Michael Phelps, sigh

August 19, 2008 | Filed under: Stuff

I had to admit to Alpha Man last night that I was bumping George Clooney off my list for a newbie. You know the list I mean, right? Don’t even try to tell me you don’t all have a list. It’s the Can’t-Divorce-Me-If-I-Do-Them list!

Anyway, I was reading one of my fave sites this morning, Dooce, and saw she’d done the same thing.

Here’s my newest edition to my list:

I know there’s all this talk about how ridiculously low he wears his swimgear, and I have to say, that doesn’t bother me one little bit. So here’s my new top five:

Matt Damon
Johnny Depp
Clive Owen
Michael Phelps
Matt Damon

You’ll notice I have Matt Damon on twice. I call it a Matt Damon sandwich.

Now you. Your top five?

  1. Biddy says:

Hmmm can’t say Mr Phelps does it for me but then it leaves the field clear for you

    My list is:
    Sam West
    Hugh Jackman
    Gerard Butler
The Great Britain Men’s Rowing Quad
    Sam West

Mind you having met Sam West and made a fool of myself (also know as The Sam West Debacle)the likelihood is less than if I hadn’t met him *sigh*

  2. Judy F says:

    Lets see.

    George Clooney (local boy)
    Gerard Butler
    Simon Baker
    Hugh Jackman
    James Denton

I just adore Michael Phelps too

  3. Dee Thompson says:

    Matthew McConaughey
    Clive Owen
    Bruce Willis
    Ben Affleck
Bruce Payne [obscure actor but yummy]

    Ah, wishful thinking…

  4. Stacy ~ says:

    Gerard Butler
    Josh Bernstein
    Nathan Kamp
    Simon Baker
    Richard Armitage
    Denzel Washington
    Tim McGraw
    Jon Bon Jovi

Only 5, huh? Since I’m not married, I think I should be able to have more LOL.

  5. Pat L. says:

    Hmm - 5 huh - cant think of 5 this a.m.
    George Clooney
    John Stamos
    George Clooney

Like the sandiwch thing. If I think of more, will come back.

  6. Pat L. says:

    Hmm -
    George Clooney
    John Stamos
    Michael Weatherly from NCIS
    Christiane DelFuente
    George Clooney

Like the sandiwch thing. If I think of more, will come back.

  7. Elen says:

Johnny Depp - for Captain Jack Sparrow.
Daniel Sunjata - Go ahead. Google him, baby. But he’s mine. He danced with Carrie on Sex and the City. I think the episode was The Fleet’s In.
Jude Law for being the sexiest man alive in glasses. See The Holiday.
Viggo Mortensen - but only if we could play Lord of the Rings together.
Johnny Depp - for Roux in Chocolat.

There. I sandwiched them, but you could put them all in a nice big ice cream dish and give me a spoon.
Boy, that woke me up. I don’t even think I need caffeine. ;-)

  8. Dee says:

I hate to tell you this, but Viggo Mortenson missed my list because I read something that says he doesn’t wear deoderant. Eeeuw….

I cannot think of George Clooney as sexy AT ALL - why? My brother looks enough like him that it creates a yuck forcefield that I cannot see past. However, any of you Clooney-swooners who want to see my brother, send me an email. The address is on my blog.

Jude Law - I forgot him. He is incredibly sexy.

I’m single, so I get more fantasy men! Yay!

    Dee

  9. Ashley says:

Wow, so many to choose from…I guess my five would be…
    Carter Oosterhouse -yummy carpenter
Josh Lucas -apparantly Jill doesn’t want him anymore so I’ll take him!!
    Paul Walker -too hot
    Josh Hartnett -cutie
and Johnny Knoxville, although I’m not sure why!!

  10. Elen says:

Dee said: I hate to tell you this, but Viggo Mortenson missed my list because I read something that says he doesn’t wear deoderant. Eeeuw….

But, but, but Dee, My To Do list has to do exactly what I want. And that’s exactly how I filed this list after I compiled it — To Do List 2008. rotfl

This is all your fault, Jill. ;-)

  11. Suzanne says:

    I don’t know who Clive Owen is…….

  12. Melissa says:

There’s only one, Paul McGillion. Yeah, he’s shorter than me but so is most of the male populace. I’m THAT tall. There’s just something about a Scotts man that melts me and makes me go all a twitterpaited.

  13. Casee says:

Ah, the list. The list that started with three, I changed to five, then finally ten. My husband only gets five though.

    My top five are:

    Johnny Depp
    Christian Bale
    Josh Duhamel
    Daniel Craig
    Matt Damon

  14. RaeLeigh says:

Sigh. I love these lists. :) Elen, Jude Law is SO HOT in that movie! I wish he wasn’t such a dirty hooker in real life, because dang he’s pretty.

