH PARADISE, where the hero has to take a splinter out of the heroine’s tush. LOL, so funny.

  18. Shelly says:

My favorite is Seeing Red. When the heroine sees the hero for the first time since childhood, and he’s no longer a chubby, shy teen but this totally hot sexy fire fighter.

  19. Melinda says:

I love the closet scene with Dani and Shayne.

  20. Ashley says:

I have to go with the glo-vibe too in Get A Clue, that was the first book I read by you and it hooked me!! It was hilarious! And yes, everything about Superb & Sexy! Brody is my favorite. Bad boys rock! :wigglebrow:

  21. christa says:

Favourite scene it’s from Out of this World no wait it’s in The Trouble with Paradise no wait it’s in Free Fal no wait Her Sexiest Mistake no wait in Strong and Sexy (sigh) can’t pick right now. I’ll get back to you.
    Hope you feel better soon.

  22. Gail says:

Aussie Rules, when the hero steps out of the plane and she’s watching his feet, then his legs, then his . . . I loved that he was an Aussie.

  23. kim h says:

love the scene in get a clue where teh herione sees teh hero in the shower, one of the best book whooo

    go vote 08

  24. cheryl c. says:

Sorry you’re not feeling well! :yuck:

My favorite scene is from the story Perilous Waters in the Men of Courage II anthology. I love the closing scene with Leah and Wyatt by the lake at Wyatt’s house. It was so sweet. Sigh…

  25. Dana Arnold says:

Definitely the day-glo vibrator scene. That was too funny!!!

Hope you are feeling better. I’ve stuck with pretzels so for this morning, but that bowl of Halloween candy has been calling my name. :wigglebrow:

  26. Gwen says:

Danny from Aussie Rules. I know he was only a secondary character but you gave him one of my favorite love stories. Bad girl Dimi. LOVED them both, they broke my heart.

  27. Karin says:

Trying to pick a favorite scene is really difficult, Jill, since there are so many fabulous ones. As some others have mentioned, the scenes with the day-glo vibrator in GET A CLUE were really hilarious. However, my favorite scenes (yes, plural) come from SHADOW HAWK since it was the first of your books I ever read and definitely holds a spot in my heart.

Anyway, to choose my most favorite scene for Abby and Hawk, it has to be a tie between: (1) the scene where she first saw him with his shirt off and dropped a bite of her salad onto her skirt and (2) the scene when the bad guy is holding her at gun point and she looks right at Hawk, on his perch in a really tall pine tree when he’s afraid of heights, and mouths that she loves him.

  28. Brandy says:

Get a Clue will probably always be my favorite book by you and there are too many great scenes in that one to choose. The Trouble With Paradise is another fav, with her tripping on the pier and spraining her ankle. *G*

  29. Rowena says:

    I want some McDonald’s. *sigh*

As for my favorite, I just finished Get a Clue and I’ve got to say that first meeting between Cooper and Breanne damn near made me piss myself, I was laughing so much. I mean, she was holding a pink vibrator and then she dropped it and ran. Oh the hilarity!

I’m reading Smart and Sexy (started it last night) and I’m loving the whole holding Noah up with a big fat Big pen, I had myself a good laugh at that one too.

  30. Susan says:

I think that you know that ‘Get a Clue’ is my absolute favorite book to read when I feel down. That scene with the glowing pink vibrator always makes me laugh.

Feel better soon! I think Sadie might be cheating.

  31. Amy says:

You know, I always feel like that when I fall off the food wagon, too.

Hugs. Hope you feel better soon.

I think the cat is cheating. They’re sneaky like that.

  32. Donna M says:

There are so many good ones to choose!! Since you are one of my top favorite authors I love your books. Some favorites are Out of this World, loved the humor, Shadow Hawk, Room Service, earlier books Seduce Me, White Heat, Blue Flame & Seeing Red were all good with some great scenes in them. You just can’t go wrong with a Jill Shalvis book.

That is all true but I hope it cheered you up some. I didn’t say it just to make you feel better. I do hope you feel better soon.

Are you getting snow, or did you get snow?

I hope everyone has voted or will very soon.

  33. Jane says:

I can’t remember the exact scene, but one of my favorite scenes is when the heroine and hero are in a closet. I think the closet housed some videos.

  34. Jill says:

Okay this was way too much fun for me, revisiting scenes I hadn’t thought about in a long time. THANK YOU.

  35. Joyce says:

My favorite was the power failure and the heroine used the pink vibrator for a light.

  36. Victoria says:

I loved The Trouble with Paradise. She trips and sprains her ankle and gets splinters in her butt and spends a good portion of the boat trip pretending that it felt okay. That character is a lot like me. Always tripping on things and pretending I’m ok. It’s great. Get a Clue was probably the funniest book I’ve ever read. I mean, it started with the girl walking into her room to find a hot, naked man in her shower!

  37. Cryna says:

Sorry you have been under the weather – but I know what you mean about a gut ache from McDonalds. I cannot eat their food without getting one either. So I usually eat the salads when I go there for any reason. But I really try to avoid them…..

As for my favourite scene I love your writing and have a hard time to narrow down to one particular scene, there is always a scene or two in your books that come to mind or just pop into your mind and bring a smile to me.

  38. Diana says:

The scene in Aussie Rules where Bo and Mel see each other for the first time after many years apart was pretty electrifying.

  39. Zara says:

Oh wow, there are so many good ones, but I think it was in HER SEXIEST MISTAKE, the scene up against a tree, I LIKED! And yes, GET A CLUE was the funniest book ever! I too loved the pink day glo vibrator scenes. Then in AUSSIE RULES, every scene with Bo and Mel! :bananadance:

  40. Rebekka says:

Anything with Maddie. I love your headstrong female characters and the intense attraction that they arouse in the fellas around them.

  41. Tabitha C says:

Hi there, hope you feel better sooner than later. I’ve been sick almost non-stop since July and I’m sick and tired (pun intended) of being sick :) .

I just purchased one of your books through Amazon, can’t wait to receive and read it!

  42. Leah says:

Okay, but first, I am totally with you on McDonalds. I never ate it regularly, but when I really wanted a good binge, it was my fave. However, now it kills me … dead! But it’s sooo good.

My favorite is from Get a Clue when the twin girl does animates the guy having a heart attack and falling to the floor. So funny and such a relief when I thought all of those people were about to kill the policeman. (Sorry, it’s been too long for me to remember all of their names.)

Feel better. Drink lots of water when you can and take some Tums. That always helps me. :)

  43. Linda says:

    Jill,

I just started reading Smart and Sexy and love the scene when the landing gear is stuck and Noah tells Bailey he’s seens a guy fix it a couple of times. I can totally put myself in Bailey’s shoes. I am not a good flyer. However, I might be if I had a pilot like Noah at the controls. :lol

  44. Caffey says:

Hi Jill!!! I had something greasy yesterday and remembered today that my insides just can’t tolerate that. I’ve always been a bland eater so I have been laying around as well today! I hope you feeling better by the morning!

I love reading and I’m bad with remembering titles and more and then I re-read and say remember this, remember that! :rotfl: This is going to be a question of ‘name that book’ for me, LOL. I know it has a sheriff in it (one of my favorites to read!) Its either a Temptation or Blaze, I don’t think it was a single title book. (It was hot :relieved: ) But I remember she’s on the run or a bad past, like sad difficult one, and he was just so a great hero! I’m not good at remembering scenes. Yep they come back to me when I remember more and more of the book!

Hey I tried to register to vote for your blog and that site still not working (just goes to a blank page and no registration happens. I’ll keep trying!)

  45. Caffey says:

P.S. I don’t know if its my computer or what, but I tried to go to your links for your earlier books to try to find out which book it might have been and they were taking me to a weird site. LOL

  46. limecello says:

Ok – cop out- but I love love loved all Maddie/Brody scenes, from the first Sky High book, to their actual story. Definitely one of my favorite couples.

  47. ReadingIsSoMuchFun says:

Hi Jill  I am sorry to hear you are sick. I hope you get to feeling better very soon. Being  sucks. Aww your cat is so adorable love the picture. I would love to be entered for your giveaway thank you.

    Hugssss
    LindaH

  48. jeanne says:

I was busy with the elections yesterday but I too have to go with the vibrator in Get a Clue (still my favorite book of yours).

Hey can you teach me how to get my cats to play cards with me lol.

I can’t remember when I had fast foods (take out yes but just not McD’s or BK etc.) I also have to say last year I started eating Activia yogurt and my stomach never rebels when I misbehave (chicken wings come to mind).

  49. Nicolette says:

I ate too much halloween candy and junk this last week also. I love your blog by the way, i always get a nice chuckle from reading it.
