State Championships

February 23, 2008 | Filed under: Stuff

You’ll have to excuse the crappy cell phone pics but see this motley crew?

This is our varsity basketball team here in town. See the center girl in grey? That’s Middle on her left and Oldest on her right. In my opinion, this is the cutest, sweetest, bestest team in the whole state.

AND for the first time, they can prove it. Last week they went into zones ranked #4 for the northern part of our state and came out ranked #2.

Number 2!!!

So today we’re at the STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS trying to get to #1. In the WHOLE STATE. I’m just besides myself and over the moon with pride. Alpha Man (who moonlights as the high school assistant coach) is pretty much in a state of bliss. He’s got his basketball tie on and is ready to rock and roll.

Here a look at my favorite players, after winning zones last week:

And here is the whole family at Senior Farewell, sniff sniff. Not a dry eye in the house that night …

And yes, I’m the shortest person in my house. Want to make something of it? Do ya? Bring it on!

Anyway, think of us today, fighting the big battle. Middle had 21 points in the second to last game, which was amazing. In yesterday’s game she had 18 points, 14 of which she had in our DOUBLE OVERTIME, and if you don’t think I got a whole new bunch of gray hair at THAT game, please think again.

Here’s the winning pic of Middle and Oldest, taken immediately after the buzzer as they both realize they’re going to the Final Game of the State Championship:

Keep your fingers crossed and wish us luck!

UPDATE:
Well . . . the final game wasn’t pretty. We gave it a valiant effort but let’s just say we ended up in second place. But I’ll tell you what, #2 in the entire state? Not too shabby! Both Oldest and Middle did great. Oldest is sad, her basketball career is now over. Middle was the high scorer for both games in the finals, and is plastered all over the newspapers, and she is excited for the future seasons to come. Hugs to them both and the whole team for an amazing season!!!
