The Joy Of Cleaning

October 15, 2007 | Filed under: Stuff

You know it’s time to clean your room when the pile of CLEAN clothes that you can’t put away because your drawers are too messy fall over onto the floor. I am so disorganized … Anyway, as I was straightening up, I found out I have a nightstand. It’s a very useful surface, too! Now that I’ve put away all the crap, I can even see it, and enjoy the things on it, which are a phone, a pretty ceramic lamp I got eons ago at a garage sale, Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows (read it twice but still can’t bear to put it away), Chapstick, my small book light and a hair band. Because you never know when I’m going to feel the need to put up my hair in the middle of the night.

So here’s the question of the day. What’s on your night stand?

  1. Judy F says:

A lamp, a clock radio, kleenix, chapstick, a dried flower arrangement, some angels, a snowman coaster, maybe a book or two. LOL

  2. Stacy ~ says:

My clock radio, a supply of chocolate, a bottle of water, and lots and lots of books!

  3. Lishy says:

Does it count as a nightstand when it includes the stand, the windowsill, and the dresser? If it does, then there’s the alarm clock, ashtray (yes, I know it’s a horrid habit :yuck: ), a pretty knitted dresser-mat, lotsa books, and some dust…

  4. Laura says:

The clock radio, the phone (with the ringer turned off, same as my only other phone in the kitchen), a couple of magazines I haven’t read and a spiral notebook in case I wake up with a great idea I need to write down. No pen though.

All items above are covered heavily in dust, since I never use any of them…except the clock radio, alarm feature.

  5. Melanie says:

Let’s see… I have a lamp, a clock/CD alarm clock which plays my Justin Timberlake CD to wake me up…much to my husband’s dismay. Nothing like waking up to Sexy Back!

Hmm… Not sure what else. Do I have to go look? I think there might be a half finished soda I haven’t thrown away yet. No books though. I usually don’t read in bed.

  6. Heather Harper says:

    Too much crap.

4 stuffed penguins, 1 ceramic penguin, 1 penguin snow globe, 1 Asian girl CPK, 1 lamp, a big stack of (currently 8) books, a small stained-glass trinket box, coasters, bottle of water that is cat proof, a squishy wizard from RWA Nats, a black Webkinz cat, a few of my littlest one’s toys, and some trash.

Are you still my friend now?

  7. Heather Harper says:

Ha. That second smiley face was supposed ot be an 8.

  8. Dru says:

Not much, just a radio/alarm clock, a box of tissues, and remote control.

  9. Elizabeth K says:

Lamp, clock, drink coaster, book thong, travel-sized box of q-tips, kleenex, stack of books to be read, and the most important thingy of all: my electric blanket controller!

  10. kris says:

ym nightstand is actually a small bookshelf. But on top of it I have a reading lamp, my current book, empty glass of water, small box of hair accessories, a large candle that i got somewhere and my alarm clock.

  11. Laurie says:

My nightstand is a little crowded w/a phone, alarm clock, lamp, tissues, about a dozen books, three tubs of body butter, a small basket w/pens, a sticky pad, body powder, Breathe Right strips and a booklight.

  12. Carolyn A. says:

My nightstand has my booklight, my iPod shuffle, a coaster for my cup of water at night, framed photos of my family, chapstick, a couple of catch-alls with safety pins, buttons, doodads, etc.(you never know when you’ll need one of those), a Precious Moments music box my Mom gave me when my son was born, and a bone china unicorn my sister bought for me when she went to England years ago. Needless to say I don’t like dusting it.

  13. Liza says:

I have a lamp, my ipod docking clock, my old alarm clock, a drink coaster, hair bands(I do put my hair up in the middle of the night), my ipod, chapstick, and 2 books. I also have a shelf under my bedside table that has even more books.

  14. Kristen says:

A lamp I can’t use because it sets off Queen B’s fetish for dots.
Mystery socks looking for their mates.
A pair of scissors for Queen B’s snarls/matts and omg, what did you squirrel away in your coat this time moments.
    A box with some baubles.
And if there’s anything else, I’d have to get an archaeological team to excavate. ;)

Another thing on my long list of things to do– get organized. :rotfl:

  15. Serena says:

 wow, didn’t realize … ok, box of Kleenex, 8 books in various stages of being read (Including HP 6 which I was going to re read before #7 came out.) about 15 hair ties, I take em off and leave em there then go searching. 3 pieces of wood (went to a Karate open house and broke it with my foot) A lamp, Marvin the Martian stuffed animal, a dryer sheet (hmmm) and a cigar box purse, OH and a hand knitted washcloth OzKnitter made me that I think is too pretty to actually use.

    Wow, seriously need to clean.

  16. Patty L. says:

Alarm clock, lamp, telephone, books, lotion, chapstick, books and my reading glasses. BTW everything has a decent layer of dust on it. I just didn’t everyone else to feel bad, apparently our rooms are the last place we clean. LOL

  17. Alice Audrey says:

My books are all under the bed, except for whichever I was reading when the light went out. My alarm is covered in dust, which is really strange considering how many times I slap the snooze every morning. We won’t talk about what’s in the box.

  18. Wendy says:

Something for every one of my addictions: no less than 13 books (all balancing precariously), a lamp, pens, pencils, puzzle mag, the stereo/clock remote, the TV remote, and of course, emergency chocolate! Like most everyone else, everything but the books and chocolate are dusty too…

  19. Christa says:

the night stand on one side of the bed has a remote control, stuffed animals, a candle, a small container with an assortment of candle and key to nightstand(unless nightstand is locked then key is hidden. Other side has lamp, alarm clock, deoderant, body spray and book curently reading

  20. april says:

I have 3 candles, a photo from our first dance at our wedding, my clock/radio, my glasses and glasses case (though the glasses aren’t in the case). Does dust count? There may be a hair elastic. I recently cleaned it off except the dust. It’s a nightstand with drawers so most of the mess is INSIDE… except the dust.

