It’s Definitely Monday…

May 8, 2006 | Filed under: Stuff

If you read my last blog entry here, then you know we have a new resident at the Shalvis abode. One with a wriggly nose, beady eyes, and a knack for making noises in the middle of the night.

Well the other morning I woke up tired and cranky because Micky had been particularly rambunctious for the past SIX HOURS. To add insult to injury, he smelled.

Bad.

So I went in and with bleary eyes, looked at him. He’s incredibly sweet and the kids love him but all I saw was him smirking at me. Little bastard had been keeping me up on purpose, I’d bet on it. Holding my nose, I took him in his cage outside with me where I proceeded to write on my laptop, and he proceeded to enjoy a sunflower seed. The next thing I know, I’m waking up with drool on my chin, and . . . bad mom that I am . . . Micky’s cage is opened and he’s GONE.

The little shit escaped. On my watch.

When the kids came home, they were devastated. I pretended to be, but I’ll tell you what. Slept like a baby last night . . .

This morning I was back outside with my laptop, and I’d have sworn I saw Micky racing across the top of the wood pile, grinning from ear to ear . . .

Ah Jill, the poor thing just wanted to be free – run wild through the hills.

  2. Stacey115 says:

    lol
    Tooo funny!

  3. Barbara-Jo says:

Couldn’t have happened to a nicer person!! (You, not the rat!)

  4. Melissa says:

Well, I was going to give you some pointers on how to keep him from stinkin’ but now it’s too late.

I’m bummed. Now I wanna read my old, torn up copy of BAD MOUSY.

He’s probably better off in the wild, anyway. Having pets such as mice and rats is hard because like I said before they usually only live 5 years. Better fled then dead.

  5. Peggy says:

Good riddance. Hate those little buggers. Had one in my wall next to my bed that kept me awake for three nights in a row, until we left mouse poison in the attic. Now I sleep so much nicer.

  6. Angie says:

That happened with me and a gerbil once. Only we found the gerbil.
See, these things just have a way of working themselves out. Now if *I * could only figure out how to fix it so the kids think the cockatiel opened its own cage……

  7. Sue says:

    :rotfl: You are too funny!

  8. Susan says:

My guess is you grined back!:rotfl:

  9. Kimberly Holt-Whitlock says:

    Jill,

What a shame, hehe. I’m sure he is much better off in the wood pile. Just pray he doesn’t find his way back into the house. The kids will probably never allow you to trap him the old fashioned way.

    Best,
    Kim

  10. Christa Runge says:

Wait til he hear the bear.

  11. eve says:

    Christa – :rotfl:

  12. Brandy says:

Um, am I the only one who has kids who knows whats coming next? GUILT TRIP. And a free pass to the kidlet because Mom “accidently” lost Micky?
On the other hand, the poor thing belonged outside anyway. He wouldn’t have lasted that long at my house (6 cats). Glad you finally got some sleep though!

  13. Jill says:

The guilt was very very heavy until I realized — no more mouse in the house.

  14. Kelley says:

Too funny. I would not want a mouse for a pet. I’d have been happy it escaped!

  15. Cece says:

    *looks around for Eve*

Born freeeeeeeeeee as free as the wind blowsssss as free as the grass growsssss as free as you and me!!!!! :guitar:

  16. ruby55 says:

I really don’t mind live mice as lonf as I don’t have to actually touch the things. I’m like that with most animals, especially ones that need cages. Sheesh, I even enjoyed watching mice free each other from traps until the full implications sank in. I wonder if Micky will move in with his/her? family once the weather gets colder again. That’s the reason I probably would have liked to keep an a on it–no msting.:hissyfit: That one winter we must have dumped out at least 4 dozen mice before we decided to let them die. I still wonder if I’ll meet them in some of my boxes. :yuck:

  17. Jayde says:

    Hmmm…Something smells… mousy.

Falling asleep. Good one. You’re totally innocent if you were unconscious at the time.

No, really; mice are notorious for escaping. When I was younger I had a friend who had pet mice in a cage, and it seemed like every time I was there, one of the little buggers had gotten loose. Let me tell you, my sleepovers there were not peaceful. I swear, the damn mouse was in the bed with me, I know it.

    -Jayde.

PS: I guess Ashes is happy.

  18. Marcy says:

Jill – You know he just went out to gather his family to move them all in with you, right? :rotfl:

  19. Jill says:

Ashes is so happy she’s been dancing down the hallways grinning. I swear.

But marcy just gave me nightmares!

  20. ruby55 says:

BTW, I was downstairs in the basement over the weekend. The smell almost bowled me over. I couldn’t get out fast enough. And there are no rats where there is such a stink?!?!?

I hope he gets one of his brothers to really clean up the place. I wouldn’t really want hime to do it because he’s due for heart surgery any day. But somebody has to get the smell out and it won’t be me. Seriously, I almost brought up and had to get out of there as fast as possible. I can just imagine trying to get that “fragrance” out of all my books and other things. :wall:

  21. judy f says:

    born free…..lol

  22. Pat says:

Sorry your little critter escaped. Not!

Your daughter is so pretty. Looks quite like my neice.

  23. Kimmy says:

I would say im sorry the critter escaped but I agree with you-good riddence! lol
I am guilty of falling asleep and a critter getting loose- I was supposed to be babysitting my friends hamster and I fell asleep and the critter got out. I raced around the house looking for it and finally found it under the bathroom sink trying to get in the wall… Probably should have left it there because it always made her room smell lovely… lol

  24. Donna M says:

Good plan Jill! No wonder you fell asleep, Micky kept you up all night!! I’m sure Micky is happy in the wood pile & will have many wonderful adventures in life!!!:rotfl:

  25. Donna M says:

Jill I hope you don’t mind the following!
For the month of May each time you go to the Breast Cancer website & click it counts as 2. Please visit every day & click for free mammograms for those that cannot afford them. All you do is go to: http://www.thebreastcancersite.com & click on the pink spot.
    Thanks,
    Donna M

  26. Gena says:

I hope there isn’t a Minnie living in the wood pile. The girls would love it, but I’m sure poor Jill wouldn’t.

  27. KIM H says:

    oh it is so cute.

  28. Lis says:

lol Sounds like the great escape! :rotfl:

  29. jeanne says:

I’m surprised such a little thing could smell that bad lol. Hope your daughter wasn’t too attached or you will never hear the end of it. Years from now – remember when mom purposely let Micky out of his cage:wink:

  30. K-K says:

Oh, that is funny. Jillm you always seem to make me laugh even with the worst case of PMS ever.

  31. Carol says:

I’m happy for you and Ashes! lol

  32. Gina says:

Haha! Hopefully he doesn’t become some lovely cats lunch! My cat is named Mikey. Close enough name.

  33. carly phillips says:

    You kill me.
    :rotfl:

  34. eve says:

Cece – :rotfl: You’re safe here – I would never torture Jill and the gang with the insane “Let’s sing the TV theme song” game. You, on the other hand …

  35. Dennie says:

I know it’s not right to laugh… :rotfl:

    you crack me up!

  36. Toni Anderson says:

Don’t worry, he’ll be back in the Fall!!

    Good move.

  37. Chris Keach says:

Oh, you’re bad! I just hope he doesn’t return with a bunch of “friends”!

  38. Angie says:

 Jill, you need to borrow a few of Suzanne M’s kittens!

  39. Danica says:

    Ah Jill…

  40. melanie says:

    Hey Jill,
Love your blog and your books:love: what kind of animal is Ashes?
