So I’m going on a reading kick and want to know what’s floating your boat lately. I just finished in quick succession Sweet Talk by Susan Mallery (which was excellent), More Than Friends by Maureen Child (also most excellent) and The Education of Mrs. Brimley by Donna MacMeans (my first historical in a long time and it was a nice surprise). Next up, Tribute, by my favorite, Nora Roberts.
Now you? What are you reading? I’d love to hear what you’re LOVING, as I am looking for recommendations.
Oh, and as incentive to make you like me, I’ll be drawing names from the commenters and giving away books. So let’s hear from ya!

I would like to recommend any book of Orhank Pamuk, Ryszard Kapuscinski or Doris Lessing.

I was going to recommend “Just One of the Guys” by Kristin Higgins, but it’s been done and then I was going to recommend “Sweet Talk” but realized that you had already read that. I seen a recommendation for “Cutting Loose” by Susan Andersen and since I want that book that was nice to see that somebody’s recommending it. As far as what I’m reading right now, I am totally addicted to HQ’s Nascar line. Two books come out every month or so and they are all well written and a quick HEA read. Love that in a book. I also read this book by an author named Jill Shalvis called “Flashback” excellent.
Posted on August 28th, 2008 at 5:45 amElen says:
At the top of my bedroom pile is Christina Dodd – Into the Flame, Nora Roberts – Tribute. As it happens, Jill, I’m just about to begin your Strong and Sexy. lol And, tapping my fingers waiting for JoAnn Ross – Crossfire.
Does anyone reread? I spent part of the summer rereading some Elizabeth Peters. I love her Vicki Bliss mysteries.

I am going thru what I beleive is my thousands of books (may be less, doesn’t seem like it) and trying to pull out the don’t likes and doubles. I just re-read Catherine Anderson’s Phantom Waltz. I liked this Kendrick/Coulter series in small doses. This month I caught up on Shadow Hawk and the 2 Flash books. I’m starting fractured by Karin Slaughter. I’ll read that with in a day or two and then be hunting thru the old pile to re-read some more. I find myself re-reading the series by Justine Carey alot, and the young adult series by Tamora Pierce. I could keep going. I love books!
Posted on August 28th, 2008 at 5:50 amMargaret McDonagh says:
I’ve just finished the latest in the magical village series by CHRISTINA JONES. Called HAPPY BIIRTHDAY, it has all the wonderful warmth, humour, emotion and superb cast of characters you always get with Christina’s books. Some appearances by favourite characters but plenty of new ones. Brilliantly eccentric, laugh-out-loud funny, people you wish were your friends, and just leaves you feeling contented and longing for her next book. A must read. (This series started with Hubble Bubble but each book stands alone, although more fun if you read them in order. Same as her previous stupendous run of books which began with Going The Distance.) I cannot recommend these highly enough. I just wish I had a fraction of her talent.
I have Flashpoint and Flashback on the top of my TBR pile as a lure and a reward for making my next deadline! (Unfortunately I cannot read romances while trying to write one.) In the meantime I am reading an autobiography of one of the UK’s best athletes, Colin Jackson, who retired in 2003.
Love,

I just finished Sail, by James Patterson and it’s a really good page turner. Not much romance, but a great story.
Posted on August 28th, 2008 at 6:02 amDru says:
The last five books that I’ve read were Pitch Black by Susan Crandall, Fuzzy Navel by J.A. Konrath, Wild for Him by Janelle Denison, Watch Me by Brenda Novak and Cutting Loose by Susan Andersen.
Posted on August 28th, 2008 at 6:11 amNina says:
MaryJanice Davidson “Sleeping with the Fishes” (two books in series)
Janet Evanovich (all books)
Mark Haddon “The Curious Incident with the Dog in the Nighttime”
Jasper Fforde “The Eyre Affair” (it helps if you read “Jane Eyre” first)
Edith Wharton “The Age of Innocence”
Toni Morrison “Love”
Clive Cussler (any one of his books)
Those are the ones I can think of now.
Is there anyone else out there that has the problem of having more books than space in bookshelves?
Nina

Let’s see, I’ve been reading student handbooks, permission slips, homework assignments. None of those have particularly inspired me.
Posted on August 28th, 2008 at 6:18 amThe only book I’ve read in forever is Making Children Mind without Losing Yours. However, I’ve only read the first two chapters because I am not quite up to the work this book is going to require I do to actually get my children to mind me. Ugh!