  21. Cindy says:

    Let’s see…

Alarm clock, books, lamp and dust.

The only thing not dusty on there are the books and the snooze button on the clock. *snort*

  22. Bailey Stewart says:

I have two nightstands, one on each side of the bed. On one there’s a picture of my parents, 3 ceramic cats, alarm clock, phone, used tissues (the waste basket is on the other side of the bed) and a box of tissues. On the other side is three precarious piles of books, a hidden picture of my dad from WWII and a lamp.

  23. bonita says:

A lamp, a very old princess phone, a stack or six books including HP & the DH and a tin of Bert’s Bee Balm. Sometimes the TV remote and glasses. I’ve solved the dust problem–the nightstand is covered by an orphan place mat that escaped from the dining room. Therefore, the surface of the nightstand is never dusty(!) Pretty slick, eh?

  24. Heather says:

On my nightstand: Lamp, small alarm clock, cup of assorted pens, small note pad, double tower of books waiting to be read (at least as tall as the lamp).

  25. Kimberly H says:

One of my bookcases doubles as a nightstand. It has A lamp, a flashlight, a vase of dried flowers, various hair ties and claws, tissues, lotion, sticky notes, a library book I just finished, and my certificate for my first tandem skydive….
and thats just on the top shelf. lol

  26. Cryna says:

Clock radio/telephone, lamp, bottle of water, dream catcher, stuffed panda, all on one of the nightstands. The other one has a lamp, stack of books, nail clippers and flashlight.

  27. Gena says:

A tube of hand cream, alarm clock, Chapstick, a lamp and a clock. Boring stuff. On the hubby’s side is a fathers day card with Scooby Doo saying “you’re awesome.” I think he opens it daily just to hear it. There is also a plastic Tigger figurine and two Hot Wheels that I am NOT suppose to touch. Our daughter gave it all to him so I guess it has special meaning.

  28. Angie T says:

A small lamp, alarm clock, remote control, 3 different types of lip balm (I’m obsessed, ok??), one hardback and 2 paperback books (stacked on top of one another!), a pair of earrings, a coated rubberband, 2 hair clips, cuticle cream (Burt’s Bee..and it is awesome!) and hand and body lotion.

  29. Donna M says:

On my side of the bed a dresser doubles as a nightstand. The top of the dresser has dust, a large jewlery box, my alarm clock, a cordless phone w/answering machine, perfume, a ceramic coaster, deodorant, two watches that don’t work :!: , a silver half dollar that I won, other miscellaneous “stuff”!! On the other side of the bed is a nightstand with pictures of the grandkids, candles, a ceramic bunny, pictures of daughters & dust!!
Wow, glad I’m not the only one with dust!!!!
Oh yeah, my bed has a bookcase headboard & one my side of the bed that spot has all Jill Shalvis keeper books & dust!!!!! That is for the dust!!

  30. Ericka Scott says:

An alarm clock, my book light, a baby monitor, bottle of body lotion, a picture of my family…and dust (hanging head with shame…)

  31. jeanne says:

I actually had to go look lol. 5 books, flashlight, alarm clock, bookmarks, nightlight, lamp, tablet and pen, nosedrops, mist sprayer (for the cats lol)and at night I add a glass of water and my cell phone. The thing is, it’s the smallest nightstand you’ve ever seen. My husband has the large one and it only has an alarm clock, lamp and glass of water. :hissyfit:

  32. Liza says:

Totally forgot about my 4 remotes(tv, cable, dvd, fan), my glasses, and all the dust.

  33. Brandy says:

Books, a coaster for whatever drink I take to bed, a lamp, a small glass container for holding my chapstick and bookmarks and a Teddy Bear from Vermont Teddy Bear Factory that hubs gave me for Valentines Day, and a remote for the tv.

  34. Cynthia says:

Currently, I don’t have a nightstand. My room resembles piles of stuff that I need to find a home for, but am too overwhelmed with them to do anything with. Ugh!

It’s been so long since I’ve had the chance to drop by! Just wanted to tell you I’m reading “Trouble in Paradise” right now, and absolutely loving it!

  35. Anna Louise Lucia says:

Hmmm. Touch-lamp, chapstick, lavender essential oil, olbas oil, Evil Alarm Clock, notebook, broken bracelet, Christmas tissues.

I have a bookshelf for a nightstand – so my reading’s under that top shelf of… clutter.

  36. Lynn says:

A lamp, 12 books (all read, all favorites), two framed photos (both of my kids), a candle, and a bottle of sweet pea scented body lotion.

  37. JackieToo says:

Phone, caller ID, flashlight, TP (out of Kleenex  ), glass of water, nail file, little thingie to sit the water glass on, two phone books, and nine book books. I think that’s all.

  38. JackieToo says:

Oops! Forgot the eye drops. Need them while reading all those book books. :???:

  39. Brandi says:

what isn’t on my nightstand? between two kids, i have the world itself posted next to the bed. i have an arrangement of toy animals, chapstick, “Go, Diego, Go” DVD cases, baby lotion, a lamp and many other little accessories i would rather have elsewhere.

  40. Be a Good Daughter says:

    Sweet message.
I hope you’ll comment my blog..
    Ciao

  41. Alice Audrey says:

I said I wouldn’t say what was in the box, then I blogged about it. :blahblah: Someday I’ll learn to shut up.

  42. Kristi says:

Don’t have a night stand. It is just one more place I would clutter up. LOL.
