Tennis anyone?

August 11, 2008 | Filed under: Stuff

So Oldest got up and told her father she wanted to kick his patootie on the tennis court. She DARED him to play her. This is funny because I’m telling you now, never dare Alpha Man to do anything.

Because he will do whatever it is, and you will be sorry.

First of all, the man is shockingly athletic, which is really annoying for someone who isn’t (me). But I wasn’t the one who challenged him. Oldest was taunting him, and finally he set down the remote (he’d been glued to the Olympics) and headed for the car. I ran after them because are you kidding? I wasn’t about to miss Oldest being schooled. Here she is singing “bring it on, daddy . . .”

Oh, honey. If only you knew better. I was laughing so hard at what was about to happen that I this was all I caught of Alpha Man’s serve:

And here is Oldest trying to catch the serve:

Hee.

Alpha Man waited until Oldest was picking up some balls and lobbed one right at her tush. He beaned her good, which amused him greatly.

Oldest is majoring in neuro-science at UCLA but she should think about switching it to drama:

Then she was walking around like a very old woman, moaning and groaning . . .

So I took over and faced the great Alpha Man.

Notice my form. Notice all those muscles, especially the hard earned cookie ones around my waist. And also notice the shorts, specifically those pockets, which I obviously spent hours ironing. Except I don’t have an iron because it was converted to a ski waxer, but that’s another story . . .

Poor Oldest. It kills when your parents are right, and beat the pants off you.

So uh Jill, how’d you do against Alpha Man? Just askin’…

    Kids they never learn.

    Did you beat Alpha Man???

  4. Dru says:

Stop, I’m crying from laughing so hard so early in the morning. Thanks for the laugh. BTW, who won?

  5. Laurie says:

Looks like a good time was had by all!

    Have a great week!

  6. Patty L. says:

Jill you don’t look like you have a cookie addiction. I go to the gym four times a week and I would smack my mom for your body. :rotfl:

I hope you beat Alpha Man. My hubbie wouldn’t go this weekend to play tennis with us, so my kids ran me like crazy around the court. LOL I thought I was the only one with the bright idea to play tennis this weekend.

  7. Andi Fishlock says:

Tennis is *the* sport around here. Seems to have taken over our lives as I drive back and forth daily to the courts with my dd. I *used* to be very athletic…but never truly mastered any sport…then up steps dh who has been active but never a *formal* athlete beyond little league…but as I watched him play with dd last week it frustrated me to all hell that he is GOOD at everything! The man has played raquet sports of any kind in ten years and picks up that darn raquet and ia beautiful with it! No fair! Meanwhile I have been on the court with her, learning swinging running my heart out and I look like a freakin dork! Argh…..
love the relationship you have with your family….thanks for sharing it.

  8. Tina says:

Am I the only one, picturing AM doing the “Heebie-Geebie” Dance.

  9. Jill says:

Well I held my own for about ten minutes, and then Alpha Man turned it on and I hand my butt handed to me. Dammit. He really needed to be taken down a peg too . . .

  10. Liza says:

I grew up playing tennis all the time. I can’t even remember the last time I was on the court. Thanks for the laugh this morning…Oldest is walking around a bit like a little old lady.

  11. Toni Anderson says:

LOL that is funny :) I met alpha man once. I have one just like him

  12. Ashley says:

Well damn, I was rootin’ for ya Jill!! Maybe you’ll get him next time!
I bought the rackets and balls for my husband and I to start playing tennis and they’ve been sitting in the bag for a month now! Yes, I am your fellow Procrastinator!!
And I’d forgotten about the “heebie-jeebie” dance until Tina just reminded us and now I’m laughing all over again!!! :rotfl:

  13. Donna M says:

Love the pictures. I’m not sure I can even swing a tennis raquet!! When I was in my teens I played badminton! Had a blast, we had a net in the backyard. The neighbors next door would come over sometimes to play (adults)! I had a lot of fun.
When I saw Jill at RWA I did not notice a single cookie bulge! She looks great.
What a fun family you have.

  14. Cynthia says:

We’ve been in our home for a year and a half now, and I still can’t find my iron. I had to borrow one from the neighbor once and felt like the biggest dork to walk planet earth. So, I made hubby go next door and ask them. He is incapable of residing in dorkdom.

  15. Cryna says:

I am not athletic at all, so think you did great to jump in there and play. Wish you had won. Great pictures……..

  16. Brandy says:

My dad was/is a natural athlete. I was smart enough to never challenge him. *G* At least y’all had a good day? Right? *G*

  17. Susan says:

Doesn’t it stink when you have no chance of beating your opponent! :hissyfit:

  18. Rosalita H. says:

Great pic of Alpha Man. :wigglebrow: Nice form Jill! Atleast you picked up the racket, I still would have been holding on to my bag of chips!

    Greetings from Glendale, CA….

  19. sarah says:

WTG getting on the court! Oldest didn’t try to play again??

Tennis is one of those sports I agressively avoid. Vehemently avoid? Along with volleyball, and basketball, and softball and just about anything to do with a ball.
Racquet ball… where you’re trapped in a room with the ball… one of my circles of hell.

    I love to downhill ski. Non-contact. Non-ball.

  20. kim h says:

funny, good form jill, u look serouious. hope u received my email. thanks :bananadance:

  21. Suzanne says:

You look fantastic! I hope you taught HIM a lesson!

  22. limecello says:

Hilarious. Jill -you and Oldest should’ve teamed up against AM! :D

  23. Diana says:

Jill, Alpha Man seems like he’s a lot of fun to be around. :)
