Bringing a whole new meaning to trashy reads

August 26, 2008 | Filed under: Stuff

The other day I cleaned out my closet, and when I was done, I had a stack of things I wanted to throw away, and a stack of things to give away. Somehow both boxes got shoved into the trash, don’t ask me how. I did NOT get the organized, careful gene, I can tell you that.

Anyway, the trash truck guys are wonderful and show up very early here. In fact, this week they came at the exact same time that poor Oldest was leaving to go to her job where she’s a lifeguard at a local resort. She called me from the driveway. “Mom, did you throw away some books?”

Ah, crap. “By accident. Why?”

“Cuz the trash truck guys are walking down the street reading your romances.”

Huh. Have to admit, the image made me smile. So trash truck guys, wherever you are? Even though I realize you’re probably just flipping through the pages for the good parts, I hope you enjoy.

Great picture. Maybe the trash guys learned something. LOL

I wish my trash guys would learn how not to empty the dumpster at 5 am.

  2. Stacy ~ says:

Yeah I hope they learn something AND retain it. Education does no good if you don’t apply it.

Here’s to reading the good parts ;)

  3. Liza says:

Great picture! I would be happy if the trash wasn’t picked up before 7 am on the weekend. For some reason on the days I’m up at 5 they come at noon to empty the dumpsters. On the days I can sleep in, they come at 6 to empty the dumpsters(did I mention that the dumpster is right outside my bedroom window).

Gotta love the trash man reading the romance novels.

  4. Patty L. says:

I’m sure the trash guys wives are happy with your trash. I know if my hubbie brought me home some romance novels I would be, especially if he got tips. LOL :rotfl:

  5. Laurie says:

What a gorgeous photo – wonderful job, youngest!

And what a lucky find for the trash guys!

  6. Ashley says:

    Beautiful pic!
Yeah, that is funny, picturing the trash guys walking down the street reading romance novels!!

  7. Jill says:

I wish I’d had a picture of the trash guys with the books. Now that would have been fun.

  8. Donna M says:

Love the image of the trash guys walking down the street reading a romance novel!

Like you I did not get the organized gene & am paying dearly for that while I am moving. Two different days friends have come to help but I am far from ready feeling like this will never end. Of course, we are in a heat wave which makes the physical moving all the more pleasant!! I tried weeding out books!! Ha! I did donate quite a few to the library for their sales but I still have a ton of books & they are going with me. If necessary I will weed out again later!!
    Great picture, thanks youngest.

  9. Erin says:

That is AWESOME! I wouldn’t be surprised if they brought the books home to finish :) Once someone starts your stories they have to keep reading to find out what happens next. It’s a rule or something. Bad things could happen if you put the book down. lol

  10. Brandy says:

Beautiful picture. I bet they were reading more than the “good parts”. *G*

  11. jeanne says:

GASP – books got thrown in the trash. I would have been running after them lol. Hopefully, they saved them all and learned something from them lol.

  12. Cryna says:

Awesome picture. The trash guys had something for to discuss all day long…..hope they took the books home to wives, girlfriends, etc.
