How high can you go? Middle, you’re up first. No pun intended . . .

Pretty high, my Middle. But guess what? For all your posturing, your dad, the guy who taught you to walk, to ski, to wakeboard . . . he has you beat. How high can you go, Alpha Man, show us . . .

(sorry the pic is so small, this one wasn’t taken by my camera . . .)
Yeah, he got pretty darn high for an old dude, but still, someone beat him. Oldest? Take it away . . . .

Yikes, she got up there. Now you might have noticed that you don’t see me or Youngest out there. Why? Because we’re not insanely competitive like the other insane people in our family, and we are rather fond of our limbs, thank you very much.
On another note, Oldest leaves for UCLA in seven days. Let the grieving begin. Nothing will help, nothing I tell you.
Except cookies. I think that will help tremendously. In case you were wondering . . .

Great pictures. I am sure cookies might help…. I know you will miss her.

Looks like fun, but since I’m a klutz, I’d be safely in the boat, thank you very much.
Aw Jill {{{hugs}}} Your girl will be home again soon, but I know it’s hard for you guys. At least she didn’t go all the way across country, if that helps any. And she’ll do great. I’m sure you have much to be proud of with her.

I would have stayed in the boat too.
Hope the cookies help Jill. My oldest niece goes away to college next year, and I’m already having trouble with it.

It wouldn’t be safe for me to try that.
I’m all black and blue and briar scratched on dry land.
I tried to push my dog into a creek. It was muddy.
Guess who went into the creek, over a bank.
(sigh) At least I had a couple of friends there to pull me out, the bank was steep and very slick.
Which also means there were six witnesses as well.

I want to own that log home on the shore behind Alpha Man. That place looks sweet!

Congrats Oldest on beating dear ole Dad and Middle and good luck at UCLA.
Poor Jill, I’m sending you cyber cookies.

Elizabeth, every single time we’re on the lake, and that’s just about every day, Alpha Man and I look at each other and say “I wish we had a house on the lake.” That’s a BIG someday . . .

Oh, there’s no way I’d be behind the boat. Some days, you’re lucky you get me on a boat at all. My parents have a house on a mountain. They chose a townhouse on the mountain rather than lakeside though they have lake privileges. So, they’re happy all year round. They’d rather ski than boat (considering they don’t have a boat – they share a neighbor’s).
As for 7 days… my mom is still scared from when I went to college and we’re talking 15 years ago. She’ll cry just talking about it. She used to have a calendar with days circled when she’d see me again and cross off each day. This furthers my younger sister’s opinion that mom loves me more. Well, duh.

Meant to add that I read Trouble in Paradise (or with Paradise?) Titles always confuse me. So cute and the perfect book this past weekend as we suffered hurricane effects.

So sorry about your daughter… It’s tough but just be glad she’s going to college. I wish I had been that smart! I don’t have kids but I know it was really tough when my oldest niece started kindergarten. I can’t imagine how it’ll be when she goes to college. And she better! Our family has a hard time with continuing our education. So tell your daughter good luck and I really hope the cookies work for you!

Oldest might have lost the tennis match but she sure out did Alpha Man with that jump!
Sending you big bear hugs.

That looks way to dangerous to me who would be under the water and not able to jump up like that. I would rather watch from the shore. Safest – I am such a non athletic person.
I know it is going to be hard on you when your daughter leaves. Not sure cookies is really going to cut it – but hope it works some for you.

Wow! I’m impressed by those pictures. You wouldn’t get me to try that!! Not a real smart thing for a lady my age that can’t swim!!
That said I did water ski many years ago. It was fun, but I was much, much younger & probably not so smart!!
Posted on September 8th, 2008 at 12:07 pmIs that Donner Lake? I’ve seen some of those home many years ago. Cabins? I thought I’d like to have one of them!!
Jill, you will be fine when daughter leaves for college. Instead of dwelling on her leaving just be proud of what she has accomplished and what an adventure she is going to have. She also sets a great example for middle & youngest.

Wow, I bow down to your daughter’s wakeboarding greatness. Have you seen Brooke Hogan Knows Best when she goes on that wakeboarding date and eats it each and every time she’s out on the water? That’s totally me. And I had such high hopes of joining a wakeboarding team cause it couldn’t be that hard? But boy was I wrong.
*sigh*
..and woo hoo, UCLA is near me, I can totally spy on the oldest if you want! haha. I’ll go down to UCLA even though I’m a Trojan girl at heart! =)

Cool!! I would totally be in the boat taking pics as well. I am a watcher not a wakeboarder.
Posted on September 8th, 2008 at 12:29 pmI am so not looking forward to my kids going to college.
Brandy says:
See, I’d be in the boat, too. *g*
Posted on September 8th, 2008 at 1:57 pmDid I tell you I have a recipe for home-made ‘Nilla Wafers? *g* I’m glad I have years before my kids go to college. Hugs.
Karin says:
Love the pictures. I have an extra box of cookies for you to help you deal with Oldest going away to college.

I’m so jealous of that – but if I tried I’d die.

Jill, will it just be you and Alpha Man dropping off Oldest at UCLA? I still remember my parents dropping my sister and me off at college. We attended the same university, so it was nice to have my sister around. I didn’t even realize my parents had left until I tried looking for them. I remember being bummed that they hadn’t said goodbye.
Maybe they did, and I just didn’t hear them.

I so feel your grief about your daughter going to college. My daughter doesn’t go to till next year, and I am bracing myself now for it since I am single and she’s my only. Actually, ninth grade hit me pretty hard. Letting them go to fly on their own just plain sucks. Something that has helped me even now as my daughter spends more time with her friends is to spend more time with friends and family. I have a best friend whose son is in college this year, and we hang together on weekends when our kids are out. We also go to as many of their activities as we can. Our kids are both cheerleaders.
Posted on September 9th, 2008 at 9:18 amBy the way, I am so excited that you are sending me the books with the new hot covers!!! My SASE is on the way. Thank you so much!!!!
