The Wild Things

July 9, 2008 | Filed under: Stuff

First up, the Wild Thing in my house, taking a break from terrorizing spiders to sprawl on my bed in a rare moment of stillness:

And then! The other wild things in the woods. I caught a blur of something, or more correctly, Middle caught a blur of something, and like the good daughter she is, came screaming for me to get my camera “QUICK!”

I never hesitate when she says this, though trust me, there have been times when I should have. But that’s another story involving a strange car in the woods with steamed windows and someone bumping uglies, and we won’t go there. Anyway, I went running and was rewarded by . . .

A deer, a deer! Oh, so pretty! Wait Ms. Beautiful Deer, please wait! We want to pet you . . . Hey, where are you going–

Aw, well. She was in a hurry. I don’t think we had the kind of cookies she prefers . . .

P.S. Barbara Vey’s Publisher’s Weekly blog has a snippet on SUPERB AND SEXY today if you scroll down a bit . . . go peek here and feel free to chime in! (note: if you do, for some reason you can’t use the word SEXY in the comments, it’ll think you’re spam . . .)

Oh how pretty. Yesterday At work there was a whole bunch of geese strolling through the parking lot. Must have been 30 or more. Just taking there good old time getting across the road.

  2. Stacy ~ says:

Oh Ms. Deer looks so sweet. I remember those days of seeing deer and other wild creatures.

We have a pond at work with swans and ducks and cute, cute ducklings. They are such characters, those babies, little show-offs. I go walking at lunchtime and watch them play.

  3. Sonya says:

Yay! For once it wasn’t a bear and you didn’t have to run in the opposite direction like your rear end was on fire!

Loving Sam and Sara’s story and Flashback has already shipped. Can’t wait!

  4. Dru says:

I love seeing deer in their natural habitat.

  5. Liza says:

We have a couple of ducks that like to walk around where I work. They actually live down the street at a hotel, but will walk up the street, in traffic to sit in our parking lot. They really love it when we bring in bread or crackers.

  6. Treasia Stepp says:

    Aww I just love deer.

  7. Amy says:

Oh, look! It’s NOT A BEAR!

Deer are so cute. Until they eat your garden.

    Just sayin’.

LOL on “sexy” turning you into comment spam. How is that fair?

  8. Susan says:

The deer that visit us like to eat our shrubs and flowers. :fryingpan:

  9. Ashley says:

Cute pics, I still haven’t figured out how my husband can shoot Bambi’s mom.

  10. Karin says:

I love the pictures, Jill, especially the top one. Kitties at rest are so cute.

  11. Allie says:

Thank goodness it is not a big animal with huge teeth this time. ;)

Your kitty is such a cutie. :)

  12. Donna M says:

So pretty! Glad it was a deer. When I visit my brother in Oregon it is always possible to see deer, racoons, maybe an elk. Love seeing those creatures in their natural habitat. At night you can hear coyotes but I’ve never seen any of them!
Sleeping kitties are like sleeping babies & puppies so adorable.

  13. Suzanne says:

What a pretty deer! Great photos, too!!

  14. Brandy says:

An actual animal you WANTED to see in your yard! *G*

  15. limecello says:

Awe- I’m impressed you caught that on film! Also - did you catch the special on… abc? nbc? One of the network channels about this guy that lives with bears… I thought of you.

  16. april says:

Aw, the kitty is so adorable. She still looks kitten-y while she sleeps.

Nature kind of creeps me out, but the deer is pretty. I know they used to eat the rosebushes at our old house (allegedly, we never really caught one in the act). That plus my mom’s brown thumb… those roses never had a chance.

  17. Kris says:

    Great pics.
I finished Superb and Sexy yesterday and loved it. I hope to blog about it soon.

  18. Cryna says:

Kitty looks so peaceful and serene….. and I just love the picture of Ms. Deer. You are so lucky to have so much wildlife around.