    My List:
David Boreanaz (David Boreanaz David Boreanaz David Boreanaz David Boreanaz — look. it’s my entire list. Ok, ok. no cheating)
    Michael Phelps
Channing Tatum (ever seen “Step Up?”)
Chris Noth (more Mr. Big Chris Noth than Detective Mike Logan Chris Noth)
Craig Ferguson (I know, odd. But dammit he is funny and that is SEXY!)

  15. Ang says:

Hmm..this actually took me awhile because it changes so often.. Today it is:

Craig Ferguson (Funny and has a great accent)
    Jeffrey Dean Morgan (yum-o, yum-o, yum-O)
George Clooney (worked w/his dad but never met him)
    Patrick Dempsey (fan since 1987)
Dermot Mulroney (quiet with an accent)

  16. Jill says:

I can’t believe I forgot about Josh Lucas and Josh Duhamel. Okay, I’m going to need a longer list!

  17. Fannie says:

    My list would be:
    David James Elliott (Jag)
    Gary Sinese (CSI NY}
    William Peterson (CSI)
    Alex O’Laughlin (Moonlight)
    Matt Damon
As you can see, I watch more TV than movies. Ihope everyone has pleasant dreams tonight. Hugs to all.

    Hugh Jackman

  21. Amy says:

    Brendan Fraser
    Matt Damon
    Alan Rickman
    Hugh Dancy
    Ciaran Hinds

Huh. Why are we limited to FIVE?

  22. RaeLeigh says:

I have to edit my list to add Mr. Drew Fuller. For those of you who don’t know who he is… ever watch Army Wives? Trevor LeBlanc? OMG. I just flipped open my Redbook this morning to see his beautiful face (only, uh, could ya smile Drew? Your smile is just too darn pretty to waste!) and went “OH! I have to add him to my list!”

Also stealing JDM and Patrick Dempsey from Ang. How could I forget them?! Oh! And Justin Chambers! :) Ok, looks like I have to implement the “I’m single” rule… :)

  23. Liza says:

    Patrick Dempsey
    Matthew McConoughey
    Colin Firth
    David Boreanaz
    Johnny Depp
    Michael Phelps
    Jon Bon Jovi
    Josh Lucas
I’m single, so I added a few extra hotties!

  24. Treasia Stepp says:

It’s good to know other’s have the same type of list. :rotfl:

    Matthew McConaughey
    Patrick Dempsey
    Jon Bon Jovi
    Josh Lucas
    Johnny Depp

  25. Caro says:

I always love these types of lists because it’s interesting to see where people’s tastes lie.

    David Boreanaz
    Colin Firth
    Alan Rickman
    Ciaran Hinds
David Tennant (yes, the Doctor, but check out DI Peter Carlisle in “Blackpool”)

Hmmm. Is there really only one American on my list?

  26. Jill says:

I am loving these lists and am glad I’m not alone in having one. :wigglebrow:

  27. april says:

I have a Freebie list. It hasn’t changed in forever.

My childhood freebie was always Chris O’Donnell so he always gets special treatment. My all-time top of the list is Kyle Chandler (so you can imagine how happy I was that both appeared in Season 2 of Grey’s Anatomy).

Jensen Ackles definitely makes my revised list. I really like Simon Baker, Jesse Spencer, and I’ll throw in Taye Diggs after his year on Private Practice and ending the season with him shirtless. mmmm (Though wow to Tim Daly, too.)

  28. Donna M says:

Oh Wow! I don’t really have a list but I do have an oh yum factor!!!! I would let Michael Phelps date my daughter!! He looks like he could be trusted with them!! Of course, one daughter is married & the other is quite a few years older…

    1. David James Elliott
    2. Tom Sellack
    3. Sean Connery
    4. Tom Hanks
    5. Denzel Washington

None of them are available but I think it is okay to drool in private!! I’m sure once I submit this my brain will kick in with more!!

    Fun subject for the day!!

  29. leah says:

I have to disagree with you on the Michael Phelps thing. He is just too geeky for me. Granted, he’s an amazing athlete and seems like a good boy, but he is so unappealing to me. I thought if they showed him screaming with his arms out one more time, I was going to hurl … but that’s just me. :)
    Ok, my list:
George Clooney (totally used to have VIVID dreams about him
    Hugh Jackman Oh my!
    Dennis Quaid
    Brett Favre

  30. Rosalita H. says:

    Michael Phelps
    Michael Phelps
    Michael Phelps
    Michael Phelps
    Michael Phelps
    :wigglebrow: :wigglebrow: :wigglebrow: :wigglebrow: :wigglebrow:

  31. Amanda says:

    hmmmm…(and ‘mmmm’)

    Matthew McConoughey
    Hugh Jackman
    Josh Lucas
    Liam Neeson
Jude Law (The Holiday - love the glasses!)
    Ralph Fiennes (eyes are amazing)
    Josh Lucas
    Liam Neeson
    John Corbett

    What can I say… i’m single!

