A Day Off

September 4, 2008 | Filed under: Stuff

When I’m in the middle of a book, especially towards the end of one like I am now, I don’t take a day off until I finish. I can’t because I’m OCD that way, and because if I do, I’ll lose my place and that’s never pretty and involves a lot of cookies.

But this past weekend I took a day off and we made the most of it. We had a birthday and a cake with blue frosting, and Youngest couldn’t resist:

Nor Middle:

We dragged people behind the boat. Hi Middle! Stop doing those jumps, do you hear me? Your ticker might be the one with the official problems, but mine takes a good hard leap every time you jump that wake. Stop it, I said!

We brought Mountain Barbie.

There’s something about the way she dorkily and crazily leaps off with such unabashed SHEER JOY. Just try to be grumpy and watch her jump off a dock sometime. I dare ya.

It can’t be done, I’m telling you.

God, she’s sweet. And always good for entertainment purposes. Plus, if you have someone with you who doesn’t want to get their hair wet, it’s lots of fun when the dog climbs back onto the dock and sprays everyone with lake water. Yeah. Good times.

So. What do you enjoy doing on your day off?

Look, insomnia reins and I still can’t sleep.

well, since I’m not sleeping and today isn’t my day off, I’ll think about tomorrow. So what am I going to do on my day off? Sleep!

Looks like you had a lot of fun!!!

  2. Judy F says:

I like to lay on the couch and read when I can. Your day off looks like fun

  3. Ewa says:

sleeping is highly appreciated in this house…

  4. Stacy ~ says:

That looks like a fun time. And Mountain Barbie is adorable. I love that she sprays people who don’t want to get wet. My response - stay away from the freakin’ water!

Another day in paradise (aka work). Somedays it’s not all it’s cracked up to be. I wanna read instead.

  5. Kris says:

Looks like you had fun :bananadance:

I like to spend time with my kids and/or relax and read.

  6. sls-rainey says:

The perfect day off -hiking in the mountians with my dog to a shady area near water and sit and read. Barring that I sit out in the yard and read with her. It’s just not the same.

I don’t know why but, reading is better with great surroundings.

  7. Liza says:

I love to read on my day off and then take a long afternoon nap.

  8. Ashley says:

On my days off I spend time with my son and read when he gives me breaks!

  9. Fannie says:

I read, visit blogs, go shopping and watch TV. This is what I do everyday. I am retired and disabled so I am limited in what I can do. BTW, who had a birthday? Belated wishes to them. Have a great day and hugs to all.

  11. Fannie says:

 sorry for the double post. My mouse is acting squirrelly and does that sometimes.

  12. Diana says:

I like to read in bed on my days off.

  13. Heather Harper says:

Read in bed. Catch up on DVR shows.

  14. naomi says:

Love the blue icing. Very smurf-like. :)

On my days off, which are few and far between it seems, I try to curl up on our couch with a good book, a pot of tea and some nice music. Or, if there aren’t any books I’m reading, I’ll watch a movie.

If I’m feeling really ambitious I’ll take a drive, do some shopping or get together with friends. Most of the time I enjoy the chance to be alone with no agenda. That doesn’t happen often in my day-to-day life.

  15. Donna M says:

Since I have been moving for what seems like forever I would love a day off!! As of last night I’m done, done, done at the old place! :bananadance: Now I have to sort through all this stuff that I moved, see what really works here & do I really need it. Saturday I start a dog/house sitting job!! Insane! The timing just worked that way. I can’t wait to get settled in some more here.

Love the pictures of the blue frosting & Mountain Barbie. It is so much fun to watch a dog go for the water. Such joy & pleasure!! Thanks for sharing.

By the way, like Fannie I’m retired so I guess everyday is a day off!!

  16. Jill says:

I still have to name the winners from the contest from the other day, and I promise to get to that today soon as I get my pages done.

  17. Suzanne says:

How long did her tongue stay blue? My daughter does stuff like that all the time!

  18. Karin says:

I try to avoid blue frosting because I don’t like ending up with a blue tongue, like Middle. Cake, though, is definitely good.

My day off for labor day was spent going to a baseball game with my parents and then taking them to dinner for my mom’s birthday. Other days I have off are usually just spent relaxing and reading, unless I have a planned vacation.

  19. limecello says:

Great post - and I love the pics. As for my day off… if I ever get one, I generally spend it trying to recover.

  20. Brandy says:

A day off? Um, I like to read, but don’t get many days off. *G*

  21. Slick says:

Now that’s my kind of day off!!

Unfortunately, it’s been too long since I had one!

  22. Cryna says:

When I get time to do something for myself, it is generally read or a jigsaw puzzle. I also like to play a few games on the computer but seldom get the chance for that. :???:

Your day looks like a fun time, and I can imagine how much fun Moutain Barbie is to watch…..

  23. Susan says:

Every day is my day off. :rotfl:

  24. Dru says:

I like to curl up on my recliner with a good book.