Twenty Wishes – Debbie Macomber

I just finished Sandra Brown’s Smoke Screen, which is an excellent book.
I’m re-reading the Key trilogy by Ms Nora.
I don’t drink, (alot) I don’t smoke, I don’t do drugs (Does advil or motrin count?) So my vice is reading, which if you think about it is probably cheaper than therapy or a murder trail.

Nina — “Is there anyone else out there that has the problem of having more books than space in bookshelves?”
Shelves! What shelves. Boxes after boxes. Stacks and piles. E-Books (what a fabulous invention)
I forgot e-books when listing – at 11:00pm last night I downloaded Kathy Reichs – Devil Bones and Kay Hooper – If there be Dragons. I’ve seen alot of books mentioned here I have on my wish list. I’m going to need to work overtime to afford them all. (sigh) that means less reading time.

I’m reading Susan Mallery’s Sweet Talk as well. I really like it although I felt like the hero was more a secondary character throughout the first half.
I’m also completely addicted to Robyn Carr’s Virgin River series. She does an excellent job of weaving all of her storylines together. I’m anxiously awaiting the library to deliver the 3rd one to me.

I’ve read several books over the past 3 weeks that I’ve really liked. The Darkest Kiss and The Darkest Pleasure by Gena Showalter are books 2 and 3 from her Lords of the Underworld series. I love these books and can’t wait for the rest of the books in the series. I also read Feast of Fools by Rachel Caine, One Night in Memphis by Allie Boniface, and Dance of Seduction by Elle Kennedy.
I’m currently reading Marked by PC Cast and Kristin Cast and loving it. It is a YA book, but a great story so far…really hated to put it down to come to work.

Sorry. It’s a long list. lol Some of these are from this year. Some are over the last couple of years.
** Sweet Talk and Sweet Trouble by Susan Mallery are both great books! I also LOVE Falling for Gracie (the reissue will come out Jan 09).
Posted on August 28th, 2008 at 7:02 am** Not Another Bad Date by Rachel Gibson
** Dinner First, Me Later? by Candy Halliday (I absolutely LOVED this book! It’s funny and sexy.) The first story in this series is great too! It’s called: You’re Bed or Mine?
** If you enjoy paranormal romances, Gena Showalter’s Lord of the Underworld Series (Darkest Night, Darkest Kiss, and Darkest Pleasure) is amazing! Seriously…
** More paranormal romances, Nalini Singh’s Psy/Changeling series (Slave to Sensation, Visions of Heat, Caressed by Ice, Mine to Possess, and Hostage to Pleasure) is fabulous. It makes you think, but it’s sooo good!
** If you enjoy historical romances, Kresley Cole’s MacCarrick Brothers series (If You Dare, If You Desire, and If You Deceive) is great! It’s about three Scottish brothers.
** If you enjoy sports romance stories, I would suggest reading any of Kate Angell (baseball romance stories) or Deidre Martin’s (hockey romance stories) stories.
** Any of Jennifer’s Crusie’s books (i.e. Anyone But You, Welcome to Temptation, Crazy for You, Bet Me, etc.)

