Can You Play?

July 29, 2008 | Filed under: Stuff

I’m trying to read a set of galleys, go over a set of copy edits, put the finishing touches on a proposal for my editor, get the laundry done, get my car fixed, all while trying not to talk myself out of going to a writer’s conference in San Francisco tomorrow . . . my head feels like it just might explode, and here is Ashes with her one simple need. To be with me.

Or correction, to have me throw the ball.

I couldn’t resist, of course, and ended up on the grass with her for a half an hour that I shouldn’t have spared. But I’m so glad I did. So here’s my words of wisdom today: remember to slow down and smell the flowers! (And throw the ball . . .)

  1. Judy F says:

Ah Ashes is such a sweetie. Does tossing the ring off the milk carton at 2 am count? My cat Sammy wanted to play at that hour. LOL

  2. Ang says:

Awww..with that face and especially those beautiful soulful eyes….I’m sure the 1/2 hour gave you a energy boost.

  3. Laurie says:

What a cute pic! We all need a little quality time with our best bud sometimes - it’s good for the soul!

  4. Liza says:

What a sweetie! Of course you had to give in to that face.

  5. Stephanie says:

I could’t resist that sweet pleading face either.

  6. Hélène says:

Awwww what a sweety. You & Ashes both that is.
Hope you all have a great day.

  7. Ashley says:

Cute pic, there’s no way anyone could have said No to that face!!

  8. Devon Ellington says:

And I bet you were refreshed after. I’m glad you listened to Ashes. Ashes knows best!

HEX BREAKER releases on Friday, and I’m a bundle of nerves . . .

  9. Elizabeth K says:

You know, that is just what I needed to hear today. thanks, Jill!

  10. Suzanne says:

She’s so cute!! And everybody needs to play!

  11. Donna M says:

Fun with Ashes probably helped your stress level. Sounds like a good idea to me!! :bananadance:

  12. Brandy says:

Ashes looks so pitiful and yet hopeful in that picture. Glad you took the time to play!

  13. Allie says:

Tess and Kipp agree with Ashes. :) Especially Kipp. Kipp is fetching machine. Tess prefers tug games, especially with the toys meant for fetch. This annoys Kipp, who will go get the frisbee from her and bring it to me, putting the frisbees in a tidy little herd at my feet. :) “I bring,” he says, “You throw now.”

  14. Susan says:

Of course you couldn’t say no to that sweetie!

  15. limecello says:

    Awee… cuuuttee!

  16. Heather says:

Aww…who could resist that look? Have a safe trip and a fantastic time in SF, Jill. It’s been far too long since I’ve been to conference!

  17. sarah says:

    Too sweet.
Glad you’ll be in San Francisco!! I’ll try to run into you — in a NON stalker-like way. lol

  18. Fannie says:

Ashes is a sweetie. Have you been spending more time with the other pets and ignoring her? Have fun in San Francisco. It will give you a break and the fans a chance to meet you. We (like Ashes) need to connect occasionally. Wish I could attend but I live on the other side of the country. I will be in Monterey for the month of Nov. when daughter has her baby girl. That is a lot closer to you than NC. Have a safe trip, relax, refresh and have fun. Hugs to all.

  19. Stacy ~ says:

Who could resist that face, with those big eyes? Glad you spent quality time with Mountain Barbie.

I’m heading off to SFO tomorrow morning, but I’ll try to stop by and say “bye” before I leave.

  20. Cryna says:

What a cute picture, no wonder you couldn’t resist. And with everything going on you needed to take the time out.

  21. Terrie says:

    Simply irresistable.

  22. Celise says:

That is such a great reminder! I wanted to say that I really enjoyed FLASHPOINT. What a surprising villain. And sad, to say the least.

OT, I’m looking for authors who maintain character blogs (MC’s from novels with their own space on the internet like this one–http://1800snitch.wordpress.com). Please contact me through my author site if you know of anyone, or just pass the message on. Thanks.

  23. Karin says:

Love the picture, Jill. And everyone needs a little break when things get crazy.
