Update:
I had so much fun reading all the comments and remembering all the great movies I’ve seen. I couldn’t pick the winners myself so www.random.com helped me out. Jackie Colt and Roxann drew the winning numbers, so congrats there! Email me with your snail mail and a few books choices . . .
Original Post:
First of all, I forgot to say HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY to all of you, even if your kid is of the four-legged variety, or you’re a penis-carrying human and therefore not quite technically eligible for motherhood. We had a DESPERATELY needed low-key weekend. Yesterday Alpha Man took me out to breakfast and then later bbq’d burgers for dinner, which was right up my alley. Please. Red meat and cheese? My two favorite food groups. Oh, and the Chips Ahoy for dessert was PERFECT. My sweats are tight but it was perfect.
Anyway, it was a movie weekend. We saw WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS in the theater, and then the next day caught TWENTY-SEVEN DRESSES and JUNO on DVD. And then last night we caught one of my old time favorite movies ever, ROMANCING THE STONE.
Basically, I’ve swamped myself in romantic comedies. I love all movies, but do have to admit to a soft spot for the romantic comedy. Maybe because it’s my favorite genre to write, or maybe because I’m a hopeless romantic I-Love-Lucy style. (See, oh, just about any blog entry to understand why)
In any case, I have a point, and yes, I’m getting to it. It’s a question of the day type of post today, and I’ll be drawing a few names randomly to win a book from my backlist, so here goes. What’s your favorite romantic comedy? Come on, share. Inquiring minds want — need — to know!

Dee Thompson says:
My favorite romantic comedy is called The Tao of Steve. It’s a little indie film few people saw about an overweight,part-time kindergarten teacher who attracts women like flies to honey. He has a tried and true recipe for getting women, which is extraordinary because he’s so unappealing in most ways. He of course falls in love and becomes a different person. It’s very funny with a lot of unexpected laughs.

SPOILER - SPOILER - SPOILER - I wanted to ask - anyone watch Suvivor and what did you think if you did?
Can’t figure out why Parvati won over Amanda. I think she is a phony. Don’t know why Erik changed his mind between his questions to the final two and the vote.

Happy Day after mothers day.
I can’t think of a fav romantic comedy. Brain is not working yet.
Pat I was shocked at Survivor. Amanda deserved to win. At least she got Ozzy. I was shocked how some of the people went after Amanda. Sour Grapes.

Glad you had a good Mother’s Day! We were incredibly lazy and didn’t do much - took my mom to City Barbeque for dinner - very casual and comfortable!
Miss Congeniality and While You Were Sleeping are favorites of mine. My absolute movies are The American President and Love Actually, but they’re not especially comedic.
Have a great day! (don’t enter me in the contest)

Oh gosh, this being my favorite genre too, where do I begin? I have a gazillion on my shelf.
OK, let’s say, P.S. I Love You. Liked the recent Made of Honor too. McDreamy in a kilt was just too funny!!
Survivor threw me too. Amanda mastered competition. Parvarti just mastered lying and seductive decieving. I agree with Judy, Amanda is still the winner. She got Ozzy. Was that not the sweetest confession of love?! Swoon.

Gosh I have so many of them it’s hard to narrow it down to only one. Pretty Woman, Something to talk about, How to lose a guy in 10 days, Under the Tuscan Sun, Shall we dance, laws of attraction, Practical Magic and so many more.

I LOVE romantic comedies.
My very favorite!!
I have to add that I am VERY lucky–my husband will sometimes watch these movies with me!! And he hardly fusses at all!
Especially if I bribe him with homemade pizza.

I hope everyone had a great Mother’s Day. Mine was really good.I always enjoy watching “Sixteen Candles” It is so funny and sweet. “Overboard” is good and “American President” is funny but not romantic in my opinion. I also like “Romancing the Stone” It has it all, comedy, romance and adventure. Have a great day and hugs to all.

The Wedding Date. Watched it twice back to back on a plane trip home from Germany. Even though I had other choices of movies to watch on that ride home, I just wanted to see it again right after the first time. Then, when I got home to the San Diego, went right out and bought it on DVD!
Posted on May 12th, 2008 at 8:57 amKim A. says:
I agree with Overboard and Under the Tuscan Sun as well.
I also really enjoyed America’s Sweethearts (there’s John Cusack)and Two Weeks’ Notice (Hugh Grant and Sandra Bullock).
Many others too! My DVD shelves are nothing but chick flicks.
Not true comedies, but romantic movies just the same: Persuasion (with Amanda Root and Ciaran Hinds and also the more recent Masterpiece Theatre version), Jane Eyre in its various incarnations (recent one is the best I’ve seen, even beats the 1983 one with Timothy Dalton, which followed the book almost to the letter), Sense and Sensibility (Emma Thompson’s version, have yet to see the more recent one), Pride & Prejudice…Colin Firth…Sigh…

Hands down for me… Something’s Gotta Give with Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson. I could watch it back to back for a weekend! The bit where she is crying over him (in the shower, first thing when she wakes up, on the beach, etc.) makes me laugh. Probably because so many, including myself have been there and it’s so refreshing to see a comic spin on it. Great story overall.

While I love most of the movies above, one of my faves not yet mentioned is SPEECHLESS with Geena Davis and Michael Keaton — quite appropriate as we head into the next general election, too.

After that I follow up with “Pretty Woman”, “Miss Congeniality”, and “Runaway Bride”.

I have a love/hate relationship with romantic comedies. I need them to be witty and smart and not have stupid characters. I realize this is a subjective thing though. My favorite is When Harry Met Sally though I really love One Fine Day and The Holiday. It all depends on my mood.
Last weekend, Husband took me to see Baby Mama. I wanted to see Harold & Kumar, but traffic made us miss the movie so we saw Baby Mama instead. We have such high brow movie tastes.
This is also huge because the boy hates going to the movies or leaving the house. This is the first movie we’ve seen this year (though we did see Juno the last week in December).
Then, yesterday, I got to celebrate my first official Mother’s Day (the first with a baby outside of the body as I like to say). It was a nice one. I did get red meat but no cheese.
Happy Mother’s Day to all!

Happy Mother’s day Jill and ladies!
My mother passed away 2 years ago, so what i did was call some of her sisters, and wished them Happy Mother’s day. Tomorrow is going to be a little tough, ’cause it would have been my mom’s b’day. So I will call my brother who lives near Montreal to see how he is doing. We email each other almost everyday, but nothing beats calling, and hearing each others voices.
As for my favorite Romantic comedy, it’s Notting Hill with Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts, and my Best Friend’s Wedding.