Oh my goodness! I have so many, but my absolute favorite book (besides yours of course) is The Immortal Highlander by Karen Marie Moning. It’s HOT, and STEAMY, and AWESOME! It’s actually just come out in paperback not too long ago so you can find it at Wal-Mart. Karen Marie Moning has also written the “Fever” series – Darkfever, Bloodfever, and Faefever (out Sept 16). They are a departure from her other writing, but they are wonderful just the same! They are so well written. You will LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them!
One last book if you’re looking for one that will shake your world – The Crossroad’s Cafe by Deborah Smith is a beautifully written story. It’s about the healing power of love and is so poignant, you will stop and just re-read some paragraphs just for the pleasure of it. Enjoy!!!

I recently read Cry Wolf by Patricia Briggs and it was excellent. I read the most recent Sookie Stackhouse and enjoyed that–it had a fun ending. Book of a Thousand Days by Shannon Hale was good.
Right this minute I am reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I have them all in the UK version, which is fun. The words are all what the author wrote and not Americanized.
I tell people I am reading Harry Potter in his native language.
On my list for after I finish rereading the HP series is Dark Light by Jayne Castle, Dog Detectives by Kat Albrecht, Get Connected With Your Dog by Brenda Aloff, The Rider’s Problem Solver by Jessica Jahiel, and Juicy Pens, Thirsty Paper by Sark. I have an enormous TBR pile but those are the ones on the top. My reading ranges far and wide.

I just finished the HOT ZONE series by Carly Phillips,(cutte and funny will put you in a good mood) and before that was the Flash books by Jill because I have a serious thing for sexy firefighters (hubby is one). The books were great but all your books are. Today I started Hell On Heels By Julie Kenner, Kathleen O’Reilly, and Dee Davis. I read their first book and it was really good so I’m hoping this one will be to.

I have read many of titles mentioned above this summer, so I will not repeat them. Some titles that I have read and have not been mentioned are:
Posted on August 28th, 2008 at 6:01 pm-Aussie Rules, by Jill Shalvis
-Nauti Boy, by Lora Leigh
-Nauti Nights, by Lora Leigh
-Nauti Dreams, by Lora Leigh
And I have re-read two of my favorites of all time by the author I consider the Queen of Romance, Judith McNaught. Paradise and the follow-up story, Perfect are great examples of her writing style that just grabs me and pulls me in. I cry and bite my nails as the characters struggle to be together, and reach for a cold drink when they do! I must have read each book four or five times. VERY GOOD!!!

Anything by Jodi Picoult – I just finished Change of Heart and started Songs of the Humpback Whale. She’s written 19 books and I’ve probably read half of them so far. They’re all in my tbr pile. Also The Shack by William Young – very thought provoking. I too enjoyed The Education of Mrs. Brimley by Donna MacMeans.

Hmmm….let’s see. I am reading Molecular Structure of the Cell, Biology by Campbell 8th Edition and Chemistry by Soderburg 5th Edition….. all (3) of which weigh 22 lbs and cost $565.00 total!…. non of which I recommend (unless you are masochistic or have some crazy idea in your head that you want to become a pet doctor some day…. at this moment I can’t decide which I am). :whip:
The upside is that I have your blog to bribe myself with if I do my reading, thus allowing me five minutes of pure fun and enjoyment in between drowning in a sea of polypeptides and periodic tables. Short answer is: I am reading your blog for fun these days. Thank God for you!

Angie-la, my prayers have been sent your way. I am so sorry for the loss of your son. I am the mother of 2 boys, so I know how devastating this must be for you. Stay strong and know that people who don’t even know you are praying for you!

This “Jill” person has two new books out, so I went and bought those. I can’t say I read them, because “devoured” is a more accurate description. They’ve been bouncing around the house, from room to room, whenever the rereading mood strikes me. I also just recently finished reading “Acheron” by Sherrilyn Kenyon (my husband was disgusted that I plowed through a 750+ page book in about three days, even with three very little ones running amok here). And I was bad last night when I ran to the grocery store. Picked up “Wild for Him” by Janelle Denison, and so far, I’m enjoying it.

Angie, I am devastated for you. There are no words, really, except I am sure we all are thinking of you. Hugs.
