The Joys Of Puppy

July 17, 2008 | Filed under: Stuff

Mountain Barbie has proven herself aptly named. This week alone, she took out the screen on the sliding door because . . . well, I have no idea. I guess she was in a hurry. She stepped on the cat, by accident. She stuck her big fat head into my chip drawer and ate an entire bag of bbq chips including the bag — my emergency stash! And then she came running inside with muddy feet, not stopping until she’d ran a joyous loop away from me through the entire house.

I might kill her.

But here’s the thing. She’s so damn pretty.

Her latest trick? Trampoline jumping. Middle was out there having some fun . . .

And along comes . . .

Mountain Barbie caught on quick.

If only she could catch onto others things as quick. Like rules. And oh, I don’t know, LISTENING. Coming when I call her, now that would be FANTASTIC.

  1. Judy F says:

Ah she is so pretty too. At least she has fun in her day. LOL

  2. Stacy ~ says:

Aw she’s so sweet, and she’s having a good ole time. Who can resist Mountain Barbie?

  3. Kate Hardy says:

    That’s lovely, Jill.

Oh, and if you work out the obedience thing, tell me how we can stop my spaniel taking a shoe down the bottom of the garden and putting it just out of sight… and you find out it’s missing when you need to wear it AND it’s been raining…

  4. Moonlissa says:

My girl may be too smart for her own good. She recently learned that if she comes to me at the dog park…she goes home. Hence the two hour merry chase she led me on. She comes just close enough not to grab, and then she darts away! Suddenly, she is not so cute!

  5. Elizabeth K says:

How to get your dog to come when you call:

Get their attention (call their name, etc.) and when they look at you, run in the opposite direction from them. When they catch up, praise praise praise! They think you’re playing. You’re actually training them to come to you. And make sure every time they do come to you–whether it’s in training or they destroyed the living room while you were out–that you’re happy about it. Dogs have no short term memory to speak of; they can’t remember that you’re mad they pissed all over the kitchen floor 5 minutes ago. They think you’re mad because they came up to you right now. Good luck!

  6. Ashley says:

I learned a long time ago that my dogs are worse than children, they do what they want, when they want, and to hell with everything else! However, mine must not be as adventurous as MB, because they won’t get on the trampoline, but they do get under it!!

  7. Ang says:

Children and dogs…just think of how “boring” (or should that be “tranquil”) our lives would be without them.

  8. Liza says:

Mountain Barbie is so pretty! I guess she took out the screen door to make it easier for her to get outside. My dad’s lab loves to eat all the crackers in the snack drawer. If she could find the chips she would eat all of those too.

  9. Casee says:

OMGosh, that is so cute! I want a dog like that. Minus all the stuff at the beginning.

  10. Cryna says:

Mountain Barbie is just all about having a great time. She looks like she is enjoying the trampoline. Those are cute pictures, Jill.

  11. Allie says:

    Hee hee.

  12. Celise says:

LOL. That’s why I love cats. Cuz they actually do come when you call. At least, MY cat does.

  13. Jill says:

My cat doesn’t come when I call, she mostly only comes when I don’t want her to. :wall:

    I think it’s possible I might be a pushover.

  14. Hélène says:

I love Labs, but afraid of getting another one after reading “Marley & Me. Life & love of the worlds worst dog”.

  15. Hélène says:

My cat does come when i say “Treats?!?” :rotfl:

  16. Karin says:

Well, at least Mountain Barbie can learn something, even if it’s not that useful. lol

  17. Elen says:

Well, Mountain Barbie is a Rock Star! Different set of rules for rock stars. :rotfl:

What a cutie. We have Gracie Allen, our full of joy Golden pup.

  18. Donna M says:

And people wonder why I don’t mind not having animals!!!
Mountain Barbie is a cutie & of course so is Middle.

  19. Brandy says:

Awww, she’s too cute to stay mad at.
We have 7 cats, I tell everyone it’s like living with 7 toddlers. *G*

  20. Suzanne says:

I wanna be your dog. She has a good life!!

  21. Judy F says:

My cat knows his name, the words treat and nap. lOL

  22. Courtney says:

OMG! What a great picture of Izzy and Middle!

  23. Mary says:

The Weimar puppy next door gets on the trampoline, too. Cracks me up.

I saw this and thought of you!

Two words: YouTube! (is that two?)

First the video, then she’s discovered by Ellen, before we know it she’s got her own Mountain Barbie Action Figure! The Pup-arazzi will swarm!

  25. Amy says:

    LOL on the trampoline puppy!
