Channeling I-Love-Lucy

May 9, 2008 | Filed under: Stuff

At least once a week I drive by a truck that I think is Alpha Man’s and I wave. When he doesn’t wave back, I realize.

Wrong truck.

So the next time I see it, I’m hesitant to wave, but then I’m sure it’s him and I do anyway, and . . .

It’s not him.

This has been going on for several years now. I’m sure some guy in a truck similar to Alpha Man’s is wondering who the hell the strange lady in town is, the one that always waves to him.

Cut to the grocery store the other night. Alpha Man and I are in the ice-cream aisle arguing over dessert. He wants Rocky Road and I want Strawberry. This guy walks by and Alpha Man starts talking to him. Clearly they know each other. Alpha Man turns to introduce us and the guy grins familiarly.

Crap. I hate it when I know someone and I’ve forgotten who they are. “I’m sorry,” I start, already embarrassed I can’t remember him. “Do I know you?”

“Well, you think you do anyway. You’ve been waving to me for three years now.”

How funny! I do the same thing by waving at one of our neighbors - only it isn’t our neighbor - ever! Someone in our subdivision has to be wondering who the hell I am!

  4. Pat L. says:

In my hometown, everyone waves as they drive by each other. I never know who is waving at me, but I always wave back.

  6. Treasia Stepp says:

    How funny!

  7. Ashley says:

That is so funny, and I do the same thing with the guys I work with, our work trucks are all white, so I just wave at every white truck I pass, if I know them good, if not, I’m just being extremely friendly to strangers, either way, it’s all good!!!

  8. Mental P Mama says:

    Now that is funny. :rotfl:

  9. Sonya says:

  13. Jill says:

I knew it would happen eventually . . . I was just hoping it wouldn’t happen in front of Alpha Man, who thinks it’s hysterical.

  14. Devon Ellington says:

Talk about karma! ;) In the best possible way.

Hope you wound up buying both kinds of ice cream.

  18. wendy says:

Ah, Jill, you’re too awesome. :D

  19. Donna M says:

You are not alone! I’ve often waved & then realized it wasn’t the person I thought! So, I just shrug & go on my way!! What is the proper etiquette for waving at the ex?!! We lived in a small town & since I tend to be friendly I wave at a lot of people. After we split up I found myself waving at him out of habit but then realized he wasn’t someone I wanted to be friendly with!!!

Everyone have a Happy Mother’s Day. My daughter & grandson that live nearby decided we should go to San Francisco tomorrow to go to the DeYoung Museum. They are both off work so that will be our Mother’s Day outing. I’m looking forward to the day. Weather should be great, in the low 70’s, I think!

  20. Brandy says:

Well of course it was going to happen in front of Alpha Man. *G*

    Shops of Channeling I-Love-Lucy…

shops about alpha waves : I?m sure some guy in a truck similar to Alpha Man?s is wondering who the hell the strange lady in town is, the one that always waves to him. Cut to the grocery store the other night. Alpha Man and I are in the ice-cream aisle …

  24. Cryna says:

Jill, he obviously knew who you were, and has been chuckling over your waving at him. The law of averages of finding out who he was, would be in favour of it being in front of Alpha man. It is really funny and had me chuckling.

Hope that you have a great Mother’s Day weekend.

  25. Suzanne says:

Well tell him you’re just Very friendly, LOL!

  26. jean says:

    Very funny.

  27. Cindy says:
