Eternally Puppy
November 1, 2008 | Filed under: Stuff
It started out with a phone from Alpha Man. “Honey, there’s this puppy . . .”

Everyone but me wanted her. And then I saw her tongue.

Izzy, aka Mountain Barbie came home. She ate her own poop, she ate the cat’s poop, but her favorite deli snack? Bear poop. She rolled in it with sheer abandon and joy whenever I turned my back.

She dug holes. She ate shoes. She pulled out all the toilet paper and tee-peed my house. I whined and complained and threatened and cajoled, and Alpha Man begged me to give her some more time. She’ll grow up, he kept saying.

And then the funniest thing happened. She wormed her way into my heart. Not sure how that happened, especially since she still has an affinity for poop and enjoys destroying my house. But damn if I don’t love that ridiculously annoying pup with all my heart.

Happy first birthday, Mountain Barbie. All you need now is to learn HOW TO COME WHEN I CALL YOU.

Isn’t it great how they find a way into the heart? And how the heart stretches to accomodate them?
Happy Birthday!

Awww.that is so sweet. Is she getting a cake? My daughter and I actually made a “cake” for our pup when he was little (he is now 6). It was a large burger patty with Happy Birthday written on it with “squirt cheese”. :rotfl:
:bananadance: Today is November 1st. I can buy “Heating up the Holidays” on eHarlequin. I so need something to make me feel better.

Please give Izzy a big hug from me. I hope she has a lovely birthday – preferably with no poop!!!
My beloved retriever, sadly no longer with us, never really grew up either. But you couldn’t help but love her, and her ever-wagging tail, to pieces.
As for coming when called, you know what they say about gun dog breeds:-
When their noses open, their ears close!!!
Love,

Mountain Barbie is such a cutie! Happy First Birthday Izzy!
BTW, they always eat gross stuff, at least my dad’s 9 year old lab does.

Our dog is 12 years old and still loves to roll in poop. :fryingpan: Turkey poop is the worst, it really stinks! :yuck:

Wow! She’s beautiful! I love dogs but don’t ever want to own one for all those reasons you mentioned. Plus it’d be like having another kid! Ugh. But I have a feeling, one of these days, I’ll give in and things’ll never be the same again. Oh, and how much do I love that name? It did take me reading a few posts the other day to figure out who it was, though!

The pup is so cute. My lab/chow who sadly passed about a year ago also rolled in the grossest stuff. Ugh! :yuck:
Good luck with your book. :bananadance:

I actually forgot her real name was Izzy :rotfl: I fall in love with animals immediately which is why I don’t dare volunteer at our rescue league. I currently have 6 inside cats and am totally attached to my outside ferals/strays. Happy Birthday Mountain Barbie!!!!

Awe, Happy birthday, Mountain Barbie!
I … really would not be ok with the poop thing. [Everything else I could work on.] I think.

I am so not okay with the poop thing, trust me. But she insists that poop is where it’s at. And I’m wondering if I could say poop any MORE times today…

Happy Birthday, MB……..she is so cute. Hard to believe such a little thing could grow so big in just a year.
Yes the December books can now be ordered from eharlequin now so that is cool. Oh and I got my copy of To All A Good Night in the mail on Monday from Chapters so the books are now shipping in Canada (thank goodness)…….Have a great weekend!!

LOL! God makes them cute so we don’t kill ‘em! It could be worse. My lab mix ate the central air unit, and she and our german shepherd roll around in blood and guts… after littering the yard with bird and rat carcasses. We just have to live next to a ditch where all kinds of “snacks” live.

Hi Jill! I stopped by your website to see if you have ANYTHING new coming out (having just read your piece in the Christmas anthology) and I saw your sweet poochie…I have a yellow Lab (we had puppies with her a couple of years ago which was amazingly insane of us but darn, they’re so cute!) and a crazy dingo dog (ish). My lab eats any poop she can get her tongue on. Her breath is so repulsive, and worse still, I swear she SWEATS poop. It’s to the point that when she comes near to lick us we have to block her unless we want nasty saliva that reeks trailing our flesh…
Posted on November 3rd, 2008 at 11:44 ammeantime, get some more books out for us!!!

Happy belated birthday! Aren’t dogs great? We have one that we got when he was just six weeks old. My daughter was almost 2. Now my daughter’s 14, and that dog still doesn’t realize he’s a dog.
Our other dog was a stray wandering our neighborhood when we took him in. He’s all dog. And he knows it. And he doesn’t care.
