The Shalvis Chronicles

March 14, 2007 | Filed under: Stuff

UPDATE:
I was interrupted 9 times, which felt like A LOT until I read all your guesses, lol!!! Winners email me with your book choices and address!

I am behind. Overworked. Underpaid. The usual complaints. So I locked myself in my office with a sign that said KNOCK AT YOUR OWN RISK, AND ONLY IF THERE’S BLOOD AND GUTS SHOWING.

Today’s contest – guess how many times the sign was ignored and I was interrupted yesterday by the three children, husband, dog, and yes I’m serious, hamsters. I’ll draw names from the correct guesses for a choice of a book from my backlist.

  1. Judy F says:

maybe we need to get you a tazer like device attached to the door.

    I am guessing 15 times.

by the way since I am sick and lazy today how many pieces of candy/fudge did you eat from the other contest.

  2. Maureen says:

After seeing that sign my family would not be able to resist bothering me so I’m going to guess 20.

  3. Stacy ~ says:

I’m going to guess 11 times. Gosh, I hope it wasn’t that many!

  4. Elizabeth K says:

I’m guessing 40. Because I turned 40 today! (Great Scot!) And besides, it’s a nice round number.

Hope today is better for you!

  5. Stacey says:

It should have been a school day, I believe. Soooo…I’m going to guess 23 times.

Good luck. Hopefully, today will be better.

  6. Cheryl S. says:

My first thought was 8 although, if it was my family, that would be an awfully optimistic number.

  7. Bailey Stewart says:

    Happy Birthday Elizabeth! :bananadance:

I have more of your books in backstock than you do, so I’m not guessing. I just wanted to say – electrify the doorknob … :fryingpan:

  8. Marty says:

I’ll be cautious and keep it under ten time (although you did use the plural of ‘hamster’). Nine?

  9. Kris says:

I am going to guess 12 times. There are 6 beings on the list so that gives them two interruptions each.

  10. Barbara-Jo says:

Just to be different my guess is 16.

  11. Kathleen says:

My guess will be 12 times. Wow, I try to over think these questions too much..LOL!

  12. Patty L. says:

I guess 18. Don’t know why it just a guess.

  13. Devon Ellington says:

    Seventeen.

And I bet none of them offered cookies!

  14. Angie T says:

I’m going to say 9 times, because that is about my limit and after that objects and a few choice words, would be “accidentally” flying toward the offending person.

  15. Karen B says:

Hmmm. Based on 8 hours – 1x/hr X 4 peeps = 32 + 2x for dog and 1x for hamster = 35. Hope it wasn’t this much but am guessing that it was even more… Did anyone bring cookies or did you stock up first?

  16. Deb says:

    27

    at least.

I like the electrifying the doorhandle idea

Not enough to really fry them, just enough to harmlessly knock them out for an hour… :whip:

    Deb

  17. Kristi says:

    14 :)

  18. sharon says:

    12

  19. Suzanne says:

    10,985 times.

  20. Amy L. says:

    I’ll guess 17. :fryingpan:

  21. Wendy says:

I’m guessing 13 times and I’m going to look on the Home Depot site for something to electrify the doorknobs in my house. I like that idea!

  22. Carol says:

Thirteen times!!! I hope there was no BLOOD AND GUTS SHOWING!

  23. Cryna says:

With everyone thinking that they are probably the exception to the rule or sign……..I would guess probably 10 times.

  24. Susan says:

How this for a guess… to many times! :wall:

    Okay, I’ll say 16.

  25. Donna M says:

    I like Susan’s guess—to many times!! :fryingpan:

:bananadance: Happy Birthday, Elizabeth! Have a great day.

  26. RobynL says:

    14 times, yikes.

  27. kim h says:

    i say 10 times

  28. Ellen says:

24? Sorry about all the instrusions.

  29. Marcy says:

    I’ll guess 11 times. :fryingpan:

  30. Lis says:

22? And I’m curious about the hamsters lol

  31. Brandy says:

Hmmm, 2 others have already guessed my number, so I’ll say 15 times. I like the idea of electrifrying the doorknob.

  32. Alice Audrey says:

I have no hope of getting this right so I’m going for silly. I say you weren’t interrupted at all. In other word’s zero times.

Quite laughing already it wasn’t that funny.

    Alice

  33. Teresa W. says:

I’m going to go with 12. :hissyfit:

  34. Sue says:

    I’m going to guess 13

  35. cathy says:

Too funny. I will say 18 times.

  36. Joyce says:

II am going to say 25!

  37. Dru says:

    18

  38. catslady says:

I’m trying to find a number no one else said lol. How about unlucky 7.

  39. Shelli Stevens says:

21 times! I so know how that goes. I only write when everyone is asleep! :D

  40. Diana says:

    14 times.

  41. Sarah says:

    My guess… lucky number 7. :)

  42. Sandy J says:

    My guess 27 times!

  43. Michele L. says:

Your hamsters bothered you also? I am picturing in my mind that they rode in on your dog’s back to say,
“Excuse me, but I am being ignored here.”
    in a tiny squeaky voice.
Your dog is just so adorable that I wouldn’t be able to shut him out. Was his nose under the door trying to sniff you out?
Well, with all the comings and goings of a regular house, I am going to guess that with 3 kids, husband, dog, and hamsters bothering you, it was 19 times that they interfered with your concentration. LOL

  44. Jennifer K. says:

    How about 17?

  45. Bailey Stewart says:

Give away a book and they come out of the woodwork. :rotfl:

  46. Karen L. says:

I am going to guess 7 – probably too small but it was the first number that came to mind.

  47. Meretta says:

31 times. Am I right? Am I right? :hyper:

  48. Marie says:

    I’m gonna guess 29.

  49. Sue A. says:

    I’ll take 26.

  50. Carolyn A. says:

    I’m guessing lucky 13!

  51. Ericka Scott says:

My guess is 8, although I’m sure it was many more than that!

  52. Lee says:

    How about 18 times?

  53. Laura says:

I think it was too many times to count. (And the hamsters probably didn’t think you meant them.)

  54. KimW says:

I’m going to guess six times.

  55. ButterflyLane says:

Let’s see. I have 2 kids, a husband and a cat, and I get interrupted roughly 7 times an hour, so… add a kid, subtract a cat- add a dog and hamsters- divide by three for the sign… um… carry the four… I’m going to say 17 times.

  56. ButterflyLane says:

Oh, and Bailey’s right- even if I can’t think of a witty comment to leave I do stop by almost every day- but doggone it, contests just spark my commenting ability.

  57. julie says:

    14?
