Flashback

July 11, 2008 | Filed under: Stuff

Well hopefully some of you read this month’s Flashpoint, out in stores now. Flashback will be out soon (you can pre-order here if you want to make my day). I have an excerpt from it for today’s blog post. Yes, it’s lazy of me to put up an excerpt, but in my defense, I’ve had one of those weeks that includes two broken down cars, a flat tire, soaring temps, a sky that is raining ashes from the American River fire getting ever closer, a kid who flew on an airplane without me to go to her college orientation (college! Holy smokes how did that happen??!!) and a very, very sick puppy.

So honestly, I feel like I’m doing good even getting the excerpt up.

Oh and did I mention I’m sleep deprived? Said daughter’s plane landed after midnight, didn’t get home and in bed until two, and then the @#$# cat decided to bat at my head at three.

In the morning.

And then the dog started in with the gagging noise at six. Yeah. That’s a lovely sound to wake up to. So the first person to look at me cross-eyed today gets a one way ticket to the doghouse where Alpha Man is currently residing just because.

So. Where was I? Ah, yes, the excerpt. With no further ado . . .

Excerpt:

Aidan surfaced from a deep, deep sleep, aware that something had woken him, but not sure what. He opened his eyes into his dark bedroom, lit up in black and white by the faint glow of the moon slanting in through his horizontal blinds.

There, by his bed, stood an angel.

An angel in his t-shirt, in the same black and white swaths of moonlight as his room.

She was hurting, sad, scared . . . and why the hell hadn’t he given her a suit of armor instead of just a t-shirt? Had he been looking for punishment? Because there it was, in flesh and blood and glorious curves and wild hair, and a face so hauntingly beautiful she took his breath. He was in trouble, deep trouble, because though he’d managed to resist opening his heart for her that first time, he wasn’t quite sure he would be able to manage it this time.

Then, without a single word, she lifted his covers and scooted into the bed.

With him.

  2. Stacy ~ says:

Wow, you’ve got a lot on your plate. I hope things settle down soon, but they never seem to, do they? Have a cookie, it’ll help.

Oh yeah, I can’t wait to snatch this book right up when it comes out.

  3. Patty L. says:

Great excerpt. Sorry to hear that so many things aren’t going your way. At least oldest made it home safe and sound. Hope Alpha Man makes it up to you soon and Mountain Barbi feels better.

  4. Ashley says:

Sending lots of hugs and love your way, being a woman is a hard job (don’t we all know it, if only someone could pass the message on to the men and children)!!
Flashpoint was awesome, I can’t wait for Flashback, I’ve got it pre-ordered, hopefully it will ship soon!
Hope everyone (animals included) and everything gets better for you soon!
Off to read todays chapter of Flash Storm!

  5. Laurie says:

You poor thing - take care of yourself.

As for the excerpt? It’s yummy!

  6. Jess in MA says:

Dang, that is not a great week. It’s Friday, though, so that’s some small bit of good news. I hope things improve over the weekend! Oooh, the excerpt was very tempting! Can’t wait!

  7. abby says:

Aww… I’m sorry you had a rough week. ::hugs:: Hopefully, your weekend will turn out great!

And speaking of Flashback, I read it yesterday! Jill, I honestly think it’s better than Flashpoint, and I loved Flashpoint! I loved Aiden and Kenzie, and I can’t believe Dustin and Cristina broke up. I suppose that’s why we can expect a story about them. Did you say this was coming out in December? I don’t remember, but I sure hope so. ::crosses fingers:: Anyway, there was so much suspense and drama, and I honestly didn’t suspect the ending. And I was surprised a certain someone came back. I did have my doubts though as the story progressed. Did that make sense? lol I don’t really want to give anything away for those who haven’t read the story yet, but I loved it!! Just wanted to tell you that.

  8. abby says:

P.S. I think you should write a story for all of the firemen. Pretty, pretty please!!

  9. Liza says:

Hugs Jill. Hope things get better soon. Flashback is on it’s way to my house. I got the email from EHQ yesterday that it had shipped.

  10. Amy says:

And excerpt is NOT lazy. It’s good marketing.

    {{{{Jill}}}}

What an intense week! Get some sleep. I think we have weeks like this so we can look around at weeks that are calm and tranquil and feel confused (at least that’s the way it seems to be at my house).

BTW, I totally agree with abby… more firemen.

  11. Moonlissa says:

Sorry about the puppy. I went through that last weekend with mine…Nylabone Edible, never again! I already have Flashback :bananadance: , just waiting for the weekend so that I can enjoy it!

  12. Allie says:

Yikes! Time for a weekend, huh? Hopefully the weekend will be calmer. Wow. I hope the puppy is okay now. Nothing worse than a sick pet–they can’t tell you what hurts. You all take care. I would send you a cool breeze from the Pacific Northwest but I worry it might go the wrong direction in terms of fire and smoke.

  13. Ang says:

I’m with you there Jill. It’s been the week from you know where. :wall: Calgon take me away… The new book arrived yesterday..thanks Mr. Mailman for my birthday present. Now if I could just have the time to read it. It keeps calling to me but I have not been able to sit in peace for more than 30 seconds.

  14. Karin says:

I hope things get better for you soon, Jill. I think your week deserves a whole box, or more, of girl scout cookies.

I’ve already preordered this one and I can’t wait for it to get here! So, the excerpt was a wonderful teaser.

  15. Cryna says:

Yikes, what a week hope that it turns around for you because you certainly have had your share well more than your share. Love the excerpt, and hope to have the book in my hands today when the mail comes. Loving the online, and the books are great.

  16. Sonya says:

I got my copy of Flashback earlier this week and finished it in like 2 hours flat. LOVED IT! Thanks for another great one Jill. Another MUST HAVE ladies. Enjoy!

  17. Donna M says:

What a week you have had! Hopefully things will improve from now on. Daughter’s travel and college orientation is a positive thing! I laughed about Alpha Man being in the dog house!! Sorry, Alpha Man!
Love the excerpt, yum! The online read was sure heating up yesterday! Can’t wait to go read today’s chapter.
May your dog get better & life be peaceful & calm all through the weekend.
    Everyone enjoy the weekend.

  18. Stephanee says:

Sorry to hear about your bad week Jill. Flashback is on my autobuy list when it becomes available on the Kindle. Love those reunion romances - including your on-line read!

  19. Jill says:

    Thanks everybody! I’m glad it’s a weekend just ahead . . .

  20. Jane says:

Hope things get better by the weekend.

  21. Brandy says:

Hugs Jill! I hope things are better soon.
And the excerpt? More please! *G*

  22. Tempest Knight says:

Love the excerpt! :) Now get some rest, chica. You’re no good without your beauty sleep. :D

  23. Suzanne says:

That’s a LOT going on! But hey, the excerpt looks GREAT!!!
