Tuesday’s Tidbits

July 8, 2008 | Filed under: Stuff

First up, I’ve been remiss in reminding you I have that daily online read over at the Harlequin site. A chapter a day for a month, and I think we’re about halfway through at this point. Warning though, read it (here) with a grain of salt, because apparently people are NOT liking my heroine and are NOT afraid to say so on the discussion board. Whew, those people are vocal! I almost went on there to gently remind them that this is just a silly little story, please don’t read too much into it, but then I had a cookie and decided to keep my mouth shut. And to not go back and look at the discussion again or I’d need more cookies . . .

In other news, Oldest is having a GREAT time at UCLA. Not missing me at all, sniff sniff. Here she is with the UCLA mascot, the Bruin:

So fierce, so . . . ready to leave me, lol! Aw, well. I’m almost over it. A couple more cases of cookies should do it. It’s a good thing it’s shorts season because I have these really great draw string shorts, and I can’t tell if I’m getting fat . . .

Oh! And today is the day Youngest gets her braces off. My goodness is she excited. She’s stockpiled all sorts of goodies for this grand event including all the things she hasn’t had in two years; caramel, soda, popcorn . . . Sounds like there’s probably a junk food party in my immediate future, doesn’t it? The things I do for my kids, including sacrificing my girly figure. Oh well, I do it in love, and we all know a mom’s job is never done . . .

    Jill,
Junk food party sounds good to me. I like Sam & Sara, don’t listen to the haters, there are a lot more fans out there than haters, if they don’t like it they don’t need to read it. Everybody who reads your blog knows you’re talented. Have a great day!

  2. Judy F says:

I am with Melanie there. I love Sam and Sara’s story. Should I send my attack Cat after them there haters.

    Great picture of oldest.

    Enjoy your snacks.

  3. Stacy ~ says:

Yeah ignore the haters. It’s all jealousy, don’t you know Jill? You have a ton of fans who love you and your work, ignore the rest (I know, easier said than done). We’ll always be here cheering you on, demanding you write faster, faster, faster! Btw, when is your next release coming out???

Ah, the joys of junkfood. Sounds like a fun time.

That bear reminds me of your backyard, Jill.

  4. Daphne says:

 Same here. I like your stories, I like coming visiting your website, reading your blog and the comments here. I didn’t like reading those on the harlequin website.
So keep going because I like your books!
Have a good day and enjoy your cookies! :hyper:

A French addicted to your books!

  5. Sonya says:

I love Sam and Sara as well. Just remember, it takes all kinds. Don’t give those folks another thought.

Glad to hear Oldest is having fun. And congratulations to Youngest!

    Heading over for today’s chapter…

  6. Patty L. says:

My son has a pack of gum waiting for removal day. I keep telling him that the gum will go bad, before he’s finished with the braces, but he’s holding steady.

Oldest looks happy. You raised a good girl, you should be proud that she is confident enough to make it on her own. You will always be there for her to fall back on and she knows it.

  7. abby says:

Yeah, like the others said, just ignore the haters. Take it from me. I’m enjoying your story! I check back every weekday to see the new update! That’s how much I love it!

And that picture of the oldest is so cute! And congrats to youngest!

  8. Liza says:

I’m enjoying Sam and Sara’s story. I do save up a few days at a time to read, so it is more like reading a book.

Oldest looks like she is having a great time. I loved getting my braces off. I could finally eat popcorn and I think I stocked up on junk too. Sounds like a great day for a junkfood party!

  9. Christina says:

I think they must like it, b/c they keep going back to read it. I like the story. It is hard to read one chapter a day, but that is for selfish reasons.

I bet those same pwople will be checking out your other books.

I remember getting my braces off and attacking popcorn, and gum and hard candy. good times.

  10. Devon Ellington says:

Some people need to get lives. But, because they’re too chicken to do so, they have to try to punish those of us who do.

Your work’s great, don’t let the energy vampires get you down.

    Here’s another cookie.

    Love you!

  11. Ashley says:

I actually think it’s nice to see the woman in charge for once!!! I had to stop reading the comments on the site because they were getting too irritating, I mean did they expect to not read about sex in a Blaze??? The entire book is not gonna be them having a conversation about why she left, sometimes it just takes more than words people!!
Great pic of Oldest, she misses you bunches, I’m sure!!
Congrats! to Youngest, I remember getting my braces off, it was definately a day worthy of a celebration!!!
Have fun and don’t party too hard! I’m off to read the next chapter!!!!!

  12. Amy says:

I love that Bruin. I remember the first time my parents took me to campus when I was little….

Congrats to Youngest! Mine are just about to start braces….