  32. Brandy says:

    David Boreanz (Bones)
Brendan Frasier (Mummy, MummyII and Mummy III)
    Mark Harmon (NCIS)
    Nathan Fillion (Serenity, Firefly)
    Colin Ferguson (Eureka)

Quite an eclectic list for me. *G*

  33. Jane says:

    Christian Bale
    Eric Bana
    Hugh Jackman
    Daniel Craig
    Jon Stewart

  34. Diana says:

Hmm, not sure who my top five would be, but I know actor Ryan Gosling would be on the list. Probably Christian Bale, too.

I was quite obsessed with Michael Phelps four years ago and collected anything I could related to him. Jill, have you seen this?

    http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20220102,00.html

  35. sarah says:

Jill - there’s a video of Phelps and his team winning that amazing relay… I watched it half a dozen times for all the waxed, ripped, wet men in low-riding swim trunks. With their arms around each other. I drool just thinking about it.

Okay, we’re seriously missing the Brad Pitt representation here…

    1) Brad Pitt (first and forever, can’t get around it)
    2) Johnny Depp - as Captain Jack
    3) Russell Crowe - in a Gladiator skirt, baby
    4) Hugh Jackman
    5) Patrick Dempsey — new to the list, but wow

I consider The List a fluid thing… it usually changes with which movie I’ve seen last.

  36. chrisitna T. says:

ok i will narrow it down to 5:

channing tatum: stop loss; Step up 1& 2
    michael phelps
    aaron perisol
john franco in Annapolis not pineapple whatever…
    hugh jackman

  37. Cryna says:

I am enjoying your lists. Some of the these I have no clue who they are……. :???: I will have to think on a list……

  38. Tori Lennox says:

Wow. I thought I was the only person in the world who knew who Sam West was! He’s definitely on my list. So is:

    Ryan Lochte
    Hugh Jackman
    Pierce Brosnan
    Robson Green

Considering I’m not actually English, I have a lot of Brit actors on my list. *g* And one cutie pie swimmer.

  39. Victoria says:

Patrick Dempsey as Dr. McDreamy and only McDreamy!!
David James Elliott in his Navy uniform from JAG YUM!
Brad Pitt cuz he’s just hot!
Pierce Brosnan cuz I like his accent
And McDreamy again… I’d do him forever! (if he didn’t have that whole wife thing) :rotfl:

  40. kim h says:

    lochte
    wentworth miller (prison break)
    tom brady
    connor jackson bb player

  41. Elen says:

p.s. Jill - Clive Owen is one yummy hombre. Did you see the British detective series he was in? Then, there was King Arthur, The Bourne Identity, Children of Men…. Okay. Maybe he gets his own list.

  42. JulieLeto says:

Eduardo Verastegui (google him! You’ll be glad you did.)
    Colin Firth
    Jon Bon Jovi
    Benjamin Bratt
    Nicholas Cage

    I have very eclectic tastes.

  43. Nina says:

I read these lists and since I have a huge memory for info I probably won’t need I remembered what Elen said about Daniel Sunjata. Had no idea who he was or anything. Guess what. I go channel surfing last night during a commercial break instead of raiding the fridge and I happen to come across the exact scene of SATC where Carrie dances with him. What are the odds of that? I mean, it’s not like I’m a regular fan or anything of the series. Just had to share.

Hmm… got to have a cup of tea before I compile a list. Too early in the morning. I’ll be back!

    Nina

  44. Pat L. says:

DEE - WHAT IS YOUR BLOG ADDY - I WANT TO SEE A PIX OF YOUR BROTHER!!!

  45. Keeper of the Catnip says:

Ryan Sutter… I’da been on Bachelorette if I knew he was up for grabs!!! All around perfect guy!
    Paul Walker
    Patrick Dempsey
    Matt Damon
    Matt McConaughey
    Eric Winters
    Ashton Kutcher
    Josh Hartnett
    David Sutcliffe
    John Newton

10 is a factor of 5 is it not?

  46. Keeper of the Catnip says:

    5 is a factor of 10?

    Blonde!!! :footinmouth:

  47. Mary says:

    Ooh, fun!

    1) Jeffrey Dean Morgan (GAH! LOVE him. Completely obsessed.)
    2) Clooney
    3) Gerard Butler

Oh, I can’t decide….Jensen Ackles? Richard Armitage? Helo from Battlestar Galactica? Chris Noth 10 years ago?

  48. Patricia says:

I don’t have a list, but, I know if I did, it would include:

    1. Simon Baker (joining several others here). When he did that CBS series, I kept asking myself, why is this guy unknown?

    2. Clooney. Not only is he dreamy, but, he’s so intelligent about important RL issues. Hard to not be impressed with a guy who has both!

    Still thinking beyond this…

  49. Lisa says:

    Paul McCartney-always and forever:guitar:

    George Clooney-steamy…….
Richie Sambora-before he had to go to rehab
Chris Noth-Oh, he’s Mr. Big alright!
Jack Nicholson-OK, I hate to admit this one, but there is just so much animal magnatism in that man!
