Eternally Puppy

November 1, 2008 | Filed under: Stuff

It started out with a phone from Alpha Man. “Honey, there’s this puppy . . .”

Everyone but me wanted her. And then I saw her tongue.

Izzy, aka Mountain Barbie came home. She ate her own poop, she ate the cat’s poop, but her favorite deli snack? Bear poop. She rolled in it with sheer abandon and joy whenever I turned my back.

She dug holes. She ate shoes. She pulled out all the toilet paper and tee-peed my house. I whined and complained and threatened and cajoled, and Alpha Man begged me to give her some more time. She’ll grow up, he kept saying.

And then the funniest thing happened. She wormed her way into my heart. Not sure how that happened, especially since she still has an affinity for poop and enjoys destroying my house. But damn if I don’t love that ridiculously annoying pup with all my heart.

Happy first birthday, Mountain Barbie. All you need now is to learn HOW TO COME WHEN I CALL YOU.

Isn’t it great how they find a way into the heart? And how the heart stretches to accomodate them?

    Happy Birthday!

  2. Kris says:

    Happy Birthday Izzy!!

  3. Cheryl M. says:

Happy Birthday Mountain Barbie! My Lab is turning 3 in a few weeks~ and he still doesn’t always come when called, LOL. He doesn’t eat poop though, just rocks!

  4. Ang says:

Awww.that is so sweet. Is she getting a cake? My daughter and I actually made a “cake” for our pup when he was little (he is now 6). It was a large burger patty with Happy Birthday written on it with “squirt cheese”. :rotfl:

:bananadance: Today is November 1st. I can buy “Heating up the Holidays” on eHarlequin. I so need something to make me feel better.

  5. Margaret McDonagh says:

Please give Izzy a big hug from me. I hope she has a lovely birthday – preferably with no poop!!!

My beloved retriever, sadly no longer with us, never really grew up either. But you couldn’t help but love her, and her ever-wagging tail, to pieces.

As for coming when called, you know what they say about gun dog breeds:-

When their noses open, their ears close!!!

    Love,
    Mags xx

  6. Pat L. says:

Those photos are so cute. Happy Bday, Izzy. Poop huh, did she throw up?

  7. Judy F says:

AH Happy birthday Izzy. Enjoy being one.

  8. Liza says:

Mountain Barbie is such a cutie! Happy First Birthday Izzy!

BTW, they always eat gross stuff, at least my dad’s 9 year old lab does.

  9. Jill says:

Really, HEATING UP THE HOLIDAYS is shipping? Cool beans. I’ll come back later with a link for those of you who want to buy it! Or you can search for it at eharlequin.com or Amazon or BN …

  10. Suzanne says:

Good luck with that, LOL. She IS cute!

  11. Elen says:

Aw. Mountain Barbie and Gracie Allen could be best friends forever. Can Mountain Barbie come to Canada and play? Huh? Huh? Happy Birthday Miss Izzy.

  12. Susan says:

    Happy Birthday Mountain Barbie!

Our dog is 12 years old and still loves to roll in poop. :fryingpan: Turkey poop is the worst, it really stinks! :yuck:

  13. Jamy says:

Wow! She’s beautiful! I love dogs but don’t ever want to own one for all those reasons you mentioned. Plus it’d be like having another kid! Ugh. But I have a feeling, one of these days, I’ll give in and things’ll never be the same again. Oh, and how much do I love that name? It did take me reading a few posts the other day to figure out who it was, though!

  14. Allie says:

Aww! What a cutie. :) Happy Birthday, Mountain Barbie! :)

  15. cheryl c. says:

MB has wormed her way into my heart, too!

  16. trish says:

Heating up for the Holidays is out????? I am going looking. Can’t wait to read that one.

The pup is so cute. My lab/chow who sadly passed about a year ago also rolled in the grossest stuff. Ugh! :yuck:

Good luck with your book. :bananadance:

  17. jeanne says:

I actually forgot her real name was Izzy :rotfl: I fall in love with animals immediately which is why I don’t dare volunteer at our rescue league. I currently have 6 inside cats and am totally attached to my outside ferals/strays. Happy Birthday Mountain Barbie!!!!

  18. Brandy says:

Happy First Birthday Izzy! (AKA Mountain Barbie! *G*)

  19. Hélène says:

    Happy Birthday Izzy! :bananadance:

  20. limecello says:

Awe, Happy birthday, Mountain Barbie! :P I … really would not be ok with the poop thing. [Everything else I could work on.] I think.

  21. Jill says:

I am so not okay with the poop thing, trust me. But she insists that poop is where it’s at. And I’m wondering if I could say poop any MORE times today…

  22. Jane says:

Happy Birthday, Mountain Barbie. Love the cute pics.

  23. Karin says:

    Happy Birthday, MB!

    Love the pictures, Jill.

  24. Cryna says:

Happy Birthday, MB……..she is so cute. Hard to believe such a little thing could grow so big in just a year.

Yes the December books can now be ordered from eharlequin now so that is cool. Oh and I got my copy of To All A Good Night in the mail on Monday from Chapters so the books are now shipping in Canada (thank goodness)…….Have a great weekend!!

  25. Crystal-Rain Love says:

LOL! God makes them cute so we don’t kill ‘em! It could be worse. My lab mix ate the central air unit, and she and our german shepherd roll around in blood and guts… after littering the yard with bird and rat carcasses. We just have to live next to a ditch where all kinds of “snacks” live.

  26. christa says:

She may not come when called but she will remeber your scarf. Happy Birthday Izzy “Mountain Barbie” Thanks for the trip down memory lane

Yup I put Home for the Holidays in me cart at eharlequin yesterday P.S not only can you find it under Blaze but under their Sexy Studs special.

  27. christa says:

oops  Heating up the Holiday. It’s also in the Christmas Corner and the cover is displayed on the home page under “Book with the Sexiest Men”

  28. Diana says:

    Happy birthday, Izzy!

  29. Kate Hardy says:

Happy (belated) birthday, Izzy! And thanks for sharing those gorgeous pics. You’ve made me go all broody. (Just as well Mags and I are planning a litter of puppies in some linked books we’re doing…)

  30. sls-rainey says:

    Happy belated b-day Izzy.

Um Jill my little demon…oops girl is two. She still doesn’t come when I call. If she does she stands just out of reach. :wall:

  31. Devon Ellington says:

She’s so adorable. Happy birthday to her.

  32. jenny gardiner says:

Hi Jill! I stopped by your website to see if you have ANYTHING new coming out (having just read your piece in the Christmas anthology) and I saw your sweet poochie…I have a yellow Lab (we had puppies with her a couple of years ago which was amazingly insane of us but darn, they’re so cute!) and a crazy dingo dog (ish). My lab eats any poop she can get her tongue on. Her breath is so repulsive, and worse still, I swear she SWEATS poop. It’s to the point that when she comes near to lick us we have to block her unless we want nasty saliva that reeks trailing our flesh…
meantime, get some more books out for us!!!

  33. Rowena says:

Awwww that is this is the cutest thing I’ve seen all day.

    (((((Mountain Barbie))))))

  34. Lynn Daniels says:

Happy belated birthday! Aren’t dogs great? We have one that we got when he was just six weeks old. My daughter was almost 2. Now my daughter’s 14, and that dog still doesn’t realize he’s a dog.

Our other dog was a stray wandering our neighborhood when we took him in. He’s all dog. And he knows it. And he doesn’t care.
