San Francisco

August 2, 2008 | Filed under: Stuff

So I’m missing my bunny slippers and sweats like I’d miss a limb but I am very happy I came to the RWA writer’s conference. After working alone all year, I got to spend time with lifelong, dear dear friends . . . (Hi Maureen Child!!!)

Got to catch up with my agent and my WONDERFUL editors. And dare I say it? Best of all, I went here:

Oh. My. God. I wanted to go swimming in a vat of chocolate. I’m not kidding.

I nearly climbed the barrier and dove in. My lovely cousin Cathy stopped me. She said I might get fat. That didn’t stop me. She said chocolate was hard to get out of hair. That stopped me. I have enough hair problems. (Hi Cathy, thanks for taking me to Pier 39 where we got to eat and see the crazy silver guy)

Crazy Silver Guy between the piers, who wanted me to come closer. Um, no thank you:

Oh, and the sea lions! You would have thought it was spring, there was so much romance going on. Check out the nookie going on in the back row . . .

And . . .

Honestly, guys, get a room. This is a family pier!

P.S. A HUGE thank you to Diane who came by my signing today with PRESENTS (cookies!!!!). JUST what I needed, especially since I hadn’t jumped into the vat of chocolate (which I think shows remarkable restraint on my part, don’t you?) In the meantime, I’m taking my bleary-eyed self to bed, and not in the good way. Unlike these two:

  3. Liza says:

Glad you’re having such a great time. I know the friends, cookies, and chocolate only are making things better.

  4. Dru says:

    mmmm chocolates

  5. Ang says:

yummy….Ghirardelli chocolate…that is better than most cookies. I would have been tempted to jump in too.
Happy to hear you are enjoying yourself.

 Silver guy..what is up with that?? That scares me more than the sea lions.

  6. Patty L. says:

I wouldn’t mind taking a dip in that chocolate pool myself. LOL What is the deal with the Silver guy? Seal lions going at it, I wonder how all of the parents explain that. :rotfl:

  7. SALLYE CARBERRY says:

    HEY THERE,
THANKS FOR THE PICTURE, YOU BOTH LOOK GREAT. VERY GLAD YOU ARE HAVING SOME TIME TOGETHER AND YOU ARE HAVING FUN WITH MAUREEN. IT IS HARD TO BE AROUND HER AND NOT HAVE FUN CAUSE SHE IS SUCH A FUN PERSON.GO GIRL, AND HAVE MORE FUN.
    SALLYE

  8. Jill says:

Sallye, your daughter is one of my closest, most dear friends, and we’ve gotten in lots of mischief together. So never fear, we are having a BALL.

  9. Diana says:

Jill, it was so great to meet you yesterday. I hope you like the cookies and chocolate. I wanted to present you with a variety of things, but wasn’t sure if you were picky when it came to treats. You assured me that you weren’t. Enjoy! :)

  10. Donna M says:

So glad someone brought you cookies! Now, I know you are doing okay! Isn’t Pier 39 something, sort of like a carnival with upscale shopping & eating!! The sea lions are an attraction and sometimes a problem!! I took my two grandkids from Oregon to Pier 39 last year. We took the ferry over so they got to see Alcatraz up somewhat close & see the city from the bay. We had a fun time and their Auntie Shannon got to come with us.
Today I was actually suppose to be with the two grandkids but Nick took a fall yesterday and broke his ankle. He got to spend a part of the day & the night in the hospital having his ankle put in a cast and is now waiting to see the doctor so he can leave. My daughter & her husband drove down from Oregon after his accident. I’m hoping to get to see them later today or maybe tomorrow. Nick is fine he will be on crutches for awhile but the good news is he didn’t have to have screws put in his ankle. Life, does throw us some unexpected happenings from time to time. Jill, I know you understand that.
Enjoy the rest of your time in San Francisco. Have a safe journey home.

  11. Brandy says:

Yay! You were gifted with cookies! *G* Ghiridelli makes my all time favorite chocolate syrup for hot chocolate. YUM! I don’t blame you for wanting to jump in the vat! *G* Glad to hear you’re having a wonderful!

  12. Suzanne says:

  13. Susan says:

  15. Cryna says:

The pictures are great. I so want to go to SF and see some of these places. So glad you got treats  and that you are having a good time.

  16. Jill says:

I am home and have quite the travel story, which I’ll post later tonight, so stayed tuned.

  17. Lorrie says:

The sea lions look like they are dipped in chocolate….or is it just me?

  18. Karin says:

Love the pictures, Jill. Now I get a glimpse of what I can look forward to when I get out to San Francisco in October…though I’m sure it will be quite a bit colder.
