The woods, sans pig this time
May 29, 2008 | Filed under: Stuff

So I braved the woods again after the pig incident. It was a gorgeous day, and I had my iPod blaring Pink’s totally inappropriate and wonderful U + Ur Hand, and I was singing along at the top of my lungs when it happened.
A guy in a Jeep came right up behind me and honked.
Yes. I apparently learn nothing from my mistakes, and I’d had the music up too loud and couldn’t hear him and he was all pissy about it. So I moved out of his way with an apologetic smile and he stopped to yell at me. “If you didn’t have those #!#@# earplugs in, you’d have heard me, next time I’m going to run you @#$@# over.”
Gee, thank you for holding back what you really feel. As for me, I felt pretty darn stupid. But then about a 1/4 mile later I found this sign and felt all righteous again.

Take that, Jeep Man, cars NOT recommended. You might run into clueless hikers . . . Anyway, I started to enjoy myself, and took a smaller trail, really narrow. Single file. No cars allowed. And I cranked up the music again . . .

Check out that pretty moss . . . and then I realized. It had gotten cold. I looked up. Blue skies? Gone. Sun? Gone. Thunderstorm? ON TOP OF ME!

I executed an about face just as the rain began to fall. The thunder storms are really cool here, stark and gorgeous and SCARY, so I was hustling when I passed this, a poor tree hit by one of those lightning bolts that were getting close:

Gulp.
I am not too proud to say I ran all the way back, and I do realize I say that sentence a lot, lol, but the good news is that I didn’t see nary a pig or bear . . .

Char-broiled Jill is not on the menu, so watch your back, sister. Glad you survived to live out your wild adventures for another day. Let’s keep it that way, ‘k?

Yikes. I got caught in a summer storm in the Montana mountains once. Then it changed from rain to snow. Wild. Oh, and that charming Jeep guy? He must be from here. :loser:

I love my iPod but have to say, when I’m walking in the woods I want to be hearing…animals, people, weather – for safety – wind in the pines for enjoyment…
I agree with Jeep guy…maybe he is from Montana

Man oh man what a view. And your life is never dull. No wonder you can write so well and often!

It’s never a dull moment in the woods. I love it. Glad you made it safely home. Was Ashes with you?

Glad you made it home safely. Sounds like Jeep guy and the guy behind me this morning are from the same school of driving. I was supposed to run the red light so he could go on and turn left. He didn’t yell, that I could hear, but he did honk his horn.

Yeah that Jeep guy…what an ass, you should’ve given him a certain finger!!
Posted on May 29th, 2008 at 6:41 amAnd Pink is awesome isn’t she, sounds like your iPod is loaded with alot of the same stuff mine is!
Glad you made it home okay, we don’t want char-grilled Jill!

I am starting to think you are in really good shape what with all this running home.
No wonder you eat so many cookies. If you didn’t eat them, you’d have no energy for all this activity.
Posted on May 29th, 2008 at 8:09 amJill says:
Allie, I’m guessing I’m eating too many cookies. Or not running from enough wild animals . . .

Wow, nature seems to have it out for you, Jill. First bears and pigs and now thunderstorms. Maybe Judy’s right about you needing some time indoors for a while. lol
As for the guy in the Jeep, well, that’s just mean. I mean, yeah, it might’ve been annoying, but no reason to be THAT hostile about it.

You do get a lot of “running” in it seems :rotfl:

None of my bookstores have Superb and Sexy. I did get one to order it today. GRRR. Plus, I fell on the stairs. I would say down the stairs, but I had a death grip on the railing. So, I pulled something and now I’m all ouchy and, clearly, whiny. So, I had to buy an outrageously overpriced cupcake at this specialty bakery that just opened in Virginia (the landmark bakery is in D.C.) Chocolate and peanut butter always heals what hurts. It’s no cookie, but a cookie wouldn’t do it for me.
As for bears, pigs, and drivers (oh, my!), that’s why I don’t walk or exercise. Of course, I live in the city so it’s more that I want to run down tourists and throw things at political yuppies.

If you ever get stuck for a story you can always use one of your adventures as a starting point! As for the jerk in the jeep lets hope karma came along and bit him in the ass.

I just linked to you from Dooce and her Canadian haters.
And I’m glad I did. This was really entertaining…people can be so rude though! Like really, who do you think you are that you can just yell at someone like that!?! Love your blog!

I think that the man in the jeep is a :loser: Glad you got home without being injured, and having any further run-ins with animals.

Waving a hand at the new faces, love to see you all here!
Oh and later, I heard that some idiot got stuck up in the woods in his Jeep with all the mud from the rains. I don’t know if it was the same one, but I like to think it might have been . . .

its karma JIll for the jeep guy

Jeep guy may have been rude but his advice to remove the ear plugs and LISTEN might save your life someday. Cars (and oh, a Jeep is NOT a car) are the least of your worries.
It is incredibly dangerous to walk in the mountains, in areas of bear, mountain lion, coyote – and even with a dog…
Talk to your local Fish and Wildlife, or hiking orgs…I know this was meant to be a light and funny, but it has been worrying at me all day. I walk in grizzly and mountain lion habitat – I have educated myself on how to do that to be as safe as possible and still enjoy this wondrous place. And a dog or dogs are not adequate warning or protection…exactly who runs faster, you or they…
Posted on May 29th, 2008 at 3:42 pmJill says:
Ann, you are right, of course. I really should be paying more attention. Oh and we don’t have grizzly bears here, they’re black bears, and they are extremely shy and usually run faster from me than I can run from them.
Thank you for the warning!

Seriously! I need to move to an area with wild animals so I get more exercise. The desert chipmunks just aren’t getting it done for me.
And take that snotty Jeep driver guy. Karma comes in the form of mud holes. HA! Ya aught to know better than to mess with rebellious P!nk fans.
Just started Strong & Sexy and CAN’T. PUT. IT. DOWN! This clumsy, animal-loving, veterinary geek so relates to Dani! And what a nice respite from text books and research papers! Thanks Jill for what you do. You keep me sane.