  13. Ang. says:

Don’t bother about those nit pickers..unreal. I actually shouted at my computer “Come on people..it is a short online read”. UGH. I personally like the story, the strong female, and all your books. Speaking of which I should be getting Flashback any day now.. :bananadance:

Oldest looks right at home near that bear..could it be because you have many by your own house..

I feel for youngest. The day I got my braces off I had a pack of gum in my purse and chewed a piece on the way out the door. (I was also 31 and 7 months pregnant at the time). :rotfl:

  14. Angie-la says:

LOL :rotfl: at the comments on the HQ discussion board!
It is a story people. You remember fiction, right??? Just read it and take it for what it is …a story meant to entertain, not a social commentary on the state of the male/female relationship dynamics!!
I am enjoying it. And I like both characters.

I feel for you Jill on the whole oldest leaving home thing. Lucky for me, my older son decided to work a year and has chosen to attend school close to home so he can commute to campus from home.
Now the younger son is determined to attend UGA. Which is only a car trip away, but definately not within daily commuting distance! But we still have 2 years to go before we have to worry about that.

  15. Allie says:

I know just how Youngest feels. I wore braces for 2 1/2 years and WOW was it great to get them off!!

  16. Suzanne says:

Oldest is so adorable! She’ll do great. She’s so spunky! :) A junk food party sounds wonderful!

  17. Donna M says:

Love the picture of Oldest with the UCLA Bear! Now that bear is much safer than the ones that visit your garbage!! I’m glad she is having a good time.
Youngest must be jumping for joy! :bananadance: What a good Mom you are to share her junk food party!!
Those people commenting on your online story at eHarlequin are a bit to intense for a romantic fiction!! You notice that I keep reminding them it is only a story & fiction!! I’m not letting them get away with bashing your work!! If they don’t like it why do they keep reading? Anyway, I’m off to read today’s chapter & check the discussion!!

  18. Brandy says:

Oldest looks like she’s enjoying her orientation. I’m sure she misses you, she sent pictures after all. *G*

I never had braces, but hubs did and ate all the stuff he wasn’t supposed to with braces. Hope your daughter has a blast with all her junk food, maybe she’ll share? *G*

Have a good day and don’t let those on the discussion board get you down, WE know and love your books!

  19. Susan says:

I’m loving Sam and Sara’s story.

Enjoy the junk food party with Youngest! It sounds like she has quite a selection.

Oldest looks like she is having a wonderful time.

  20. Karin says:

I’m enjoying your online read, Jill. Thanks for posting it. :)

I remember the day I got my braces off. I was so excited…until they glued a retainer on the backs of my front bottom teeth. There were still foods that were off limits to me because of it. I only had to wait a year and a half for a car accident subsequent softball to the face to pop off that retainer. *sigh*

  21. Nina says:

There will always be people that doesn’t like other people’s works. Usually because they know they cannot do it themselves and are therefore jealous.

Best to keep mouth shut. Cookie will fall out if mouth is open. Not good abusing cookies like that. They are afraid of heights so to not stress cookie, keep mouth closed while eating it.

  22. limecello says:

LOL Jill - yes, the sacrifices you have to make. Caramel… popcorn… mmm caramel popcorn

  23. Bailey Stewart says:

I haven’t read it yet. That’s right, you read it right here - I.haven’t.read.it.yet. Why? Because I refuse to read a chapter at a time and then wait all weekend for the next piece. So I dutifully print out the chapter every morning, and when the book is finished I shall sit down and savor it. And I will too. ‘Cuz you wrote it. And I lubbs ya.

  24. Cryna says:

Jill, I am really liking Sara and Sam. I have been also copying each chapter into a word document, so I can print it out and reread it all at once, and put it in a sleeve and file with the series. Yeah, I know pathetic I am. As for the haters over at HQN there are those that never have anything nice to say, and get right know it all on you if you disagree, so I would say ignore them - remember they are just a very small segment of everyone who reads it. We all know what a great writer you are and series this is. Sheesh if it was that bad why do they keep coming back to read somehing they dislike…….

Loved the pcture of oldest on campus. Great that she is having such a good time.

Congratulations to youngest on the braces off and the junk fest that you and her can share. Yup, sacrifices that a Mom makes. You rock!!

  25. Sarah says:

I love the online read, too! Love the characters, lots of fun.
I’m stunned by the posters over there… I personally don’t care if they “talk first” - let’s get those clothes off that man… oh, you’re soaking wet, honey, here, let me help… ;)

  26. Jill says:

I’m back from the all day run around of braces removal, wait for retainers . . . but! Youngest looks great.

We’re about to have our junk food party.

Thanks everybody, for the kind words on the online read, I needed that, lol!
